Having waded quickly through 8 pages of comments. Thought Haynes did okay, but agree he could've left the pitch a bit quicker. We seemed to want to walk the ball into the net - someone behind me said "arsenal" (I think that's what he said) and I have to say I was thinking the same. I fear for us, I really do.
Not many people watching were thinking "Arsenal" I suspect...
Totally gutted as I thought we were much the better side. I think when Chrissy looks back on that game though, it may do more than others to indentify the issues. Last season we were playing against sides that you could guarantee would make mistakes, this year the quality of away defending is much better.
Despite being the better side, in attacks we often chose the wrong option and when we got chances, we were too wasteful. Yesterday, there was a big slice of bad luck too. Wilson's stretch, just prior to their goal would have been a goal 9 times out of 10 and their keeper did some fantastic sweeping on the couple of occasions Haynes did get behind them. Could you see Button doing that? Honestly?
Pritchard's engine/workrate, which is phenominal gets him in good scoring positions, but he never hits a decent shot! All of our players snatch at shots far too much and often seek that extra touch that they don't need. Jackson an exception. We are probably a clinical/prolific goalscorer away from being a promotion contending side. But they don't grow on trees, we are going to have to dig one up to go forwards next season though.
The lack of this type of player is born out by our performances. Away where teams try to beat us, rather than frustrate and stop us, we do well (incidentally, playing like a lot of away teams play against us at the Valley). When we do win at home, it is against sides who play like they are at home (more open).
Kept away from here last night on purpose: Thought I was the worlds worst at sprouting s**t when p*ssed/upset/annoyed. Kind of makes me sad how some people really have a go (Pro & Anti ) at Chris Powell & each other, personally think he is doing well with very little backing (financially & "from above"), in the apparent "best 2nd division in the world". But then again, football, like most things in life, are a matter of choice. Everyone is different, though we all Support CAFC. Would like it though, if the "supporters" (I use the word loosely) who come out with the Addams family songs and racist sh*t did not attend the Valley. Personally I'm glad we have the "Family Club" tag. When He was younger I never thought twice about taking my nephew Joe to games, glad he's grown up and seems a sensible young fella. Would never have taken him to the new den. Seems to me everything has to go right straight away/Now ! If we loose it is not the end of the world (I started going to CAFC v millwall matches in the early 70s, and saw every match between the clubs up to the 0-4 non-event acouple of years back) and losing yesterday does "hurt". But you'll get nowhere demanding CP gets sacked (seriously, who would/could step-in ? DiCanio ?) as whoever replaced him would have the same players and no money. Just be happy we're in the Championship, look at York City, Luton, etc.
Gotta say that, on CL, I've not seen many "CP OUT" posts, plenty being critical of him and his tactics, but only a couple directly wanting him to walk.
@se9addick, the only reason I'm commenting in this thread, the players marks thread and the match thread is because I did see the game pal, unfortunately.
Very short sighted to say Chrissy should go - would be a disaster IMO, given his record for addressing issues the summer before last. Surely he needs the chance, and backing, to do this again.
Stephens for me is a player who tries to find the incisive passes. If you put him in a side where there are always passes on, he would look a top player. Unfortunately, he gets the ball, looks to do something incisive with it, but nothing is on - he delays and looks again and then invariably loses the ball. I think he could be a great player for us, if we are able to play to his game. At the moment, we don't seem able!
The pitch is awful. Be better to shoot towards the JS in second half???
People who have seen lots of away games, can CAFC players pass the ball???
Not seen too many away but Birmingham, Ipswich and Wolves in particular sit fond in the memory. With pretty much the same players they played some good football in those games. And much more recently, Peterborough was also a decent performance against a team scrapping for their lives! So, who knows, maybe it's because the pitches are a lot better earlier in the season; however, that does not account for the home form?? As some wanna be punk bird sung in the late 70's "It's a Mystery".
I am just gutted that, once again we dish up a fantastic day out to those scum from down the road. That really hurt yesterday, it was like losing three games at once. Our side helped them humiliate us ! That's hard to take. Powell out no, Powell sort it out YES.
From here in France I watched the game via an internet stream and wished I hadn't. Poor pitch and conditions, same for both teams but we can't pass, have no runners off the ball, no forwards and no creative thinking. Desperate game and worrying but still think we can stay up. Need a lot of work throughout. Why so bad at home yet good away form, scared of our own supporters?
Confused by Powell's decision not to have Gower at least on the bench. He was deemed fit enough by Swansea to being on there bench last Saturday so why not ours yesterday? They played both there loan signings who both had an impact on the game.
We actually played some good football to feet in the first half.
Anybody who thinks we showed no guts or passion is a fool.
Jackson - captain's game and led by example.
That 'wonder goal' free-kick was nothing of the sort. Button had more than enough time to get something on it. Poor feet.
Those of you snivelling about not re-newing STs, the choice is simple - don't. Leave supporting the club to those who don't have an unrealistic sense of entitlement and possess a modicum of patience and appreciation of the fact that we are no longer in the cluster-f*ck that is L1.
Are things ideal - No, but what is? Our job, through choice,is to support the team. If you want instant gratification go elsewhere.

