  • So are we getting anyone or aren't we? Despite all the Cup excitement, I continue to be worried of Glasgow...

I am so with you on this.

    Worried of Forest Hill.

  • Signing Boateng could allow jordan cousins to play RB as cover for Nego.

alternatively, a midfield 3 of Cousins/Astrid/Boateng would be well-balanced with strength and skill, albeit fairly defensive in outlook. obviously that would seemingly leave no room for Poyet to start.

Derek Boateng had a decent-ish African Nations 2013. he is a bit hit and miss but is a monster who can play a lot, certainly can pick a pass.

also had an interesting career in terms of contracts, his move from Dnipro to Fulham went to CAS (court of arbitration for sport) as Dnipro didnt let him move in the January 2013 window. he is outspoken and has been poorly advised in the past.

his game is ideally suited to a relegation dogfight if he comes with the committment and vigour he usually displays for the Black Stars.

I'd rather us sign a RB and play Cousins in central midfield which is his best position. He's wasted anywhere else.

    Just read the SLP.

Firstly Cawley explains the situation around Leon Best.

Apparently he is on £30,000 a week and we had a deal in place to pay part of it . At the last minute the Massives offered to pay double their original offer to get their man, the fact that Best's partner is about to give birth to twins so he could stay in the north probably also influenced the situation. As I have said before we must remember that often these decisions are taken by players not because they have feelings about a particular club / manager ,but because like all of us the have family/home lives to consider.

On to Boateng the SLP states that he wants to play regularly so that he can be in the Ghana World Cup squad and that he was due to go to Watford last month but that fell through. My own thoughts are that the new manager coming in at the Cottage might scupper this deal because Magath would want to look at his player assets.

Cawley states we currently have 5 loanees and Boateng would make it 6 . I think this is inaccurate because currently we only have Thuram, Astrit and Sordell as first team loans . Although Koc is also a loan he hasn't yet been named in a squad and didn't even appear for the U21's last night. So by my calculations we currently have 4 of which 1 is not really a first team player. I would say we at least have room for 2 more and if Hamer is fit we could even have a third if Phillips rather than Thuram is on the bench.

If it means he'll play ahead of our own players such as Cousins and Poyet then they can keep him. Developing our own players is more important than making sure some second-rate journeyman makes a World Cup squad.

In principle I agree with you ,but the weight of games coming up means we don't want to burn Jordan and Diego out or be caught without cover if they are injured.

It is a lot to expect 2 teenagers to hold the midfield together for 2 games a week during March and April. an example would be this weekend if Boateng played against QPR then a fresh Poyet would be available against the massives.
    Agree with this btw.
  • @SkySportsPeteO: Former Swansea & Leeds defender Fede Bessone has signed a deal until end of the season at Millwall. #millwall

We're aiming too high, his loan to Watford didn't work out so he's going to be happy dropping down to the relegation zone? Doubtful.

Where we suppose to aim then?
Players that would actually be willing to move to us.

Gradel and SWP were never going to come.
  • Hope we get him. Just what we need in a relegation scrap.

    Seconded.

    Worried of Forest Hill.

Worried of Sydenham. Maybe we can get together and do some synchronised worrying.
  • I hope that this isn't going to follow the normal sequence of events,i.e, target mentioned in SLP, we get excited, target signs for someone else!

I'm not panicking yet, but we MUST strengthen the squad, and sooner rather than later. I can only imagine CP's frustration right now.... this takeover has given him a 'hospital pass' of disastrous proportions. He must feel like he is fighting with one hand tied behind his back.

    Thanks for posting from Wikki.

JP sounds perfect to come good for next season. It is looking as though potentially Charlton will have a decent young (League One) team that may lead to an interesting championonship team , when / if they are get promoted from League One.
  • so if you had low expectations then they went to nil is it possible to get below nil expectations ?
  • Thought we could only have domestic loans?

  • Please, please. Anyone, any position, any age, left foot, right foot, 3ft or 7ft tall. Just someone who will add something to the team and show us that we are going to really try and stay in this league.
  • Does no-one want to join us?
  • I'm starting to have little or no expectation, sadly. what worries me is the potential fixture congestion - we will run out of legs, or, have to play players that are out of favour or rusty - not good...

Have we not been doing that all season? :)

    On reflection.. Totally right!
  • Yes, apart from improving the team - we have the added issue of needing to be able to cover potential injuries to key players! It does seem that the club is trying to get some deals done, but the players it feels will improve us are not available or don't want to come to us. I'd be surprised if nothing happens- everybody knows it has to!
  • Loans during window your having a laugh, loans during window your having a laugh. We might get some reject of one of his clubs at best.
