If this was any body apart from Powell they would be gone because all the fans would be on he's back , just because he's a club legend it's clouding people's judgement i really believe that , we're doing worse than when pardew and parkinson was In Charge and they got booed every game ect . Powells decisions and tactics are baffling me now especially playing cm's at right wing every game.
I don't hate Powell, I like him. I thought he did marvels to get us out of div1 and even better to get us to finish ninth. But there is a saying that you are only as good as your last game. Powell for me has made too many mistakes this season. Added to that he doesn't seem to have learnt from them. You can't keep on looking back at what he did, it is what he is doing now that is important. I would be sad to see him go as he is a lovely man and there are plenty of mitigating reasons why we are in the bottom three. But the simple truth is that it is a results business and five wins in twenty seven games is poor.

5 wins in 27 games is poor, but it's not far of what we expected is it?
He'd be doing well if he had 10 wins from 27, but that still wouldn't be enough for some. Around this time last year he was apparently taking us down. The year before that we had a dodgy run that was apparently going to end up with us missing out on promotion. The year before he was going to take us down to League 2, and had apparently proven he wasn't the man to take us back up.
When we were signing Church and Sordell days before the season started we knew for certain it would be a difficult season. 5 in 27 is poor but our realistic expectations weren't that much higher.
Although we've lost some good players we may just have a striker or two that score goals at this level. Some at the game yesterday also saw promising signs in our other new players.
As I said before I'd like to at least see what he can do in the next few games with these new signings. We weren't far off yesterday against a Wigan team with a sub bench featuring players that would probably walk into our side.
I just hope RD either backs or sacks asap - not fair to leave CP in limbo. CP certainly isn't the best manager in the world but recent events have certainly not helped him in terms of squad changes. Think the owner needs to be straight with him so we can all move on.

How do we know RD hasn't backed him? If the club release a statement it'll be "the dreaded vote of confidence" and talk will start that he has a few games to save his job.
If i was a chairman/owner, i'd want a manager the fans love - it buys everybody time. I'd also look at previous evidence which shows he can do it. I would want him to explain his tactics though after a game like Saturday and expect a good explanation. This is an honest view from a Powell fan, so I expect this is the very least RD has done. I think Powell needs a couple of players to come in on loan of the right quality quick and it has to turn round just as quick as he is satrting to live on borrowed time I suspect.
Powell has dealt with zero investment and a significantly reduced squad in quality and number than last year and cut his cloth accordingly, then had the takeover dragging on and on and is now part of an unknown stable of trans euro football clubs with unknown players coming in and his top assets sold, I think hes doing pretty good personally and he will get us out of this to boot...
If he is in line with this continental/moneyball way of running a football club, I will be surprised. IMO he's working out his contract.
It would suit the owners to bring in their coach in the summer. There will be less grief while we are all watching the World Cup.
Moving Alnwick to force CP to play Charlie Caroli in goal is the clearest indication that RD is gonna do it his way. It's following the same pattern as Standard Liege. And before anyone points out his method has worked there, the Belgian League is totally different. It's like comparing the Scottish League to England.
The atmosphere on Twitter is very different -'A lot of support for Chris Powell & team on Twitter today. I think #cafc fans realise they are needed. I expect a big atmosphere Saturday.'
It's time for Roland to do the decent thing - either pay SCP and team off and bring in his own yes-men or back them with renewed contracts. This limbo is a nonsense and disgrace and shows no more integrity than the previous regime. "Waiting and seeing" is an abdication of management by RD, who seems to be so decisive in other ways.

I can't blame RD for not offerring CP a new contract why should he...?
He's inherited CP as a manager, it's not his fault that the former management team allowed for many first team contracts and that of CP's to run down.
He's bought a club which find themselves in a relegation fight and since taking over he is yet to see the team record a league win so why would he be rushing to offer CP a contract?
The blame and the situation lies fully with TJ, MS and KC...

And Richard Murray, surely? He must have been involved somewhere.
The one and only season Powell had a setlled team and squad he won a league title. Say no more.
One could argue that with the backing he had we blooming well should have done. Curbs is an example of truly great managers overachieving relative to budget.

The Sheffield clubs, Preston & Huddersfield all had higher wage bills iirc, and last season we were 17th in terms of wage bill and probably lower in terms of transfer fees.

With the hand picked squad he had it was not exactly a tough task was it?

It could be argued that his job was even more difficult due to the drastic changes that the team went through during the close season. It's not easy to get a team of new recruits to gel together and go on to win a title at their first attempt.
Let us also remember that both Sheffield teams finished with 90 and 93 points, any normal season that would have been enough to see both teams promoted, with one of them winning the league. It's a great achievement for any team to win a league with over 100 points, even more so when you take into account that Powell did it as a brand new manager with a completely new team who had never played with each other before.
Success is about more than just hand picking a squad.
Totally agree it's more than just hand picking a squad that's why he's not doing it now? Plenty of managers would have won league 1 with the squad we had?
I am fed up with debating this question now. Lets give this legendary player and lovely fellow a break. It won't matter what we think or say, Roland rules !
