  • Chrsit. I nearly came down from Cornwall. Thats £300 I can spend freely knowing I just saved it. Sorry for Barnsley fans. Especially the ones who have booked hotels at exorbitant local prices.

If people want to get embarrassed about a bit of grass then I can't stop them.

Think I'll leave you all to wallow.

Bored are we Off it - fancy and afternoon of being a Wum ? Give it a rest .
    What you on about?

So the games off. It's disappointing - particularly if you brought your long lens down and you've got nothing to snap - but some of the comments on here are laughable.

If you think that's me being a WUM then you need to get out more. Go to Greenwich, plenty to snap there.
I see you made the effort . Prick
    Nice abuse.
Brought it on yourself with the wind up mate.

Wind up or just attention seeking?

  • i blame the Sporting Director ;-)

We aren't a championship level club

Oh behave and get some fucking perspective!
Not sure why you are so dismissive of this. As others have said the club should have been more forthcoming to the fans of both teams that the game was at least in some doubt. People have wasted a lot of money, time and effort and it's just not acceptable on any level. In addition to the obvious frustration of today I believe this pitch debacle could entirely feck up our season. In a relegation battle we don't need a fixture pile up putting even more pressure on.

    "We aren't a Championship club". That's a ridiculous comment. That's what I' dismissing.

We all know there are serious problems with the pitch which need to be addressed and resolved, but that takes time, especially when you are halfway through a season and in the middle of winter.

Anyway, I appear to be in a minority, winding people up unintentionally and getting abuse into the bargain so fuck it, I'm off and will leave you lot to put the world to rights.
  • How bad is the drainage system?? The local park isn't waterlogged or in a bad state and that's been uncovered! Also, regardless of the referee's decision, has no one from the club had a look at the pitch this week? Although the PR suggests otherwise, someone from within must have anticipated this potentially happening? It's beyond belief....

Is there more rain forecast over the coming weeks? That coupled with the prospect of the drainage not being sorted until the end of the season means there'll be plenty more postponements to come......
  • I can only assume its the water table that is causing the problem rather than rain from above. The Thames hasn't reached its peak yet. Who knows what water draining down towards the Thames is doing.
  • And Roland Duchatelet is a proponent of plastic pitches. Hard to see the opposition making a strong case after all this.

It's not laughable, it is a ridiculous farce that considering the problems there have been, the first we are notified of an issue when we are playing a team from 250 miles away is two hours before ko, and its off.

Don't ever car share to a game in AFKA's motor or he'll stitch you right up for petrol money!

    250 miles! ;-)
  • on a brighter note we could have a better team to field next week than this,

wait for the statement before we lamblast the club
  • And Roland Duchatelet is a proponent of plastic pitches. Hard to see the opposition making a strong case after all this.

Wouldn't surprise me if he would use it as a good reason to have a plastic pitch, rather than investing in the drainage system...

  • I couldn't make the game today so I supposed I ought to be pleased in a way , but I think this is a complete joke and I fear that the club could be heavily fined for this. It is also very unfair on the Barnsley fans in particular who would be well on the way to the game as would many of ours with distance to travel. If there was any doubt about the game taking place the pitch should have been looked at first thing this morning if not last night. Something has to be done about this pitch now, it is becoming a laughing stock of the league.

So how long does it take to get a new drainage system installed and is it worth getting the Oxford game moved to an away fixture and postponing the next x amount of home games now?

Whole pitch has to be dug up and relaid as far as I know - not something you should do mid-season. Maybe we have to consider a ground-share until the end of the season???
Well with only one more home game this month (that'll be postponed anyway if we get to the next round of the cup) and only two in February, it's now or never.... or in the summer.
  • Does anyone know the official line in a situation like this? Fines? Points deductions? As much as I'd hate to see it I think a default 0-3 loss would be fair today.

200 miles then. Well worth highlighting
  • This is a joke, the club would have known yesterday. Had enough of defending the groundsman when in fact the pitch was awful last season they knew about the fault in the drainage system but instead thought they could get away it. Pathetic

I very much doubt "they" includes Paddy Powell. It is "they" who set the budget who should be held accountable, but unfortunately, they've just left

  • I only got my train ticket last night @ £33. If there had been any indication other than the game would be on this week I wouldn't have got my match ticket sent through and left it until today to make a decision. So yeah I could have saved that element of my loss but I like my usual seat.

I know it's difficult as they have to balance our and Barnsleys travel plans with giving the game the best chance of going ahead but, seriously, they must have had an inclination before 13:00 it wasn't going ahead.

The game gets rearranged. No need to go mad with the drastic vibe
  • Seriously enraged here. Would take an astroturf pitch over this right now. They've had years to sort this out. Years!
  • I think we need to get this guy in, as quick as possible...

wtf are you on about a 0-3 loss, a fine maybe yes but until we know what the clubs roll in it was then not even that

we played in sand at Chelsea we have played in floods at Yeovil, its the ref who called it off and that's his right, a different ref may have deemed it playable

I think that would be fair unfortunately.

Oakwell to the Valley approx 187m.

I'm not busy. I wasn't going today but I plan to go on Tuesday. From a selfish point of view it's another evening game which I prefer but not much consolation to the like s of Beds et al though.
  • We are turning into a joke of a football club
  • Lets see how great our club is by offering Barnsley refunded travel or any of us?
If any other championship club had pitch issues I could understand?
Even all the non league are ok today!!
Total disgrace on the warmest sunny dry day possible!
This has now become a total joke
  • We are turning into a joke of a football club

    Well and truly snookered.
  • The Lib have just started disco for any punters still knocking about the Valley area !
  • Reported on R5 Live: reason for postponement is that "surface water makes the pitch unplayable". I'm still waiting for a good reason why this couldn't have been decided earlier to save on supporters' time and expense...
