One positive aspect of the game on Saturday, which I don't think has been made enough of, is the form of Ben Alnwick. He didn't have much to do in the way of stopping shots but when the crosses came in he was decisive and sure. It certainly makes a change to have some safe handling at the back instead of Hamer's dithering and fumbling. His distribution is a little lacking at the moment, although it was his smart release of the ball to Stewart which led to the first goal, but that can only improve with time.
  • Perhaps it is time for us to employ someone without connections to the club and who can take a step back & take a more subject view.

How's that approach working out at The Valley, do you think?
  • So you actually know what Alex Dyer does ......and that isn't enough

Or was he doing enough when we pissed league one and finished 9th last year

But this season cos we're shit he's had his feet up

Maybe he has - you can't live off the past in sport - we haven't invested and the coaching hasn't plugged the decline - therefore, he's not doing enough.

What an extremely 'simple' view on what a football coach does.
  • I've seen that written a few times on here recently. 'Living in the past'. It's basically a way of saying that despite your argument not holding water when actually given some balanced thought, you'll stick to a narrow-minded view. Blame Dyer for Hughes giving away a penalty and Church not scoring enough, why not. Still, at least we'll all be able to blame the Sodjes soon
  • we haven't invested and the coaching hasn't plugged the decline - therefore, he's not doing enough.

On that basis if we continue to not invest in the side you don't expect us to decline , you expect us to be able to standstill and hold our heads above water .....
personally i find that point of view odd really odd but then each to their own
  • It is a pathetic stance to ever blame the coach. How can you know what a coach does or doesn't do? It happened with Day under Curbishley. Some people just have to blame somebody!
  • how about andy hughes getting taken out before jacksons red,the game should of already been stopped

There's no doubt we had some bad luck at Yeovil but I do feel the experienced players let us down somewhat. Hughes giving away a penalty and Jackson's red card were both irresponsible decisions by people who should know better. Add the misfortune of an oggy and Cousins' injury and seems like we did well to get a point!

Does anyone know the extent of Cousins' injury?

But not kinsella under Parkinson or Parkinson under Pardew. There is always someone to blame if the manager is a legend tgen it has to be his assistant .... until he becomes management.

    What did Oggy do ?
    ;-)
  • I was there & was shocked our coaching team could not see what myself and my son could see throughout the game, all the threat came down their LH side, Wilson was forever exposed, quite why we had Stephens wide right for most of the game was a joke. Their left winger was classy and was rightly awarded their MoM. Yes we had a crazy 10 mins but this should have been addressed by our coaching staff. The OG came from their left winger crossing the ball & Hughes is just no longer good enough hence the stupid penalty. Solly was on the bench so obviously fit enough to play some part. When he eventually came on after the 2 goals and the sending off he played in front of Wilson, threat thereafter went away - its a simple game. Yes we can blame individuals but in my humble opinion our tactics are constantly being found out by the opposition this season and that's the real reason we are in for a relegation struggle this season. I am still miffed with the gutless Millwall no-show performance and how our team was not prepared properly to take an easy 3 points.
  • Dyer isn't even the first team coach, he's the assistant manager. His job is to do whatever Chris Powell wants him to do. Unless anybody knows what that is, it seems silly to criticise him for not doing it!

Is it not equally obvious that Solly was on the bench to ease him back in and that had he been fit to play all or most of the match and had that been a sensible thing to ask of him after 14 weeks out he'd have started the game anyway? I wasn't there but I didn't get the impression their goals were the culmination of a spell of pressure.

I don't suppose Chris Powell does get everything right, but things that look obvious to people from the stands quite often do so because they are unable to see the bigger picture - either they don't have all the information or overlook things which are inconvenient. If any manager has one hand tied behind his back he is likely to struggle and the main cause of our current situation is a reduction in funding leading to a weaker squad.

I guess so but there was an imbalance to the line up all match. Stephens, Cousins, Jackson, Stewart on the left. It weakened the contribution of Stephens and Wilson was left exposed for pretty much all the match. We looked dangerous on the break for the first 20 minutes of the second half and could have added to our tally. Green was the obvious choice as substitute to give us some width, particularly as they double teamed the marking on Stewart after the break. Having said that, it was great to see Chris Solly back on the pitch. And, despite the pain, a few days on, we did get a point!
