  • Now where's my season ticket renewal form? Should I bother? Why should I.how can you not be motivated for a local derby? Where the heck was Gower? Their 2 NEW signings made the difference..feel so sorry again for Morrison and Taylor.yet again the midfield disappeared.not happy but hey that's why I love this club.I havnt got grey hair through old age its because I support Charlton
  • Why is Powell being criticised for not playing gower when both of them said before the game that he wasn't going to be ready?

I will definitely buy but forms are on the table and I'm not rushing to fill them in. For me, it merely means a delay, for others they might not fill them in at all. It is good amount of money to pay for a product that has not provided much pleasure this season!
  • What the f*ck do we go for? To watch hoof ball and to "stay up" in the Championship? If that's all we aspire to what's the point?

Because to aim for the bigger picture of play offs and possible promotion you have to assert yourself in the league.

A view from my armchair .. we sign Gower, he does not get a place, even on the bench .. Millwall sign Chaplow and Easter, they are the men who turned the game.

Agree with you 101% mate. I was there in Lower West. Chaplow and Easter good loan signings, we get Obika (done nothing to impress me) and an unfit Gower. Have Millwall got a load more money than us, not by their crowd size. Week after week Pritchard and Wilson do nothing. Stephens has one nightmare and is dropped. Next home game surely play Hamer, Stephens and Gower. IMO Jackson was the only midfield player trying. This home form cannot keep on being acceptable!

Millwall may not have a load of money by crowd size but i suspect their wage bill could be lower and they certainly would have made a good load from thier cup run.

Thought Pritch was very busy yesterday and nowhere near as pointless as Wilson, although he gave away a stupid foul for the freekick which led to the goal and got a stupid yellow for it.
  • Pritch had a good game but he needs to improve his finishing and (whilst not an issue yesterday) needs to be a bit stronger in the challenge sometimes. Address those two and he will be some player.
  • Wasn't at the game but watched it via my laptop. Can't really add anything to what has already been said as regards the performance (cept I thought we did show some fight and we were the better side til they scored).

Would like to say that I thought Harriott looks like he has potential to be half decent.

Plus the pitch is a disgrace. I see pub teams playing on better surfaces.
  • i think Chris Powell has made poor loan signings this year, most are 30+years old with no hunger left in there bellies.Millwall dont pay good wages but seem to get more out of there players, and if it wasnt for there manager they would be back in div1.Just dont think sir Chris will ever quite cut it

There weren't many Spanners agreeing with you wheN they lost 5-1 at home to Posh the other week. They turn on Jackett in a heartbeat.
  • I wouldn't get too carried away about Jermain Easter being a great loan signing. He's an average player with an average scoring record and doubt he'll get too many gifts like yesterday-I wouldn't expect him to score too many more for them.

I agree, he seemed to be the only one getting the ball all the time. And when Pritch is the only one trying to make things happen, you know you are in trouble. Oh and his finishing us dire. He never seems to hit the target. He has so much energy and fight I love him, he does just lack that bit of quality.

  • If we would have got the first, I think we would have got more. They we definitely there for the taking as Palace were at Sellout - although we got one there we failed to capitalise on some excellent chances in that game. Yesterday, we were rubbish with our decision making in the final third though and when we did get through, poor execution and good defending from Shittu and their keeper Forde kept us at bay. Also felt we had a couple of penalty shouts, but we don't seem to get those at the Valley.

If you don't take your chances and you allow opponents to stay in the game, at this level they hurt you. We need a striker who can get 20+ a season for starters - I think that would make a massive difference. Only way we are going to get that is by hoping one of our younger players is he, as we don't have the dosh to buy one.

Sorry if I sound very basic, but I feel it's fitting after another typical home performance. Reminded me of the last days of Andy Nelson as manager. Les Berry Phil Warman, big boot up field, no midfield, on a playing surface that resembled a pile of shit. If this is the shape we are going to play Powell might as well follow the old route of the old firm Crazy-Gang 4-2-4 and find some less gutless players with psycho tendencies.
Also to add - If that was playing well first half - God help us.

