It will always retain its original name of the "New London Stadium" for me although toolbox (invented by yours truly that one) is acceptable.

Sparrows lane shows how little he knows about football for not recognising the best right back in the division - by a country mile I might add.

As for people being killed by flares at matches - yes it has happened - not common and mostly abroad where this idiocy is more common.

Yeah, didn't recognise a kid who has been playing 3rd division football for most of his career, I know nothing.
You said it - even a Palace mate who gives us nothing recognises the fact.

Two questions because I honestly don't know how dangerous these things might be:
    1. Has anyone in a football ground ever been injured by a flare?
    2. Has anyone in a football ground ever been injured by a smoke bomb?

I remember that Welshman getting killed by a firework, but that's something else. It's just that everyone says about it being dangerous and I really don't know. Is it?

Why would anyone take any of these to a football match?

the flare is fine to me, still not liking the red and white army song. Palace sing that after goals and play the music.

Smokes are not dangerous it's just smoke ! Not quite as bad as smoking itself
Flares I believe can be lethal if handled wrong hence why a majority of fans across the footballing nation throw them as the tubes that hold them heat up

I've heard he was too busy slicing bread for the first time ever. :-)
  • Tbh its a song red division started of and it is quite catchy and a lot of fans do join in with it, hence why RD was created whT would you rather do that or the palace we love u we love u blabla bla bollocks
  • Both before my time but having coined the name "spanners" in Voice of the Valley" it was an obvious next step to describe the place half full of Spanners as the "toolbox". All there on record.

I know you kids weren't going then so no shame in you not knowing that

The Toolbox works perfectly as a nickname for their ground, especially here in Oz where "Tool" is a polite and widely used way of saying "w===er" - so Toolbox works perfectly for me.
  • So just like saying your a complete and utter tool.
  • So how long you been going DRF. The club is in my blood, and after years of stick from millwall boys it's actually nice to see charlton stand up to them. That's all I'm saying.
Now pull that thorn out my side and go and sit in the west with your bovril

I thought it was because from the outside the place looked like a tool box !

What was the original thinking behind "spanner" ?

    Great minds oohaa great minds.
  • Agreed on the "We're the red and white army" song, not a fan personally. I sing along with it because I want to make a noise and get behind the players.

Doesn't really add anything better than "Red army" or "Chrissy Powell's red and white army" for me though.

Was overdone a bit yesterday but I'd rather we sang something than nothing.
  • We're the red and white army song - don't like it, too palace - our fans giving it large yesterday - loved it - all those giving it all the moral crap on here - go and watch rugby or something - charlton has always had a complete cross section of fans - middle class, working class, trainspotter types, proper hard cases - w've always had an 'element', a 'firm', and although i'm not into it personally, if our lot turn there's over i'm all for it. Not politically correct maybe but football is tribal and that is just an extension of it - it's the greatest game in the world and its all part and parcel - return game in march? bring it on - gang of pie and mash eating, lacoste wearing posers.
