  • Nice bit of new grass for Hamer & he still fucks it up!
  • so if you were the Mysterons would you give CP big money (assuming they have it) next season ?

Last season CP was given money and went out and got it very good players at that level----result a record breaking season.

At the Champs level to bring in 5/6 good quality players will take 5/6 million plus huge increase in wages when we are already loosing 6million + ------looking at this season would give CP that money ?

We all know its midfield thats our main area of concern Derveet,Pritchard,Waggy,Jackson,Stephens more often than not dont look anywhere good enough and collectively at least a yard to slow.

I think CP has all the rest of this season -----but im beginning to think he will be gone early in the close season
  • Said it in the preview.

Don't get too high with the highs, don't get too low with the lows.
  • I don't think we need big money - firstly we need to keep our best players and bring in one or two of quality. This season is a learning one and we get a couple of wins early, we can start to see what Harriot or Azeez may be able to offer next season.

If there is no money behind the club for a decent pitch and improvements to the squad then p'raps someone with money should take over the baton?
Maybe CP gets new deal in the summer and the resources to take us to next level ... maybe he walks
  • Powell has shown that he is good at solving problems in the team - it would be a tragedy and possibly a disaster if he wasn't given the chance and backing to do so again. Lots of lessons learned about this league this season and he does learn them - how can anybody doubt that fact?
  • Why after one defeat against a team pushing for the Play-offs are we talking about Powell getting sacked again? I think we've spent so long in the doldrums that people have forgotten that it's possible to just trundle along without anything very good or very bad happening at all. We lost to Forest. We're not in the relegation zone, nor are we in the Play-offs. Nothing is happening.
  • It was a red but seen payers get away with more harsh tackles Halford made a meal of it! Thought Waggy got pulled out of the way for the first and Hamer completely screwed up the second. We are poor in midfield and need some fresh faces (Harriott? or loanee) Thought Taylor did well in his few games back and not seen anything from Cort to suggest he deserves to have come back into the team in Taylors place.
  • Powell is a young Manager doing very well. With the budget he has he is getting a good return from his squad.
Yesterday was a bad day at the office.
What the fans want to see is football and against s much better side, as they were yesterday, that was always going to be a big ask.
  • That is the bad thing - all the good performances -and there was another on Tuesday- are happening away - going to the Valley is becoming a bit of a chore.

On your logic the answe should be yes it is wise to give CP any money. When he has had money he has spent it well. Whether there will be any money remains to be seen.

  • An expensive chore - but our love for CAFC runs deep and eternal!
  • Having a modest amount -not anything silly or unsustainable- of money is going to be so important next season. I think we are very well placed to move up a level but it will be the finances that determine whether we take that chance or go backwards.
  • Beware the knee jerk "I'm not going next week after such a poor performance".
I missed 2 of the best wins of the season cos I stupidly took that attitude after crap performances.
1/Went to middlesborough 4-1 defeat sulked and missed Cardiff game [5-4 win ]3 days later.
2/Went to drab boxing day defeat against ipswich and decided not to go to watford [4-3 win] 5 days later.
If you look at the fixtures this season the good has very often been followed by bad and very bad followed by very good.
That is because the ability in the squad is limited. What is limitless is the team spirit
    which SCP has engendered.
    In Sir Chris we trust.
    Doom merchants go to hell.
  • There is a lot more right with this side than is wrong. We do have to work out how to play at home in this league, but Forest have some good players and much better than their position. We were down to 10 and some games you just have to put down to experience.
  • Unusually got a cab back last night and the driver had picked up Fuller a few weeks ago, talked about how the players know the home form is crap and are really nervous at home because they want to do well for the fans. Clearly, there is something psychological there as well as it being a crap pitch (which incidentally came up on the FL show last night, with I think Blackpool singled out, though it could easily have been us. Steve Claridge mentioned that it was like this at Cardiff last season and now their pitch is good.)
I still think we would have struggled against Forest though, and they managed to play attractive passing football on our dreadful pitch.
  • When it is raining the ball sticks in the mud- it didn't rain yesterday so the pitch played ok.
  • We were terrible today. I will always defend our manager and players but nobody comes close to earning any sort of defence for the performance. Stephens had a 'mare, Derivte did not find a red shirt with a pass all day. Pritchard did his best. He tries to make up for his lack of finesse with hard running and today he looked a boy amongst men. I actually think our back four did ok, they just had nothing in front of them.
Sat in the West stand it looked as though Kermorgant 'swiped' rather than kicked Halford but it was a silly thing to do.

