I make the fella right, also he was not abusive at all.
"What is going on with this club is a disgrace" says it all.
What he has done is wrong and shouldn't happen. Possibly a bit naive to travel with the "fans" after a performance like that and I wouldn't be surprised if she reverts to her own vehicle now.
But I'd love to know who it was shouting " Belgian C*#€ts" because they need banning. Permanently. And a good slap
If the club had been straight at the beginning and communicated everything effectively then it's likely that this little event would not have happened. The guy wanted answers to some questions that had been thrown up by recent events. Had everything been communicated properly there would have been no need to ask any questions.
Just watched the video. Only watched the first half so don't know if he eventually paused his drunken aggressive rant to actually listen to any of her answers. Absolutely no justification for that behaviour. It was not a football special so there were probably a good few people in that carriage who had nothing to do with Charlton or football who had to put up with this drunken rant during the course of their journey. It reminds me of the times I use to travel to away games by train years ago and eventually got into the habit of taking the 2nd or 3rd train back to London in order that I did not have to listen to or witness this type of yobish behaviour throughout the journey back to London.
I feel as embarrassed as a lot of Arsenal fans must have felt when a video of yobish Arsenal fans abusing Wenger at a train station a few months ago went viral.

She did say on the train that she wanted to take the train as she didn't want to hide away from the fans.
Just catching up with all of this from yesterday. I have to say Katrien has gone up a couple of notches in my estimation. Travelling on public transport, facing upset fans, standing her ground - that's more balls than Roland appears to have, and more than the team showed yesterday. Luzon may or may not be a good appointment but if the team need a role model for sheer guts, they can look at Katrien. Well done her.

This is NOTHING like the Arsenal fans abusing Wenger. NOBODY was abusing Meire. Had there been a bunch of Charlton fans shouting at Katrien and abusing her (like the original story suggested) I would be one of the first ones to condemn it. That didn't happen. At worst, the guy was responsible for being a bit of a drunken dick. He did ask her some valid question, it is a shame however he couldn't keep his mouth shut long enough so we could hear some more of her responses, but that's alcohol for you.
I've seen KM travel back from a game by train in the past - last season when we beat Sheffield Wednesday. She travelled down to St Pancras and then got on the Northern Line. On her own. Don't see a problem with it, and if she is brave enough to do it after a 5-0 away drubbing, at a time when there will be lots of fans about, then good for her.
I think we (and she) have to accept that Roland does all he wants - he made the decision to sack Bob (not her, or the Board as she said); he appointed Luzon; and if anybody did other interviews it would have been Roland and not KM/RM. She is just a puppet for him.
What we now need is to re-group; bolster our meagre resources (surely Luzon will accept we need more strength at goalie, defensive midfield, and up front so hopefully he can convince Roly?); and move on.
Just watched the video, i take back my earlier comment in this thread about it being shameful behaviour by our fan, he is not being abusive in that video, he is clearly a diehard and passionate Charlton fan who has possibly had a little too much to drink desperate for answers to a terrible week that has left him upset, nothing more serious then that.
We are fans, we are meant to be emotional.
Did she really say Curbs applied, as if you think Curbs coming back would be the right appointment or not, surely they can't defend not even giving a face to face interview to one of our best, if not the best manager in the history of the club?
I think you're missing the point. Luzon is already on the payroll of the network. What ever Curbs was going to be paid would have been on top of Luzon's salary.
I don't think they were, ever, going to carry out a full recruitment process. They never even said as much. One could argue that they did carry out a search. The searched for Luzon's number and called him!
Doesn't she say in the video that they interviewed 20 candidates !
Probably going to upset some people here but what the hell. The fan in that video is an embarrassment. Drinking/not drinking, emotional from the defeat/the weeks events it doesn't matter. He is an embarrassment.
I'll agree with you that he wasn't abusive but that is as far as that goes.
He was intimidating, he made sure of it. Look at the body language, he keeps himself big and above her, he blocks her exit towards the door (even if she wasn't trying to use it) and keeps her stuck in the corner, he even calls his friends over. We obviously have different standards as to what is acceptable behaviour towards fellow passengers when travelling on public transport. I suppose the racist chanting by Charlton fans on a tube train a few years ago was 'banter' in your eyes.
I think the most remarkable thing about that video is how all those people can remain so calm whilst the plane is crashing. Perhaps the whole thing is a very clever metaphor for what is going on at Charlton.