If all of who like a constructive Moan, didn't turn up I can assure you , that you be sitting in an empty valley watching league 2 football ! . Just because you will sit and watch crap, and put up with it does not make you a better supporter !
CP cannot think on his feet. 0-2 and a double sub made. We may survive this season but the home form must be a major concern for club owners. Recent arrivals for Millwall Chaplow and Easter both made an impact. Jackett too savvy for Powell. How many times has one thought that this season.
This thread has made me realise our fans really are as bad as so many other's in modern football, we lost Curbs due to them, they got a decent guy in Parky sacked when he deserved a chance with some backing & now they are trying to get a club legend doing a good job of keeping us up under very difficult situation sacked, football is losing it's soul because of fans like you.
Football fans are meant to have a moan and be critical of what going on, and the manager is meant to be able to deal with it. Football is a "results business" and I would say that CP is fully aware of that.
Man up GGA FFS!
I don't know if you live locally Rob, but maybe you could go to Bromley Addicks and ask Chris Powell in person why he hasn't done what you told him: spend more money on loanees, frees, and throw in youngsters.
Easy slur to tell someone to man up. Not many keyboard warriors ar ready to say the same things in person to the people they criticize. That's a general point, not particularly aimed at you. But I reckon if you say those things to CP, he's gonna find a polite way to say " do you really think that if I had money to spend, I would just sit on it? And do you know that free transfers cost money? Like 14k a week in Fullers case?"
14k pw for Fuller? Bloody hell. That is 13.5k pw down the drain. For all the good he's been I'd rather have had Azeez on the bench for the season and gradually have blooded him. If the Club ain't sold soon free transfers on low wages and kids are gonna have to see us through next season.
Totally fucking unacceptable!!! So fucking angry, 1 point from Palace and Millwall is not on!!!!
I agree with you that 1 point out of our 4 games against Palarse and Millwall is very frrustrating and I'm just as disapointed with the points return from those 4 fixtures as everyone else. But if it was between getting a good points return from those fixtures while going down or getting a poor points return from those fixtures while staying up, which would you prefer?
Ofcourse I would prefer to stay up, but it's not a straight choice. I said at the start of the season that all I wanted to do was stay up and get something from Palace or Millwall and we havnt beaten either. For me 1 point from them is totally unacceptable. I hope Powell and the players know just how upset by it some of us are. We never beat Millwall for whatever reason and needs sorting!!

So because your thinking about not renewing that makes you a lesser supporter to one that don't ? I don't think you understand we've seen four games won at home so unless you've been to countless away wins then yes why would you want to see your team lose every week. Ones that don't renew will pick and choose their games. Home form does not have to be perfect but it can improve. I don't think anyone has unrealistic targets for this football club.
On the positive side the players were up for it and we were marginally the better side for 60 minutes but it was all huff and puff, dire to watch like in many of our home games this season. The big difference was Shittu. He should be in a premier team not wasting his time at millwall. Haynes seemed scared of him and was even outpaced by Shittu which amazed me because we know Haynes is fast. We shouldn't be surprised that Millwall won because they always seem to get the rub of the green against us. So Wilson misses a sitter and then a minute later Easter flicks in a goal with his first touch. Typical! Lowrey's strike would have beaten most keepers. A sickener for us. We need a pass master in midfield. Stephen's on form is fine. Has he got a virus or something? Perhaps Gower will do the job for us. Waggy in for Wilson will be an improvement.
Themost frustrating part is that we could have easily taken 10 points from these games - Palace didn't deserve to lose at the Valley admitytedly, but if lino had not incorrectly flagged BWP offside, we probably would have won (at least got a draw)! At Sellout, we embarresed them in the first half and should have been 3 nil in front and then decided to go negative when Holloway decided to go all out from desperation. A clearer example of defeat snatched from the jaws of victory, you could not care to find. Millwall, a dour 0-0 at theirs and profligate finishing and wrong offensive choices costing us yesterday (and a smattering of bad luck) when we were the better side.
Early doors, was that not a penalty on Morrow btw - would have been given as a foul anywhere else on the pitch without a moment's hesitation!
Shittu was class yesterday. I thought Haynes would crucify him but didn't look bothered by anything he did and Haynes was trying. The boys were up for it and i believe they will be gutted they lost today. Up until the goal i thought we done alright and probably should be leading. The longer it went on the more I felt Millwall would score. And they did. Twice. Gutted.
Millwall fans were very quiet until the goal. I honestly forgot about them in the first half.
a few questions.
Why did we go to pieces after the goal?
How did Lawrie Wilson miss?
Was the free kick a button howler?
Did it kick off anywhere?
I was there but can't bring myself to watch the highlights.

