  • Is it even possible the club is not going to make a statement today?
  • Is it even possible the club is not going to make a statement today?

Looks like it's been left to the gaffer....

  • Games over now. Still no word from the club.

Wow. You can sweat my asset if you think I'm coming to the game on Tuesday
  • I imagine the new Sporting Director is as we speak having someone strung up by the bollox.

My under 7s trained this morning on a school pitch, it was fine ok a little heavy but ok to play on, we are a pro club and the pitch is a disgrace , all this crap about safety reasons if it was rugby they would play as did my under 7s this morning wot a crock of shit.

Aren't you just disagreeing with yourself ?

    In wot way mr educated

I would like to add that this decision by the ref is absolutely outrageous. In future he should wait until we are 3-1 down before making the decision to abandon the game

Very good. Had a nice little chuckle at that.

Why do people keep saying they are embarrassed? Are you getting mixed up with 'annoyed'? I'm annoyed that the game's not on, but would rather that than another Doncaster. I get embarrassed if I trip over or if I have to stand up and talk in front of strangers. I don't get embarrassed if a referee calls my team's game off...I get annoyed.

We're embarrassed for the club! We've been ridiculed on Talksport
How have we been ridiculed on Talksport?
Every League One and Two game went ahead, every conference game went ahead - how can a Championship club not get the pitch playable! The club should be embarrassed!

Surely we're looking at fine from the league seeing as we cut costs at the beginning of the season rather than fix the issue? Especially after the state our pitch got in last season?

The club should be embarrassed, people look forward to the weekend and those poor Barnsley fans will have spent 8 hours in a coach for no reason!

The games were going ahead in Charlton Park ffs!

Well perhaps it's just the way I read it but you suggest that the pitch is a disgrace which implies it's not very good and possibly unplayable and yet you go on to say "all this crap about safety" and if it was rugby it would be played.

Btw. I doubt I'm more educated than you. Just more polite.

  • Last game today for Dave Archer. Shame his 17 great years had to end like this. Still, wouldn't happen at Ebbsfleet.

Could it be that the water that drained away from Charlton Park (because its at the top of the hill) has ended up in The Valley below ?

Shooters sorry mate must apologise just read it back , ok give yourself a leg up, wot i meant to say is ok the pitch is a disgrace but if young kids can play on bad pitches why cant pros by that i mean safety issues years ago we used to in any conditions .
  • The Dome was on all night and taken off this morning. Groundstaff thought it was better than the Sheff Wed game yesterday so they thought it was playable. That's all I know !
  • Hmmmm....seems it was the ground staff who decided an inspection wasn't required yesterday and are going to be hung out to dry for this one.

    http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/20140111-club-statement-1288017.aspx

Notice CP says "possible game" in reference to Oxford on Tuesday. They might as well call that off now.
  • In the summer the options on the table were 20k to do the minimum or 28k to fix the issues.

You know which option was taken.

Had a good drink in the Radical but would much rather be at the game. Sorry for those from both clubs who had to travel a long way.

Some over reactions but some sad WUM from off it also

Not right but the blame lies squarely with a regime that wouldn't pay for basic maintainance let alone improvements.

    Sort it out Kate

Sorry but the blame does not just lie with Jiminez however much some would like it to. £20k or £28k worth of maintenance does not occur over night.
  • It was only a coincidence that we got taken over a week ago - imagine how bad the pitch would be if matches are still getting postponed even with a newly acquired dome over it?

Maybe if the dome had been kept over the fuck up of a pitch last night , the game wouldn't have been called off

No it occurs over the close season in the summer months, which was when Paddy asked for the money and was told to do one.
  • The club statement clearly blames the ground staff. If true, they should be punished severely

This is the question that needs to be answered. The weather forecast has been the same all week.. Heavy overnight rain Fri - Sat. I just don't believe that the dome couldn't have come down early Saturday.
  • From Club statement "The ground staff did not deem it necessary to call in a match official to conduct a preliminary pitch inspection on the Friday prior to the game against the Tykes, as they were confident the surface was in a better condition than at a comparative stage before the recent matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Sheffield Wednesday."
There is an error of judgement here; either the referee or the Club!

Yet again must apologise feeling sentimental as millwall got beat.
  • This is where not having a CEO who asks the right questions of staff, blame the ground staff all you like, but Bradshaw is the operational boss at the club and should have been making the call

Palace bottom. Millwall still below us and Motherwell winning to cheer up Danny Baker :0)

  • Paddy's position looks very shaky at the moment. I hope they take into consideration his fantastic work over the years and the mitigating circumstances before they hang anyone out to dry

I would hope Richard Murray can sort that problem out.

  • Beds they can't dry a football pitch, let alone a human

Clem, what I would say to that is , were the Groundstaff asked by Senior Management if it needed inspecting ?
