  • The other thing about the Jonny Williams loan is that he's only gone to Ipswich for one month. I think we probably wanted the full 3 months and maybe Palace, or him, weren't too keen on that...
  • So the blame isn't on Roland and more on squad selection?

Some backtracking might be needed from a fair few...
  • When clubs loan players out to other clubs they need to look after there players best interest i.e is he going to get the game time he needs .You have to ask yourselves the question will they at Charlton? .
  • Astrit seems to be getting plenty of game time, and he's a loanee...

Agreed Weegie however if you look at our record over 24 months, I believe that he and Cameron are the exceptions top the rule.

Ps Now you'll go and do it and prove me wrong.

  • We need a right sided player to play with Wilson - either right back or right wing / right half. And a striker. Astrit is getting game time and anyone good enough will also go straight into the squad. Players have a chance of playing at Wembley so what's not to like about CAFC? And any player good enough is going to help us get there plus secure wins in the league so surely it is time we signed someone.

A shame that overseas loans not allowed else we could see a couple more appear from Liege.
  • Are we in for any more ?.Has anyone heard anything else?
  • So it seems like we are not willing to be held to ransom and bullied in to giving in to all the demands by other clubs for the loan of their players.

Might not be ideal but i still prefer that to our scramble to have anyone on loan who will come, that happened under Pardew and Parkinson the last time we struggled in the Championship.

Are we actually being ransomed and bullied by other clubs? I thought we were being turned down by the players in the current window. Garvin and Willimas were both allowed to talk to us and turned us down.
  • If the shoe was on the other foot, would we be sending out our young talent to help out Palace? Nah...

Didn't think we were in for Garvan . The massives were the other club in the mix for him. Leon Best turned us down for family and geographical reasons.

Well what i meant by that was the suggestion that we are missing out on players due to not accepting that they have to start rather then earn their place, which i think is a good thing.

Also losing out on Leon Best at the last minute due to Wednesday willing to gamble their long term prospects by chucking more money on another expensive loan player by offering to pay a higher percentage of his wage.

I think the not selecting loan players thing is just a none too subtle way to undermine CP's management. CP is not perfect and can be picked up on tactical weaknesses but not playing loan players is a false stick to beat him with. Its all opinion, I guess. Its got more to do with the money IMO. It it is an unsubstantiated urban myth, easy to say with no evidence. Not sure why Charlton should be at the mercy of agents and other clubs regarding who gets to play in any case. Stewart got lots of game time as is AA. There are clear spots for a decent striker, right back and right half, and even left midfield.
  • This may be totally wrong but are there any free agents that might strengthen us?
  • Maybe even someone injury prone that can't find a club and could be worth a punt? (Michael Stewart is still without a club, lol JOKING)

Ivan Klasnic is without a club I think, could be worth a punt.
  • Unless the free agent has been training for months, I doubt they'll be fit enough for the run in.

We definitely need another loan or two, have to move onto other targets instead of seemingly giving up after losing out for a few.
  • big jase doing the business up north. oh what could have been

You don't have to be able to run around like a headless chicken for 90 mins to be an effective player. I remember seeing an aging Jan Molby down at the Valley and he bossed the game without leaving the centre circle.

yes, we should have avoided that centre circle!

Difficult he appeared more like Cliftons Roundabout than a midfield player that day.

He will be at Forest in a few days then.
Maybe he fancies a relegation battle?

He is also Cup tied as is I discovered last night Becchio.

  • We're better location wise surely, might pull this one off...
  • @bigredevil and @richard j I only said he will go to Forest as he knows the club and he will prefer pushing for promotion than fighting against relegation.

I think you mean the opening game of the season at Smellhurst in 1988 when a podgy Molby played sweeper and took the piss in their 3-0 win.

    Great player.
  • I don't even know who he is - can we not go after a player I have heard of?

He's quite good to be fair.
