Danny Wilson saying on there website that the game was rightly called off but the club had no information saying there might be a problem with the pitch.Seems like there blaming us
Well he's right , I think everyone would not be going so mad about it if the club had put the word out that there was a potential for the game to be called off And then put in place an inspection yesterday or this morning and even if the game was called off like it was at 1.30pm everyone would not feel so bad cos the warning signs were there And the punters who were ummming and aaaaaaahing whether to go or not could have less complaints about what happened cos they were told it may get called off And all those who had 1-1.5 hr journeys mAy have held off It's not rocket science it's common sense
but it probably looked ok yesterday so an inspection then would be pointless. it was the rain over night and lack of drains that would have left those puddles. that isn't to say that someone could have communicated a problem this morning. but the talk of doing a pitch inspection yesterday is a bit of a red herring. t
They predicted rain again last night so why not put the dome back over the pitch...!?
Don't know what the forecast was for last night in SE7 but the club can still say that an overnight downpour could put the game in doubt because the dome is not in place ... And then early morning once the rain overnight appeared called a local ref in or mentioned the game is in doubt ... Just simple communication even if the game is still only called off late doors ,as it was, would make the whole situation easier to take if people knew there was a doubt
If it's true that the dome was sent back on Thursday, then we have wasted any benefit of having it there at all. Penny pinching and false economy at it's worst.
According to the website they will be putting the dome back up tomorrow night when rain is forecast so it doesn't seem it's gone.
He continued: “I have to decide whether the pitch is playable, and the answer is no. If you plant your feet you expect to be able to move them but when you turn they get stuck. And that's dangerous.”
Fair enough. Not simply about the ball not bouncing/rolling. Can't argue with the reason for his decision.
If Barnsley knew there was a problem at 11.35 why weren't supporters warned.
The forecast has been for heavy overnight rain Fri-Sat all week. Why the hell was the dome taken down?
Surely there would have been time to take it down this am?
Dress it up all you want, but we are going to come out of this looking a 2 bob shambles.
What this is effectively saying is if we have any rain in the build up to a game for the forseeable that game will be in danger of a late postponement.
I repeat what I said earlier, someone needs to be held accountable.
It's not just the lack of communication though is it. Some serious misjudgement has been made in even thinking that this was going to go ahead and allowing things to drift on for as long as they did. I think Danny Wilson's comments will be key to this. If he thinks it shouldn't have gone ahead then I think it will speak volumes as to Charltons amateur handling of this.
The lack of any comment from the club in the story on our official site is very noticeable, especially in the light of the Barnsley Chairman's comments.
Don't think the club are going to come out of this too well. For them not to communicate a pitch inspection until 12.50pm when it was known a good hour beforehand is unforgivable
The club admit in that story that they knew before midday that the game was in doubt. Nothing was said until 12.50. I'm pretty sure that a large number might have been spared a wasted journey if something had been said at midday.
Reading between the lines with the news that a further inspection will be held Monday, I'd say that it is pretty much a given that Tuesday will be off as well.
Barnsley will, quite rightly, complain to the FA and |I suspect Roland will be writing a cheque to pay for a pretty hefty fine.
Fortunately my wife called me en route to Charlton and I was only 10 minutes into my journey. I feel sorry for others who had already made long trips and the away support too.
How long does it take to get the dome up and then off? Could we have left it on until this morning? It is an embarrassing scenario today.
Another concern is that it's another week that our players aren't getting a match. Their match sharpness will be lessened I'm sure for all of this. And for this who say that at least they're getting rested after a busy Christmas schedule, well the other side of the coin is that we are going to have a fixture pile up further into the season. How might that affect us if we are still in a relegation dog-fight then? I pray we use this transfer window to best effect!
If someone thought the pitch was playable yesterday - and you'd hope an ex player in Paddy Powell could make that call - then there would be no need for an inspection yesterday.
If there was rain overnight and that made the difference then the drainage situation is surely unsustainable and we need to do something immediately, even if a workaround.
Pretty poor show all round though, no excuse for not getting a local ref to look at it at 9am after the rain. Have every sympathy with the Barnsley CEO.

really weather aint been to bad piss poor Charlton

Unless we postpone the next month of games and recreate the drainage system, this will always be an issue.

He's saying the Ref offered to carry out a pitch inspection yesterday and was turned down by the Club.
They will be complaining to the FL.
