OP - we all know that northern teams get good support down here, cos they have come to live and work, study in the streets paved of gold, opposite is not true, also, I would say we always get a better following at Utd - not full of pricks, I refer you to owlsonline Charlton forum
Hate to state this to ya but plenty of Charlton fans live in Sheffield and use this forum for that matter, also there are northern Charlton living up North, for me it's a poor excuse.
I genuinely was expecting at least 1k from you guys today, seriously.
Sorry, I never realised more of you would go to Bramall Ln just because you dont like Owlsonline lol, okay.... you got me.
Hundreds / thousands of Charlton supporters in Sheffied then and lots and lots up North. There is a surprise. Not sure that is true.
Just because you want to discount it because you are not in a good mood because your team lost doesn't mean that there is not some truth in the explanation OP.
I was referring to the other poster saying everyone from the North comes to London to live, it's a two way street on that behalf but do choose to ignore it if you wish.
Who cares - We have decent support considering the competition in our city. We beat Wednesday away fair and square for the second time this year and OP has to mention them being on their hols, our support, they will finish higher than us etc... Straws well and truly clutched Piggy.
You are a respected poster on here and probably better you come on when not feeling so raw - our fault really as we were baiting you. To be honest, this wasn't the game that hurt- it was the cup game and revenge is never really as satisfying as you think it will be. It is a positive that we will be playing each other next season surely.

Correct. It is a two way street but there are lots more walking in one direction than the other. Hundreds of Charlton fans in Sheffield my arse.
OP you must be really pissed off today you know fine well there arent many charlton fans in sheffield. And as for expecting 1k get real you know that was never going to be the case.Just take todays result on the chin.

People do travel up north to work and study but of those many of them support other teams like man utd and other London teams etc (unbelievable, I know that they should make that choice but its true). The charlton contingent that have moved North is not significant.
Even though there has been focus on it throughout the season, I do believe that us struggling so much, has taken some of the attention away from a fantastic achievement for the club. This season has been all about survival. But in it is a hidden positive. Today's lineup had 5 academy graduates in the starting lineup and one former academy player coming from the bench. All of these players have years of football left in them, and already they've gained great experience from one of the most competitive leagues in the world. The age of our lineup today was impressive
Solly 23 Fox 20 Cousins 20 Poyet 19 Harriott 20
Hopefully we'll hold on to our core players, stay up, and we have a fantastic young team with already good experience - with more talents on the way. We are showing Charlton is a club that gives youth a chance, and we are a great place for development. Fantastic steps towards bigger things in the future!
We're not safe yet and we don't know what Duchatelet will do during the summer, but it's certainly possible to paint a very positive picture. To your list you might add, Parzyszek (20), Pigott (20), Lennon (19), Gomez (17) et al, then Reza (23), Ajdarevic who might sign, who knows, (24), Morrison (26), Dervite (25), Church (25), Wiggins (26), Wilson (26) and, after today's performance, Sordell (23)!!
Add in some top quality coaching and two to three years out that group might represent a very decent Championship squad. If we do manage to survive and then retain those from this group who will be out of contract in the summer the picture might look very different indeed from the recent gloom.
OP I understand you being on our page 2 times per season. Maybe three if there is a cup game. But for heavens sake would you do one for the rest of the season.

I think you were talking of the expectation of having 1k Charlton supporters up there. If there is not that many Charlton supporters up north (as opposed to people from London) then 1k Charlton supporters are not realistic. On top of that after the Sheff Utd FA cup game wash out, a visit to Hillsborough already in the Wednesday cup defeat and numerous games in Huddersfield and quite a few 3-0 defeats at the end of a pretty rubbish season it is not a surprise that there were not that many there. Fair play to those that attended.
I'm not one to get into the "our away support is crap" debate as its been done to death, but just for OP sake I will add that a lot of our fan base do not live in S/E London, but in Kent or Sussex, which means getting to Sheffield takes at least an hour longer than if you travelled from the centre of London.
OP you must be really pissed off today you know fine well there arent many charlton fans in sheffield. And as for expecting 1k get real you know that was never going to be the case.Just take todays result on the chin.
So how come you can only bring a few hundred fans up here for a crunch game though, at a time when your team needs the most support? on a bank holiday so traffic is light, everyone's off work, I ask because I'm genuinely curious, you get decent gates at home compared to others.
Yeovil get what 6k? they brought more then you, Macclesfield brought more and they get 1k at home! this isn't a dig i'm just curious, I was speaking to a Millwall fan the other month and he reckons you only get better support then them because your club offers free bus tickets from the Kent area, don't know if he were pulling my leg or owt.
We have a different dynamic - you go abroad and you see the same. We have a higher percentage of home only fans. The few that go do a great job. What does it matter? We went up there...again.... and beat you.
We are grateful for the 3 points as they were much needed - it means we can still catch you in the league lol
Hey pig ....Was reading that whole summary with great interest then you have to go and mention attendences and crowds. Why? You like many other Wednesday fans turn to the same old rubbish about attendences everytime you lose to us.
It's boring and to be frank, we don't give a crap. So thanks for the three points and we look forward to taking another 3 points of you next season. Have a great summer PAL
Goes to show that it's not what you have in the stands, but what you have on the pitch that counts.
Today, however, the passion from both was never in doubt.
Whatever Mrs OP might say, size does NOT matter, Piggy !

