This league doesn't require 'attractive' football. Look at Ipswich for confirmation of that. It needs results no matter how you get them.
Sadly, that appears to be the case. Ipswich apparently have the lowest passing success rate in the division.
If you are given a bare 15 to work with, it can start well but soon as the months go by and the tactics need tweeking, you will start to pay the price. Players become frustrated, need a rest, this then can lead to friction between staff etc. I think BP is probably an excellent coach with an idea of the football and style he wants to implement. We saw that at the start of the season after his time with the squad in the summer, but the backing from his boss has been shit and its a joke that He's the man that's made out to be the clueless one. I don't see how a new man will make much difference as they will just encounter the same problems unless RD sorts his life out.
Exactly what I think about the situation, you can only introduce so much inexperienced youth products into a team to get the best out of them. Having to play slightly injured players to compete at a decent standard is going to have a backwards effect, but what could he do.
Confused by some of the comments on here asking for an English manager such as Sherwood as being the only way forward, why? Hasn't the brief successful reign of Riga taught us that it doesn't have to be British to be successful? Plenty of us were gutted Riga wasn't signed on for a longer contract. Before this slump and the injuries there were a fair few asking for Bob's contract to be extended as the quality of football was decent, why is a foreign manager going to be a bad appointment?
The comment about the football this season being the worst football for years is probably a fair comment if you started supporting Charlton last Saturday.
Not at all surprised at this news - in the last six or seven weeks we have failed to beat three of the bottom four at home. Rumours of training ground unrest are just rumours to me but I've seen our squad going backwards over the last two-three months after a fabulous start. I sympathise as it was high pressure but Peeters showed nothing when it came to turning this around to keep us mid-table. Throwing another coach on the fire seems harsh and four coaches in a year looks like a circus.... But it's far from it! We are in a better place than 12 months ago and tomorrow we can start afresh. If it was your last £500k would you give it Peeters or to a new coach? My choice is to give it to the coach who gives us the best chance of finishing top half this season and top six next season.
Yesterday, apart from Henderson and Buyens we had our first choice XI out there and I couldn't see where our next win was coming from.
As for the next head coach, it looks likely to be Riga or Luzon with Fraeye perhaps as part of the set up? My reading of his hint the other day.
Putting Fraeye in charge would be too risky in my opinion. Riga is safe with the fans and half the squad. Luzon did a good job at Liege last season but ultimately failed in their play-offs.
I can understand if people don't like this new approach or feel disconnected but I'll be at Watford now cheering the lads on. Virtually the same team as the home game last September and hopefully a performance to match as opposed to what we've endured these last couple of months.
It looks harsh for sure. But to me it looks like M.Duchatelet is looking for the fastest, cheapest way to the top! Far, far cheaper to burn the coach than it is to replace five players before their contracts are up. My concern is that we need a very good coach for the next 12-18 months, not someone with second tier experience from Belgium or wherever... Time to step up and give CAFC a head coach who can get the best out of our current squad plus whoever is added this month.
If there is any truth in him falling out with players + results being what they are then it is no surprise. It's sad but RD had to act to stop us falling into relagAtion zone.
As long as it's not another Belgium manager with zero experience I understand it.
It's not just our low points tally recently, it's the fact that we've looked like a car crash with boring tactics and dodgy body language. Why don't people want Luzon? He was the one who took Liege to the top if I'm not mistaking him for someone else? It was only the start to this season that he struggled with?
I went on record y'day as saying I wanted him to stay. For me the only reason he shouldn't stay was if he lost the confidence of the team. None of us know whether or not that is the case for sure.
The only crumb of positivity is that we've done it now, rather than later in the season. It might be the only plus point and give us a chance to get the new man in and change it.
Another thing I thought of watching the Brighton game.
At least we hopefully won't be relying on trying to bore the opposition to death anytime soon. Brighton, the away team would get the ball and instantly look to rub it forward. So many times we were in attacking positions and played it all the way to the back 4 who would play it all the way round.
Sometimes there is real merit in that, but instead we do it at 0-0 in a game we should win, and then don't look like attacking until we are losing.
That for me is tactics set down by the manager. That was piss poor and has been for a few months now.
I will add my thoughts more fully later but you do not keep kicking the driver off the bus every time you hit a bump in the road. Especially when for most of the journey they have had to keep getting out to either pump up the tyres or crawl around the garage trying find spares to fit.
In such circumstances it is not surprising the passengers lose faith that the driver is taking the bus in the right direction.
I fear this latest decision is less to do with our current league position and once again to do with player resources.
The current situation goes beyond the remit of the coach. In recent weeks there has been a void in leadership of the club.
Someone very clearly needs to step up to the plate.
Grass is always greener and all that. Yes, we have been shite for 2 months now BUT who will Heir Duchâtelet bring in next?? Making a rod for his/our back as we are becoming a poisoned chalice for any half decent manager. Thing is Peters had substantially more quality, if not quantity, at his disposal than both Powell and Riga and would assume next guy will have broadly the same numbers to work with so i do not expect anyone of note to put themselves forward

He was the first manager I got to speak to on a regular basis for News Shopper and I never had a problem with him during his time at the club.
I will have fond memories of his era especially the time he requested for a beer after the Reading game.
