IF you were bringing in a player why keep it a secret for two weeks? And how could you keep it a secret?
It may work out that we sign a player today or tomorrow but it would be a coincidence not the reason for the press conference.
I'm sure there will be lots of positive news, even Powell being sacked would be positive news for some, but don't be disappointed if no signings are announced as it has never been billed as an unveiling.
"Meanwhile, the Daily Express are convinced that Charton want to sign Norwich misfit Luciano Becchio, Fulham's Derek Boateng and out-of-favour winger Shaun Wright-Phillips on loan from QPR, who will replace SWP by completing the loan signing of Ravel Morrison from West Ham, with confirmation expected later today."
Not sure you can expect an owner in this day and age to spell out his exit strategy, especially not at this early stage of their tenure. It would be lovely to know it but ultimately unrealistic and in many ways we are better not knowing as things in business change all the time and all the fans would start reading too much into things if things didn't go as clockwork.
I was not a TJ/MS fan but it was pretty obvious what they were hoping would happen and pretty obvious when it wasn't going to, coming out and telling us would not have made things better.
See, I think it would have been easy for TJ and MS to be honest about their exit strategy.
All they had to say it "Our backers are investing in Charlton as we feel that we can get the club back to the Premiership and then sell it on at a profit. So success for us is success for the fans, get behind us and buy some season tickets". Simple really.
All RD has to say is "We're here for the long haul. The plan is to develop Charlton based on youth players and cheap but high quality players from my network of clubs. I'm planning to be Chairman for 10 years before handing it over to my grandson/sell it to some rich people."

Wouldn't mind any of these. In fact, sod it, I'm so bloody desperate for us to sign someone, anyone, just to give me a glimmer of hope...
Mind you, it may all be part of RD's cunning plan to reduce expectations so that when we sign highly rated (at least by RD) 47 year old Mongolian goal machine (2 in 375 games in the Shepton Mallet division twelve reserve league prior to moving to his present club, who he's never managed to play for, for a club record £2.50) Neva Erdovim (from his newly acquired Leichtensteinian team 'FC Randomski', who actually qualified for European football in 1978 due to an administrative error and once had a record 14 people attend a cup game, most of them by accident) for an undisclosed fee, we can all get very excited - at least until we realise he's never going to appear for us either because CP doesn't rate him...
IF he is a Charlton fan and lives in Kent why haven't we got this Ter-Horst in on trial for a couple of weeks.
Typical Charlton wibble, wibble, blah, blah
I'm pretty sure we have been looking at him and that he has been mentioned on this or another site. I remember commenting at the time that I had seen him play although I think he may have been injured when our U21's were down there.
Update from Cawley in today's SLP.Nothing new unfortunately.
'Powell is continuing to pursue a loan deal for Palace midfielder Johnny Williams, who has recently started renting a place in Beckenham. And he is also after Shaun Wright-Phillips.'