He don't need to, what he done in the first 5 seconds coming on is enough
  • Just seen the goals again. Button should be saving both of those.
  • Confused by Powell's decision not to have Gower at least on the bench. He was deemed fit enough by Swansea to being on there bench last Saturday so why not ours yesterday? They played both there loan signings who both had an impact on the game.

Exactly you cannot be on the bench for a premeirship game the week before and not be ready for this game unless your injured. gotta wonder what goes on sometimes.

Hang around Mat pal, I'm sure the rose tinted brigade will tell us. : /
  • I suppose my take on the Gower situation is that we should have been getting a match ready player on loan not someone who needs time to get match fit and then will take a couple of matches to get bedded in. So the 9 match loan effectively is a 6 match loan, whereas Millwall get two loan players who fit straight into the squad. Is this simply down to budget?

I also have the view that if we have a loan player, unless he is a development player like Matt Fry, they should come in as first choice, especially if we are paying good money for them. This season we have failed on the loan system.

But if he is no un-match fit, what was he doing on Swansea's bench last Saturday?
  • Pointless going on about "lazy" Haynes or "disinterested" Fuller - they are the equal of most in this league.
    They get no decent service.
A total lack of guile and invention is doing for us at home.
Unfortunately the opportunities that did come our way today seemed to fall to others, who lacked composure or belief.
Enjoyed our fans taking the piss out of theirs - didn't think their lot woke up until they scored.
51 years and I cannot actually remember if i've ever seen us beat them. I wasn't at the Morts in the snow game.
So utterly predictable I can't get worked up about it anymore

You need to start watching the Football League Show a bit more if you think any of our strikers let alone Haynes and Fuller are equal to the likes of Wood, Murray, Nugent, Austin, Vydra Etc.

Well, what I said was they are the equal of most - I don't need to watch 2 minutes of highlights to know you've picked out the ones at the top of the scoring charts.
I stick by what I said - it's down to service (and of course confidence and momentum builds when you are getting the chances and tucking them away).
Murray for one must feel like all his Christmases have come at once with the service he is getting this season.

  • I think with the size of benches nowadays (is it 7 players) that sometimes players are on it and have zero chance of getting on and are there to make the numbers up .... I'm guessing that's what Gowers appearance on Swansea's bench was ,possibly good for twenty mins at most ... Who knows

I liked Yann and thought he did well enough yesterday.

Was always busy and was very effective with his back to goal.

    Just changed one word there!

30% chance of relegation - I don't think so ... not with our away form :)

What is wrong at home? I saw the highlights last night and we looked good... Yann's free kick only just wrong side of the post... Wilson missed and at same time Yann was being dragged down for a pen

What is really wrong? We are going in the wrong direction! We achieved the goal of mid table some months ago and there is a lack of ambition / cash. January was clearly the time to step up... CP could/should have been demanding resource... the board need to fund it!

I don't know enough about todays transfer market, coaching or technically what the gap is between CAFC and one of the top nine but I don't think it is that much. The first team are definitely not League 1 - they were champions and have spent most of this season in 11th-15th position. I am not going to call out individuals but I am sure the management team know exactly how to secure the points for survival.

Completely different question is will they get the funds to step up? I thank the board for investing in a new squad 18 months back but that was then. If they do not have the appetite or hard cash to push the club on then best they hand over the BATON to someone who does!

The Gower signing might make more sense if it is with a view to offering him a deal for next season.
  • I'm amazed to find that I cannot believe the negative crap on here, and i am usually the one complaining on here. I came away happy that I had seen a spirited performance from a team that desparately needs decent coaching. CP is on a learning curve but should have started as assistant. He missed the fact in the first half that Morrison, with Taylor dealing well with their one man, Hulse, spent the half on his own in a big space with little to do. That gave us a chance to get one of the fullbacks forward, which they both do well.
Yes when we went two down, we folded, although I thought Jackson had a terrific game. Taylor lost concentration, and let Easter get a yard on him, enough to concede their fist goal. Game over.
If we can maintain our away form we should survive, but my guess is that maybe half of the current season ticket holders will not buy into the crap that we have had to watch at home this season. Action by the Directors is urgently required, but willit happen?
  • In the cold light of day, I'm not laying any blame at the feet of the players or management for yesterday's result. The pitch isn't conducive to playing any football whatsoever. In normal circumstances, some of our players would've burnt Shittu for pace but Haynes in particular and Harriott just seemed to be running on the spot and the ball just wouldn't roll. If we have any for money for investment the board should spend it on a decent modern piece of turf that isn't going to breakdown every time it rains.
  • Just seen the goals again. Button should be saving both of those.