Hmmm. A bit of a wind up there OP, nice try not biting. Very funny. The Millwall supporter thing blew it. I think we need to concentrate on the result
3-2 : 3-2 : 3-2 : 3-2. Charlton is a bit of an unlucky team for Wednesday eh OP.
JR is really a puzzle for me. He has clearly changed the style of play, placing more importance on possession and movement. This puts a premium on technical ability, and yet this doesn’t seem to be reflected in his team selection. AA, Reza, Petrucci, Wilson are arguably all stronger technically than Church, Sordell, Harriott and Cousins, and yet the latter four all started today while none of the former four did. This is odd.
As many others have said, I also felt the starting line-up was wrong, but two of those I wouldn’t have chosen (Sordell, Harriott) went on to have probably their best games this season. I suppose I should just be grateful and leave it at that … but I still want to understand what’s happening. I definitely give JR full marks for man management. Sordell had more fight in him than I have even seen hinted at before (to say nothing of three excellent finishes) and Harriott not only worked very hard (he generally does), but also showed more confidence in taking people on than I have seen before this season (to say nothing of his two assists, the first of which was perfect) - quite an achievement given that by all accounts he had something of a torrid, confidence-sapping time last time out. I still have reservations about both players, but most of all I’m intrigued by JR’s thinking.
In terms of the match, the players looked very tired in the first half. They were second to almost every ball, and I couldn’t see how they could get anything from the match. The second half was completely different. Somehow the team was completely re-energised, whereas SW, who looked pretty impressive at times in the first half, showed nothing much at all. AA came on ten minutes into the second half and certainly justified my feeling of puzzlement about his absence at the start. We played some good stuff at times after he came on and he was at the heart of most of it. He’s a big influence on the team; his football brain makes a big difference and he seems to demand a more thoughtful approach from others.
In the second half Solly played as though he’d never been away. He had a tricky winger to mark who was trying to turn him inside out. However, almost nobody can do this successfully against Solly. He’s Maradona-esque in his low centre of gravity - he just twists and turns faster than anyone and does it without ever losing his balance. Oh for him to be back playing regularly with Wilson in front - but there I go again about team selection.
Finally a word about Fox. I saw him in his first appearance, also against SW (in the cup). On both occasions he has impressed with his calm approach. He’s very conservative, always putting safety first. He has weaknesses - pace, control, use of the ball, attacking capability - and this might ultimately have implications for his chances of making a career at championship level. But for now, he’s doing what’s required.
OP , you've got to understand that there's over 10 London teams vying for support , Sheffields only got 2, personally after going to Sheffield twice this season I was sick of the place, pigsick I didn't go now.
Poor excuse though, whatever happened to your team needs you? you still didn't clear it up either, why do you get 16k at home but 200 in a game that your team needs you away?
The whole day was a great experience. Fantastic pub (Kelham Island Tavern), thank you OP for the choice. Farmers ale, £2.20 a pint. Good chat with reasoned, sensible Sheffield folk about both teams. We were the most pessimistic, hoping for a point. They thought we had a chance, end of season safe and all that. In the ground, meeting up with Northern mates, a little concerned about Wilson not playing, and Harriott in the team, but happy with Sordell in the starting line up, as he had shown signs of improved performances over the last few matches.
After 8 mins utter despair, but thankfully the quick response to make it 2-1. A few shaky moments after, but then a growing feeling that we were now in this game, which proved correct when we equalised before half-time.
Second half was a bit of a nail biter, but after that fantastic through ball by their centre forward for Sordell to score his hattrick it was actually quite comfortable.
On the tram back to the station, some good natured chat between Wednesday and Charlton fans.
This leads me onto my last point, the people in Sheffield were delightful, good, friendly chat and it worries me the vitriol and bile I see on this site and others when we are all part of the same football community. Some people need to calm down in slagging off opposing fans, they are just like you and me. (even OP!)
Sheff United's 0-0 with Tranmere today means they mathematically can't get into the play offs. For their great run, it is yet another season in League One for them!
