  • Do you remember that Sheff Utd game where we sat there knowing that Pardew was finished ?

We are at home to Brum next.

never been a CP walks on water or a CP is dog kak-------------i think he has lost confidence in him self. Not surprising giving the last owners or what maybe happening with RD (may i said).

Today sounds like he was desperate to get something out of the game hence the defensive bollox. It should have been a go for it game--nothing to loose and everything to gain if he gambled.

Pritchard ? why FFS CP why ?

I think he will walk or be sacked if we do not WIN against Brum --i think he knows it.

The new guy gets the game against the massives to find out who the players are and 18 games to keep us up--------------i think we do know the new guy it will be Paul Hart until the end of the season.

Does the cup keep us up then??

I assume you weren't celebrating them then? They matter because they have some influence over confidence etc, and if you're building a case for the prosecution, at least doing using true facts and not selective statistics.
  • Can you see him getting that chance
  • the prosecution. lol

Quite frankly I think SCP has the Birmingham game. Lose that and curtains. Such a damn shame but that match is now going to be season defining.

He's on very thin ice one way or another. Anything except a win next week and he's gone, rightly or wrongly, jump, pushed or sort of fall sideways accidentally, he'll be gone.

He won't be here next season, wouldn't surprise me if Roland already had someone (we've never heard of) lined up.

I love Powell but his strength is picking a team full of players, getting a great team spirit and fighting for the cause. CP does make quite a few tactical mistakes which is particularly exposed when there is a lack of quality in the team. CP is a manager and not the coach and RD wants his players to play so that he can increase their market value whether it is the right thing to do or not. RD wants a coach who understands that he calls the shots and if he says a player plays then they play. This is a tough situation for CP and given that his contract will not be renewed then it would be better to get on with the change. I can't see CP prospering in this situation. IMHO RD has another coach lined up already and CP is on a hiding to nothing.

Maybe a new coach will encourage RD to get in a better midfielder that will give them a chance and that will be the price of them running a team that is in a dire position. RD is only just started a complete transformation and I would prefer him to get on with it and not see a great Charlton icon suffer.

I only hope that CP is still there for the next home game so that everyone give a good fairwell and thanks.

  • I did celebrate the wins but it's still not gonna keep us in this division is it.but if Powell gets the sack I take full responsibility for starting this thread I apologise in advance

I think you can rest easy in the knowledge that you starting this thread will have no bearing on any decision that is made with regards to the manager's future!
  • Anyone would think I'm Rd the way this bloke keeps having a pop

  • I'm a SCP fan but if it was someone else, based on results, most of us would want him gone and would probably have been sacked by now.

Sadly, no room for sentimentality in football. I hope we turn this around quickly, making this conversation irrelevant. Otherwise....

You have got it right there Darty. Parkinson got dogs abuse for something similar. I like Powell as a human being but being a club legend shouldn't come into it. Football Managers are judged on results and we have won five league games. Unless results improve I am afraid that Powell will go.

  • I too think he will get sacked , probably before the Birmingham game , but considering the spine of the team has been sold beneath him and he has been handed a bunch of Liege rejects , it will be extremely harsh.
  • You won't find a better man manager than CP and only total idiots would give that up. What he needs is a sparring partner who is an old experienced hand at tactics. At the mo. we seem to have an o'er cosy partnership where CP and AD have similar views. I would keep both of them as they are both invaluable for team effort but I would bring in someone who will challenge their decisions more and put a contrary point of view.
  • Like I said I think he will be a top manager in time but he has been up against it probably from the start
  • Sacked.

Just get on with it. Clearly not gonna walk and clearly not part of the long term plan so put everyone out of their misery, bring in Johnny Foreigner and let's see this bright new world that so many claim Powell is holding us back from.
  • I would almost rather he walks with his dignity intact. As much as I think a change is our only chance, i still don't think he deserves a sacking on his cv
  • I don't think Powell is holding us back I think he wants to take us forward as he's said before it's his club but with his hands tied what can he do

How do you come to that conclusion though? How do you know that they don't constantly challenge and question each other? Maybe that's what Powell likes about him? I don't know, but unless you've spent time with them both on the training ground then you've just made a complete guess based on the fact they are pals.

What he really needs is backing from the owner.
  • Winning 1 game in 11 doesn't help him no matter what thread I or anybody says

We are staring into the abyss. 5/27 is crap. If we stick with CP we accept FL1 as almost a given. Keeping CP means we are reliant on those around us to bomb ie we will stay up by default.
Previous owners kept CP on as their priority was to offload the club. A new broom can surely do no worse than the current managerial team who have long since run out of gas.

  • If we're gonna sack him, please have someone good lined up and nobody from belgium

  • No doubt in my mind that Roland is going to sack him.

Why do I say that? Becuase I watched them both very carefully in a joint Q & A session and their mindsets were very similar. IMO that's why Alex was chosen. If I'm way off beam, then I apologise.

  • Assuming that RD wasn't there today but that he watches DVDs of our games, what the hell will he think after watching the last 2 league games?

    1. This guy seems pretty good
    2. This guys tactics are awful, i have never seen such negative football
  • Quite frankly I think SCP has the Birmingham game. Lose that and curtains. Such a damn shame but that match is now going to be season defining.

If we don't put on a good performance against Brum the North Stand will turn. Flask brigade around me in the upper west may even twitch. We probably now need a miracle worker. CP just hasen't got tactical nous. Thought he had learnt from last season but apparent early on he was out of his depth & unable to impact on games whatever the position at the time.

  • A new broom can surely do no worse than the current managerial team who have long since run out of gas.

Of course they could do worse. I'm not denying the fact that a new management team could improve results, but they could also further weaken the dressing room and lead us down.

I think it's a very sad state of affaires to know that our managers will not be building their own teams whilst Roland is in charge. I find it hard to see the positives in that.
  • I hope he stays, I also hoped Stevens and Yann were going to stay. Very disappointed that little effort was made to keep them.
I'm sure these new signings are RD's rather than his. For example we already had 2 capable keepers. Why bring in a French guy
for World Cup? practice? We clearly need a good midfield player to replace Dale, Gower or Hughes are finished. Oh for last season which ended up on a high. Never ever expected this shambles! How do we expect to stay up when we lose to of our best players and the other 2 are injured. Expect to see Morro and Cousins leave close season to better clubs, can't blame them!
  • 3 home league games this month. 6/7 points required or it will be a bridge too far.

No apology necessary, I have to say that I genuinely don't know what their relationship is like. You could well be right. What I do I think, however, is that there has been enough forcing things onto Powell under the new regime already!
  • I really cannot understand the speed with which some people are ready to stab him in the back. He put a team out today having had awful turmoil all around him and no one gives him credit for that? I am so glad my employer isn't as fickle as some fans.

Who is stabbing him in the back? I understand what he has had to put up with. I have backed him, but there comes a time when enough is enough. It seems to me that he is a dead man walking.