Now, reality time. Whilst we played awfully, please do take the opportunity to compare our team vs there's player for player. There was a gulf in class that cannot be ignored. Their bench was probably worth more than our starting11. For a premiership comparison I would pitch it as us (Norwich) vs them (Arsenal). We have to accept that this squad of players is no more than a bottom third team. We have endeavour and guts and effort...but very little skill or relative ability. Forest played beautifully at times, but that is because eh have the tactical nous and ability. How many of our players have played in thePrem? Cort and Fuller? They had Ward, Greening,Cox, Sharp, Reid, Lansbury...all of them have played a the top level.

We were outclassed but also contributed to our own downfall. But we have something about us surely to beat Watford,Leicester,Cardiff shows that. And for an example of how topsy turfy this league is look at Tuesday's results to today's. how many teams won on Tuesday but lost today and vice versa? Hull, Millwall, Peterborough, Barnsley, Huddersfield...we are one of a large number of inconsistent teams in this league.

    Spot on.Nice balanced summary

  • I'd really like to see CP start with Fuller and Haynes next week -give the oppo something to think about and maybe the crowd something to get excited about
  • we do not have the midfield to do that even with 5 in it we are over run

Is that because the midfield has no out ball though, other than to pass back or punt up to Yann?
We have the same number of players as the oppo, why should we be so easily overrun?
Maybe we should try to stretch the oppo more - get their midfield chasing around?

Same old same old but our midfield has been sub standard since the start of last season. No playmaker. No holding midfielder and absolutely no quality in width. Until this is resolved we ain't going anywhere good.

Last year Wiggins was our most effective wide player, overlapping with Jacko. We've missed that.
We've cracked the formation away - we need to re-think home, if only for the sake of the fans.
    It's becoming depressing.

  • Don't want Scp sacked, but he does appear a little out of his depth tactically. Would I give him my hard earned money to spend if I was TJ,sadly i don't think I would.I would like to see a bit more experience in the dug out to help him, not because he's a bad manager, but because he is not at this level,a instinctively good one. Paul Hart should be put to better use on matchdays. We are in a real dog fight now and I'm concerned that alone he can't achieve the consistency to get us out of it? Don't underestimate the impact of a good manager! made more evident by our rivals Barnsley etc winning a few more games recently! I am really fearful that we could have a continued bad run and go down, another season down there would be unbearable

Powelly said on Talksport a few weeks back that he asked the board for some dosh from the sale of Jenkinson. If we cash in on Solly for example he will hopefully do the same to be able to get a few better championship quality players.

Still believe we are relying on a few too many factors happening to go down this year. 8 teams below us having a great run while we have a poor run. We may have a poor run but 8 teams below us having a good run? Big ask.
  • If you compare this thread with that for the Leicester game we do appear to be suffering from a form of collective bipolar disorder. Really all that is needed is a few incremental improvements to get some level of consistency - and a bit of thought towards finding the young and cheap players who will be able to play at the next level. The L1 team was largely built by SCP based on players he thought could play at this level - and on the whole he has been proven right- but to be honest I'm not sure we have taken much of the next step - unless something really incredible is happening at the youth level. That said it is probsbly about time that a calculated gamble was made in giving one of the youngsters a run of 3 or 4 games - small changes like that can inspire a team and the crowd and clear the collective gloom.
  • Stats from BBC....
    Addicks Forest
    Possession 34 66
    Shots 3 22
    On target 1 12
    Corners 3 9

I also noticed on Billy Davies comments that Forest have 5 loanees.

So we stormed the league last year and got a record number of points - as well as many other club records - all with a "sub-standard" midfield did we? Really?

As I said on another thread, everyone has got the ump, but there's no need to start making things up!

What SHG is saying is that last season we always said that our midfield was the weak point. We stormed the league mainly because of a rock-solid defence, and hoofball to Kermy - it was always acknowledged that we were 'weaker' in midfield. This season hasnt changed much, along with the personnel.

Actually, what he said was that our midfield has been "sub-standard since the start of last season".

Now I would tend to agree that in our current league it's not the greatest. But last year??? Remind me just how many goals Jackson scored last year, for exanple.
