On the train back now . Fans are not happy . I think this highlights Ricks comments on nobody is steering the ship at the moment . There better be a good explanation as to why this wasn't called off yesterday . Still fuming .
It's a little scary that it is the drainage that is broken, who knows how long it will take for the pitch to dry some, and small amounts of rain will probably make it unplayable fast. Did TJ and MS know about the drainage in the offseason? I wonder how much the cost is for a complete field of turf together with the repairment
I only live in Blackheath and husband checked before leaving , did not even know there is a possibility that it would be off, lovely sunny day. Fans who travel distance and Barnsley fans must be furious - completely understandably
What an embarrasing moment for the club this is. Just heard the barnsley chief executive talk. Said there was no way the game could have been on today and could have easily called it off yesterday but charlton refused to get an official out to inspect it .
Someone from the club deserves the sack over this, absolutely pathetic
Clues in the name. The Valley. And that where water will drain to. May be if the club had spent a bit of money on the pitch in the good times we might not be postponing game after game. The bright side, we wont lose today and i quite like midweek games.
Does anyone know the official line in a situation like this? Fines? Points deductions? As much as I'd hate to see it I think a default 0-3 loss would be fair today.
wtf are you on about a 0-3 loss, a fine maybe yes but until we know what the clubs roll in it was then not even that
we played in sand at Chelsea we have played in floods at Yeovil, its the ref who called it off and that's his right, a different ref may have deemed it playable
THIS. Some on here need to get a bit of perspective. The game was allegedly s called off as the pitch is a bit heavy.......can't see what is wrong with that. Unless there is standing water on the pitch which makes the ball stop dead then I can't see why a game should be called off & probably what the ground staff thought.
Try having a look at some old videos from the 70's.......proper mud baths then.
Maybee off it u didn't have to set off at 10 for this And now have a 2 and half hour drive back! U must only have a ten minute walk so it doesn't affect U financially for a wasted trip?

The game gets rearranged. No need to go mad with the drastic vibe
That's assuming this isn't a one off, the pitch is getting worse and home fixtures become unviable. Chill bud.
whatever our staff thought of the pitch condition because of the recent issuea you wiuld have thought a pitch inspectuon late yesterday or early thismorning as a precaution would have been prudent. what was there to lose. tj must take the lions share of the blame but murray isnt beyond reproach either. gonna take a fair bit to rectify maybe more than rd envisaged
This article in Feb now looks ridiculous.. ''Live the Dream'', indeed! Wet dream perhaps?
Fans and corporate clients can book the Valley pitch Playing on a professional football club's pitch is a dream for supporters and corporate clients alike - and now Charlton are taking bookings for this season's pitch-hire period at The Valley. A variety of packages are available from May 6th-26th to enable companies, teams and supporters to take to the hallowed Valley turf this summer. The Valley can be hired for a corporate event, an inter-company match with colleagues or a charity day - or you can hire the pitch to live the dream by staging a game with your friends! The cost of pitch hire includes: * Full use of the Valley pitch
So how long does it take to get a new drainage system installed and is it worth getting the Oxford game moved to an away fixture and postponing the next x amount of home games now?
Whole pitch has to be dug up and relaid as far as I know - not something you should do mid-season. Maybe we have to consider a ground-share until the end of the season???
Well with only one more home game this month (that'll be postponed anyway if we get to the next round of the cup) and only two in February, it's now or never.... or in the summer.
Just realised that 22nd Feb is most likely 5th round day so another possible postponement. 2/3 of the next two months home league games.
Another wasted train ticket and journey here to add to the pile. Whatever has gone on today, there is simply no excuse for the idiotic statement that the club released saying game on, no probs. Like others have said the pitch would only have got better under a dome since yesterday. People have travelled based on yesterday's statement. The official club statement will be interesting and I think heads will roll off the back of this. But if that does happen, the total muppet who decided to make yesterday's statement needs to be first in line
Lol. Don't rememner Wallsall getting a 3 point fine a couple of years ago when the game was cancelled just as I arrived. Disappointing of course but if you want to blame anyone then blame Murrey for not investing more in t when we had cash in the PL days.

As NLA is suggesting, it is the referees decision.
There would be 2 teams all ready and prepared to play. Especially when we've already played on the pitch in worse condition this season.
..and talk of all the blame lying at the feet of the outgoing board seem to contradict what the deputy groundsman said on the cafc site.
''With the state of the pitch becoming a growing concern, Deputy Head Groundsman Nathan Chapman discussed the options to return it to optimum condition.
Chapman revealed the Valley pitch's woes of late are attributed to a partial collapse of its drainage system which cannot be rectified until the end of the current campaign.
“We're in this predicament because the pitch hasn't had any sufficient drainage work done on it for the past 16 or 17 years," he said.''
We've had a dome on the pitch all week and looking at some of the pics on twitter the pitch looks absolutely fine and the club obviously thought so too which is why they felt a pitch inspection wasn't necessary. I suspect this is just a very bad call by the ref.
Fixture congestion with this and the FA Cup could cost us come the end of the season Never said this before but hope we lose Tuesday could do without FA Cup such a small squad

said it on the Oxford thread the fa cup will be delayed this year as we wont have played our 3rd tie until cup final day
Why so late in calling game off and ask for a refund to all who travelled keep your train tickets ;-))
