Nobody was rude or threatening, stop blowing it out of proportion. The guy was a bit drunk and a bit loud

she.wasn't even at work so didn't have to answer a single question.
Do you really believe that, I don't hold a position with anywhere near the seniority that KM does but I'm expected to interact with my customer whenever I meet them, this, in the past has even interrupted nights out with friends but it's part of the job and I accept that. As the CEO of a customer based company I'd expect the same from her.

If I started shouting at my customers and crying I'd be dismissed the second my boss found out.
  • Fair play to both of them.he said what we are all thinking and she stood her ground .I like her
  • thanks Bubble
agree with Boogica, and she must have expected a reaction like that with all that has gone on in the past week and then that abject display by the team.

She does have a right to be on public transport at any time without being harassed or bullied in any way. That's it, full stop, otherwise you are effectively blaming a victim for the bullying that she received. The man has to take responsibility for his own actions.

The fella did nothing wrong didn't see him being abusive or bullying , he asked her simple questions nothing wrong with that.
A woman will most likely see it differently and I most certainly see it as harassment, bullying also in respect of the considerable physical size difference. It is intimidating and unpleasant and reflects badly on all Charlton men, the vast majority of whom would not have behaved in that way.
    Utterly sexist.
  • Fair play to the CEO for not hiding away in a nice car after that loss. To be honest I think I would have gone for that cosier option purely to avoid a bit of grief, but why not travel with fans, your customers, admirable in its way.
To me it does not matter if our CEO is male or female, they presumably have the job on their own merits and abilities. They are entitled to travel around without intimidation, but they are also well able to consider their own safety and well being in such circumstances.
I really hope the CEO did not feel physically intimidated by what went on, because that is clearly not pleasant or acceptable. But I would certainly expect (and imagine )that they could handle themselves well enough in a discussion/ argument/ exchange of views, without too trouble. You do not get to be CEO without a certain resilience and resolve eh.

You might need to explain that - I don't get it

  • Regarding transport, I'd say Meire can't win with (some) fans.

People saying she shouldn't be on a public train because fans are also using it, hence she apparently deserves fans looming over her without listening to her answers.

If Meire was seen getting into and being driven away in a plush, tinted windowed car, people would accuse her of being flash and having no connections with what it's like to be a fan.

Agree with this. We moan that there's a massive disconnect between the board and the support so putting herself up to being approached outside the ground, as she has done in the past, or travelling with fans is to be welcomed and applauded.

That said on this occasion a wiser head may have suggested discretion was the better part of valour and to let the dust settle before putting herself in a position where she was always likely to face this type of situation. As things stand, and I haven't seen the video, the existing chasm between us and them is a little wider than it was even this time yesterday.

Sad times, given our history of engagement between the owners and supporters.
  • I make the fella right, also he was not abusive at all.

"What is going on with this club is a disgrace" says it all.

What he has done is wrong and shouldn't happen. Possibly a bit naive to travel with the "fans" after a performance like that and I wouldn't be surprised if she reverts to her own vehicle now.

But I'd love to know who it was shouting " Belgian C*#€ts" because they need banning. Permanently.
    And a good slap

  • The guy talking to her in the video isn't actually that bad, i don't think anyone could say he overstepped the mark at all, just asking questions that everyone wants answers to.

What is out of order though, is that someone commented on the video saying that after the video stopped someone else went up to her and got right in her face and was rude to her. That's unacceptable.

Still find it remarkable she was on a train home with away fans. If she really wanted to get the train, stick around for an hour or so after the game then go, don't sit right in amongst angry fans after the past weeks debacle and a 5-0 drubbing
  • It was just a conversation, a big lad having a conversation with a lady. Nothing intimidating, just putting his point across. And it is a point. He was no more rude than her imo. I'm sure she's very stressed at this moment in time but so are our fans, and she gets PAID for it, it's her career.. our fans are the ones PAYING for it.

Also I'm not sure I quite understand Katriens story about why she hadn't lied?
  • She had a choice to make after watching us capitulate 5-0, it was a very brave decision to still get on that train (man or woman) knowing that she was likely to be travelling with some very irate fans.
I take my hat off to her for sticking to her decision and facing up to her responsibilities as a CEO, how many other clubs CEO's would have thought "sod that" and headed for the nearest cab office?

I still believe she played her part in RD's bulls*** based appointment process, but, then he probably pays her very well for doing so and she was following his instructions.

And when she leaves Charlton she is not going to give a moments thought about the supporters.

Was she supposed to get the train there and a taxi back after a bad result but the train after a good one?
Following the wise principle of hate the sin love the sinner, I admire her for often travelling the same as supporters it is an admirable quality, but I don't admire other stuff she has been a party to.
Personally I have found her to be likeable but I don't like some of the things she does or says. But being critical of her mode of travel is a bit desperate even for us.
  • He says what we all want to say, its passionate yes, aggressive no, she needs to be held accountable for her actions. Its part and parcel of the job.

Do you think Richard Murray arrived on the train? It's hardly rocket science to drop her off somewhere away from the departing fans (and for all I know he offered). Or Chris Parkes?

She must be a glutton for punishment.

I get your point about folk being circumspect, but it didn't happen and she ended up on the train. We are trainspotters after all.
I also understand that if it was a statement of some kind, or a florid show of Chutzpa then it is unwise, but it simply seems like she took the most convenient way to travel to and from Vicarage Road.
  • Not abusive at all. Just two passionate people have a bit of an argument, if that. The only thing wrong with the video is the bloke not letting her finish when she starts explaining the process of Luzon's appointment. This is what she needs to do next. Publish an honest timeline of Peeters' sacking and Luzon's appointment in The Valley Review and put it to bed.
  • personally i find the abuse of katrien to sit uncomfortably with me. Not because she's a woman, but i think it's because she's been hung out to dry by roland. He's obviously an awful person to work for and will turn his back on you at a moments notice. Katrien is a relatively young CEO in charge of a company that turnover millions of pounds a year - who would give that up? Especially in such a field that's dominated by men. That's why she hasn't resigned after being treated like poop by roland imo. He's using that as leverage.
  • (Have not watched the video yet)

But I think, that after some thought of fear that the video would be uncomfortable viewing etc, I think, overall, what happened is a good thing.

The slight (very slight) sexism issue arising on here over this can be explained in parts.

If a drunk bald bloke that I've never met started firing questions at me on public transport when on my own (given the fact that I can handle myself) I would find it unpleasant, uncomfortable and would want him to f*ck off basically, before a possibly threatening situation occurred. Whether you are a man or women, it would not be enjoyable and does not make a difference what gender you are. You could say a women is more vulnerable in that situation, but no, I don't think so. Probably the opposite to be fair, in reality, but it is just not particularly nice to see. Considering hearing she handled herself well then that's great. She chose her travel circumstances knowing this could occur and she fought her corner like a good person and a professional , did not hide away.

If she went home in floods of tears then she is in the wrong job. She is old enough and wise enough.

From a fans thoughts and feelings towards her, this has done her favours.

    I like her.
