Had mates texting me all afternoon with things like "Uni mug", "ooh how much are your season fees", "brain", "we're guna do you 2:1". I'm inconsolable here. Thanks Charlton.
Even though I'm not English, and I only know the more well-known universities in England, I am proud to have University of Greenwich as a sponsor. I love the partnership with a local institution and the fact it's about education and development - personally, I think the partnership sounds great

Wow your mates must really hate education. Special ed spanners I assume.

As we are considered a family club in the real sense rather than just having token gestures, I consider this a great deal for the club. The fact that we have turned down payday loan and betting companies reinforces this.
A few years ago after Vodafone's shirt sponsorship finished with Manchester Utd they went on to turn down a £70 million 4 year deal offered by Mansion Casino Group, the board felt it was not comfortable with a betting company as the shirt sponsor of a family club so accepted a lesser deal with an insurance company. Mansion then went to Tottenham offering far less (as you would expect) and got their hands bitten off. Tottenham fans young and old were complaining shortly after that they were being bombarded with email & text messages constantly encouraging them to gamble on the Mansion site with special offers included as a hook. Its good to know that their are still clubs that understand value rather than just price. I would put Charlton in with these clubs.
Like the idea of this sponsor and think it is a good tie in. However I am a bit confused re the contra deal. I can see it is good for UoG in terms of publicity, using CAFC facilities, tickets etc but apart from it being good PR how does it benefit Charlton assuming there is little cash involved? Or is it re the Academy?

In a similar vein, have to say I do get a bit hacked off with the emails/tweets/Facebook posts from Official Charlton accounts promoting Sky Bet - particularly when the odds on the opposition are the ones being suggested! All down to being in the Sky Bet Championship. I suspect their odds a probably better than the ones in the on-site Tote though.
Makes me even more pleased to have UoG sponsoring us. If they offered a good deal on part-time degrees to mature students, I'd be more than interested...

Use of things like the student accommodation in the summer, (which happened a couple of years back and the uni complained about the complete mess the academy made) use of the campus' for events, advertising within the university and new fanbase potential from unattached students looking for cheap football to watch nearby

There is a decent amount of cash involved (if the News Shopper reporter is to be believed).
The University of Greenwich has agreed a two-year shirt sponsorship deal with Charlton Athletic which News Shopper understands to be one of the most lucrative in the Football League.

Is it just me or did others not have a clue who Mansion were , I remember them being the sponsors on the Spurs shirt and seeing the name around the ground but actually had no idea who/what they were and as someone who used to gamble and go to casinos I find that surprising

No mate it's not just you, I wasn't aware that was their line of business either however with regard to your past, you certainly drew the short straw supporting us :-)

But you do know who they are now! They were (relatively) new to the UK and wanted a big-name sponsorship to get them profile and get their name/website known in the UK. Shows the power of football, in particular the Barclays Premiership, in getting the publicity these businesses want.
Still glad that we have never entertained this sort of sponsor, or pay-day loan, drink or tobacco companies.

Did my four year teaching degree at Avery Hill and it did me no harm.
Wibble.

As my scouse work colleague would say: 'Dat's dead good dat, in it?'
No wonder tuition fees are £10k per year when second rate academic institutions are sponsoring football clubs.
Very pleased and will be purchasing the home and away shirts now.
