  • We do love a moan about our own.
  • Pink Lawyers group are on the case

no such thing as PC its all the Daily Mail making it up----latest Labour bollox

    Well there's a surprise.
  • All jokes aside I think Brighton should wear a pink kit next season to embrace homosexuality and maybe quell homophobia

There was a period last night where people were singing "you take it up the arse". Lasted about 5-10 minutes. I didn't hear anything else. As it was behind me I've no idea if that was what the stewards were responding to when they were trying to get someone out. I think the Brighton fans have a point, even if people here do think it is just banter, they are saying it's not. If someone tells me I'm doing something they find offensive, I'd need a good reason to carry on. Banter is not a good reason.

Spot on. I consider a insult hurled at my team in general to be banter, like the (pretty lame) Millwall "Charlton Athletic, we laughing at you" chant, or "youre sh*t and you know you are" and so on. Chants like those dont make a point of emphasising race or sexual orientation, so its hard to be really offended. Thats banter....

Robbie Elliot wore pink for Charlton.

Charlton fan in "moan about other Charlton fans" shocker

    This
  • Banter, the idiots excuse for being an idiot
  • from the site linked above I see these as offensive and unacceptable :

How would you feel if a group of fans asked if you 'passed your son around'

How would you explain to your son or daughter that you are not 'aids ridden scum'

Do you just laugh it off when you're asked 'if you take it up the arse' in front of your children?

I'm not surprised some of our fans sing these as for years they have been singing the 'incest' song and quite a few deem that acceptable and banter but it's no different really.
  • shocked by charlton fans moaning about charlton fans moaning about charlton fans.. not

Banter's supposed to be funny. Call me a killjoy, but I don't find 15 minutes of 'you take it up the arse' to be particularly clever or amusing. In fact, wherever it's sung, I think it makes us look like idiots to be honest.

    Well someone finds it amusing.

Not really, I find it odd.

Seriously though, how many homosexuals were abused by this chanting ?

If it was one its not ok.

My view; somethings are not PC they are just right.

Times change and so must we all. 1970s' sit coms so this.

Presumably we are all proud that we have been given the Community Club of the Year award yet thoughtless homophobic chanting by fans will tarnish our image as a club that cares for all the community. The Charlton team spends a lot of time, does a lot of good and builds a lot of good will through its community work. Don't spoil it.

  • The offensive singing was not heard in the upper west stand where i was. The only thing that caused comment from the Brighton fans around me was when "stand up if you hate Palace" was sung. They thought it very amusing.
  • If a player or a supporter is overweight is it now not allowed to sing "you fat bastard" at them?

  • Cardiff got that award bill
  • Oh and a Brighton supporting friend of mine tells me that when they beat Palace 3-0 recently the brighton fans were singing "we've just fcked you up the a7se"

    Odd that.
  • Oh, so everybody else is doing it as well? That must make it OK then...
  • Can give it but not take it obviously
  • Some people just don't get it do they?