The racism incident and what happened on the train yesterday aren't remotely comparable. However, if you genuinely feel that they are then you should report yesterday's incident to the police, suspect they'd tell you to stop wasting their time.

It was a debating technique. 'If you think A then it could follow you must think B' ......where B is obviously way more shocking then A.

I think you might need to brush up on your debating skills !
Watching the first video clip, the guy is frustrated and wants some answers. He said he had left at half time and most likely gone to the pub and had a few beers. He is a big bloke standing whilst KM is sitting but is not yobbish or ranting or made any physical threats. I don't think he swears in the clip. It is not the most clear set of questioning but he does ask some questions that have not had an answer. He is clearly upset as are most of us about the state of the club.
I would have preferred it if he had tried to get some answers about the lack of quality and depth in the squad. He started and KM said something about no one had told any lies. He then went back to the interview process.
One thing though, there is frequent problems on that line, Katrien was lucky there wasn't any overhead signalling problems yesterday. Then it would have been a very long train ride.

Was this man acting in a hostile manner, yes. Was he abusive, not in my view. Can a senior member of the board expect to have a loyal fan of over 30 years challenge an executive after a performance / week at the club like this, i think yes. I work in a hospital and hear worse than that most days (even when we do hit our targets). This bloke was having a rant, no doubt about it, but the club need to hear the views of the common man / fan, because if ever he/we should be listened to, to know how much it is hurting us, it is now. Katrien is an employee and is embarrassed by the team's performance, but she is not hurt. There is no distress in her voice about what is happening on the pitch, only what is happening off it, and in that i mean fans having a go.
So will the board come out fighting or hide away. I doubt she'll be on many trains with the fans in the near future, and not to save a risk of being 'abused', more likely RDwill tell her not to enter into any dialogue that could give away RD's plans or views.

Well it just came across as a ridiculous comment by someone who doesn't understand the difference between the very severe offence of racism and the complete non-offence that is being discussed on this thread.
I would not personally want to entertain anytime with either her or Roland.
If it was a home game, I would of gave her my season ticket book and told her want to do it with it. (In a polite not threatening manner which does not disturbe any other train journey on the way back).

I think you should drop it @Red_in_SE8. Trying to draw the Racist shouting together with the supporter asking some questions yesterday is clearly ridiculous. You need to admit that or you going to end up completely undermining your opinion about the KM questioning on the train.
Good as well that the thread does not descend into insults and name calling.

Kudos to Katrien, for sitting there, sticking to her guns and trying to explain reasonably what was going on with our club. She would never be able to reveal everything about the recruitment process and she tried to explain her programme notes, before getting cut off a number of times, and it didn't sound like she was losing her temper the way our "fan" was. She has my respect, that "fan" can go off to millwall. They seem to be at his intelligence level.
Didn't upset me JD. one of the best comments on here.
Anyone that thinks that video is abusive and terrifying needs to get their head out of there arse. Apart from asking the same question over and over the fella didn't do a lot wrong. Why Katrien insists that the appointment process was thorough and normal is anyone's guess.

Because the work permit requirements oblige her to do so.....?
Airman, my response would be that drunk football supporters should not be allowed onto the trains. Ban the offender not the victim, and as she was reportedly close to tears, I see her as a victim in this scenario. We have only watched a portion of what happened so that needs to be borne in mind. Quite why people feel they have the right to get drunk and upset people I just do not understand. I trust it's not Labour Party policy;-)