Yeah, and Jacko should have closed down Chaplow and stopped the cross, Taylor lost his marking on Easter and Pritchard gave away a stupid free kick. You can't get away with sloppy defensive play at this level. As we have seen with Austin , Elliott, Murray & Geddo in recent weeks.

A lot of the goals we have conceded are deep into the second half. When as an individual you are playing at a level you are not comfortable with, you can get away with it in spells by working very hard, but you cant work at your maximum for the full 90 mins or back-to-back. That's why our results are inconsistent and we are losing late goals. Legs get heavy and concentration goes.

I hope Gower is the answer to our lack of guile in Central Midfield. If he is a strong continuity player then you can play a luxury player like Stephens alongside him in a 4-4-2.

Also, Millwall's Cup run has netted them an extra £1 mill in revenue, allowing them to bring in the likes of Chaplow & Easter. Pity we couldn't see the value of a good cup run by playing our first team in the 3rd Round.
  • To the directors, and to the supporters who criticise Chris Powell, can you tell me who would be likely to do a better job with similar resources, name a few names?
To those who think we're safe, well we're not. It is up to the management, players, and fans to try to get our club over the line to safety this season, and we're only going to do this together.
After the Boro debacle at home, it was the die hard loyal realistic and passionate faithful who turned up against Cardiff the following match, and to be fair there were only about 11-12 thousand of us. Those who attended the Cardiff game were not quitters, not quitters even at 0-2, everybody that night, fans and players both, took responsibility to try to get a job done, they were not looking for excuses, not looking for who to blame, not scapegoating, not digging out individual players, not falling out between themselves but trying and trying and trying again to help the situation.
All I can say right now is we should have a word with ourselves, there are eight matches left, we probably need eight points, we can throw in the towel, shrug and give up, or we can face up to the current situation, remind ourselves how much we have rather than how much we want, and use what we have to try to stay up. Time for analysis may well be in the close season.
To those who think there is not much ahead, well I don't agree, not least because the emergence of Calum Harriott recently gives me hope for the future that there may be others.
P.S. have to admit to being a pink and fluffy supporter and want Chris Powell to stay even if we're relegated.
  • Makes a lot of sense and hopefully Gower plus Stephens returning to form will enable us to either play a 4-5-1 or at least rotate the midfield before legs go. One bright spot is that Harriot is making the left wing spot his own.

This!!! its 2 years ago this month that we lost 2-0 at dagenham and redbridge, the kind of result that brought deep embarassment to the club and there was a faint danger we could slide into league 2. Powell toughened the side up for the run in and we managed to get a couple results that saw us finish mid-table league 1. Now if someoene told me we would be 15th in the championship with a decent chance of staying up and needing 5 points or so, i'd have snapped your hand off, laughed and said no chance at all.

Maybe last years success has brought unrealistic expectations, yes the home forms terrible, but we've not spent much, and our away results have compensated for the home results.. but it is noticeable that night vs cardiff we got behnd them, even at 2-0 down i heard a roar i hadnt heard in years.....we had been mauled by boro, but we did what Charlton do best and thats backing when our backs were against the wall. We MUST do the same to bsck the players to get them over the line, starting with the Bolton game, I expect a reaction from the players and a reaction in the crowd too....as NLA says have you got the balls!! Well all I know is I will be at Bolton, I will be at Brighton. and I will be singing until my voice resembles a 50 a day smoker! COYR!!!

Struggling to think of all these 30+ loanees? Apart from Gower who hasn't played yet and Hulse who done a decent job and is now i imagine one of Jackett's good loanees?