Looked like they were playing for a draw until the goal, our concentration is woeful at times we just dont seem to be a ninety minute team.
Can't believe this thread. Man alive, does anyone seriously think the born again Christian Chris Powell would get a witch doctor on the pitch? Get a grip people.
The issue is simple. We have no-one capable of running a game in the squad at this level. Away it's not such an issue because we have an ability to play on the break, but at home you have to take the initiative and we can't dominate teams in the middle as you need to.
All that said, until their first goal Jackson and Pritchard were putting in some pretty decent passing. Pritchard's pass to Harriot was lovely and two or three times Jacko found a ball through the defence to Haynes, who just seemed to imagine a good option was to try to run through that man mountain of Shittu.
I think Haynes might have dropped deeper or run the channels yesterday. Or if we'd switched to a 433 he'd probably have been frightening coming from a wider position.
The truth is though that we owned the game until Taylor switched off and Easter nabbed a goal against the run. You could see their confidence swell, whilst ours disappeared. I think if Wilson hadn't contrived to put the ball over the crossbar from a yard out we'd gave gone onto win comfortably. Such are the margins at this level.
But what do we expect? Powell has the same players to choose from as he did last year a level below. If the board won't or can't back him then what can he do, seriously?
Maybe patience and 100% support from us can make up the shortfall. It worked against Cardiff when we were 2-0 down, barely a whimper apart from moaning at the same score yesterday. Just a thought.

Keyboard warrior? Where did that come from? I'd be happy to tell CP, You, GGA and the team face to face what I feel about yesterdays performance, but for now I'm airing my opinion on here like everyone else, all I've done is suggest a few simple ways that I think the squad can improve with little or no lay out. If that is to hard for Powell to accept, an opinion from a supporter of the club he manages, than maybe he ain't cut out to be the gaffer.

What a crock of shit! Curbs left coz Minty and he couldn't agree on his contract extension! Parky got Parky sacked cos he was a crap manager! Nothing to do with the fans!
Lincsaddick Member Said March 16 A view from my armchair .. we sign Gower, he does not get a place, even on the bench .. Millwall sign Chaplow and Easter, they are the men who turned the game.
Agree with you 101% mate. I was there in Lower West. Chaplow and Easter good loan signings, we get Obika (done nothing to impress me) and an unfit Gower. Have Millwall got a load more money than us, not by their crowd size. Week after week Pritchard and Wilson do nothing. Stephens has one nightmare and is dropped. Next home game surely play Hamer, Stephens and Gower. IMO Jackson was the only midfield player trying. This home form cannot keep on being acceptable!

Concentration and the ability to regain control after conceding are signs of mental strength we just don't see in this team.
Probably the wrong thread to post this on but however, here goes. The talk on here about not renewing next year is ridiculous. Long standing fans will renew whatever division we are in. I've supported Charlton for over 50 years. The thing I worry about is the possible new long-term fans. Yesterday we lost at home - again. The pitch looks terrible - any young fan before coming to the ground 'dreams' of a pitch something like Wembley and they are confronted by that - no very impressive. After the game to accommodate the away fans they are sent on a long detour - not ideal for a couple of parents and young children - must have been a bit scary. Now are the young potential supporters going to ask to come to Charlton again. Is the parent going to be very keen to put his young charges through all that, might just go to the flicks!
