Seriously though, how many homosexuals were abused by this chanting ?
How about how many CAFC fans are embarrassed by this section of neanderthal wankers we have that think this sort of behaviour is acceptable? Classless inbred tossers the lot of 'em.
Is it ok to call people inbred then? That would offend my community.

Funnily enough, there is a song about that...............................
Let's face it does anyone really expect the FA to ban these chants? Even if they do how will they enforce it and what will the penalties be? UEFA fined the Spanish FA £16,000 at Euro 2012 for racist chants, a day later Nicklas Bendtner (excuse the pun) was fined £80,000 for wearing the wrong pair of pants.
Seems similar to the Spurs/Yid debate. I can see no short term solution here for those Brighton fans offended, why can't they make the chants their own and no doubt the chants would stop. Admittedly not the best solution, but certainly a more realistic one..?
People who are saying "we can see you holding hands" is homophobic need to get out of the dark ages. Men and women go to football nowadays. Plenty of homosexual and hetrosexual couples in the crowd holding hands I'm sure.
Not often you will hear me say this, but every one of the multiple posts in this thread by ''Henry Irving'' is spot on and I thank him for championing the human decency that I have always associated with CAFC.
On a different point, given all the prurient upskirt/cleavage pix of celebrities wth which the Daily Mail fills its pages, how pathetically hypocritical that in their report of the B&HAFC abuse, they can't bring themselves to print the offensive word ''shagged'' in a ''family'' newspaper and represent it as ''sh*gg*d''.
I expect to be slated for this, but why do derogatory chants have to be sung about anyone? I expect there will be the usual cries of 'banter', but wouldn't it be much nicer if everyone sang positive chants, that actually support their team rather than a load of vitriolic abuse?
Agree with this 100%.
In a perfect world though. It just ain't going to happen I'm afraid.

Are you and Sir Henry of Righteousness "special friends" ?
Arsenal, Charlton, Crystal Palace and Millwall fans have all been named in a report sent to the Football Association by Brighton supporters detailing incidents of homophobic abuse aimed at them.
The Seagulls are regularly the subject of taunts with the city of Brighton known for having a large gay community.
The Brighton and Hove Supporters Club (BHASC) and the Gay Football Supporters’ Network (GFSN) have compiled a dossier detailing the abuse, which they submitted to the FA on Tuesday.
It highlights incidents at home and away in Championship clashes with Millwall and Crystal Palace, plus further chants in a league game at Charlton and their FA Cup clash at home to Arsenal in January.
A joint statement from the BHASC and GFSN, on the BBC website, read: “It wouldn’t be described as ‘banter’ if the taunts and chants were about skin colour and something would have been done by now to stop it.
“Brighton & Hove Albion Supporters’ Club has spent over 15 years trying to get the authorities to take this regular abuse of one club’s fans seriously.
“We would like our fans to be able to go to games with kids or their grandparents and not hear much of the stuff we are subjected to - it’s our basic human right.
“Our campaigning with the help of the Football Supporters’ Federation has led to ‘homophobic abuse’ being included in the list of unacceptable behaviour in ground regulations, yet many clubs, their stewards and their fans do not seem to know what constitutes ‘homophobic abuse’.”
Gay Steve 33 from Southend, Gay Steve 33 from Southend, Ring any bells?
I have asked the gay Brighton fan in the main office if he was there last night
Yes he was
What did he think of our support
Very good but wondered why the stewards went in
On the subject of the complaint by bhafc and the GFSN
On the singing of we can see you holding hands
He said its about as effing stupid a thing to report you are pissed off with as it is no more abusive of phobic of any kind than you fat bastard the referee is a wanker you dirty northern bastard or sheep shaggers
All what he has sang at opposing teams , fans , mgmt and referees this season
He also said that if people want to look for real homphobic abuse then deal with the pricks that sing
Do you F**k your son Aids ridden bastards Town full of faggots Etc
But the minute you make football so sterile that you can not call fat people fat bastards, a referee a wanka
A northern person a northern wanka
Then football is screwed
He also said its like a black person screaming the race card for no reason it detracts from the real abuse and it automatically makes normal people think why are you making a big deal out of nothing and you lose the support of the normal man and woman
So there you go he is gay he is someone I have known for ten years and been to matches with ( without sounding like PDC )
If he thinks that singing we can see you holding hands is banter due to it being aimed at the area not the individual In an abusive way
I also said why do you live in Brighton and surprisingly or not he said because it has a great gay community probably one of the best and it's where lots of gay people live
Now he never said there's more gays in Brighton than anywhere else but he did say there are a lot more open gays in Brighton than a lot of other areas known for gay people
@sparrows lane lion. I rarely sit in the north stand and on away days I don't really chant stuff I find stupid or offensive. As for chants about the opposition supporters like build a bonfire I don't care because it's not really what makes them who they are.
We both now that deep down personal stuff like sexuality race or religion should be left alone. Its not tricky to work out what is on and what is not.
Some people on here give themselves away with questions like how is it offensive to say they are holding hands. If those people didn't find it offensive to their belief about what is right they wouldn't ever think it worth taking the piss out of. I'm charlton I'm just not in the subset that includes charlton and idiot thankfully.
Homophobia aside, I think if I were a Brighton fan I'd be absolutely bloody bored out of my head hearing the same rubbish and unoriginal chants from opposing fans at every single game I go to.
Maybe a bit strong to say anyone who asks how is it homophobic as I hadn't read all the posts but there are enough that obviously have" issues "on here .
We definitely need to have some back and forth between the fans or it would be seriously dull. It would be good to keep it on a decent level though. The lisbie and Adams family chants are not for example.
The gay fans views are fine but it's still just one person and as a straight person I know for sure my lefty pc mail and guardian reading views are very different from some on here. Thankfully. Do I need someone who is the target of abuse to tell me if something is offensive ? And by reporting it someone already has anyway

Fair few of them on here.....
Is there something you want to tell us?
If someone shouted "your straight and you know you are!" at me, would that be homostraightist? Get over yourselves!

I'm not being funny but my mates batting for that side and he thinks its hilarious.
They're just being tetchy little girls about it ;o)
Couldn't agree more!
And... smile :-)
This thread is a real hum dinger. And not in a good way.

It's aimed at the demographic of the area not individuals
But I spose there is no northern ism
Fatism
Etc
It's banter
No to call someone a filthy poof or a dirty faggot
A Peado
That's homophobic that's that is not banter
I can see you holding hands is not homophobic it may be deemed as not banter by some but it is by no way homphobic
