Others have said it. Chris Powell needs to stay and, given time and support, he will turn it around as good as anyone. There is nothing to gain by bringing in anyone else, especially someone who doesn't know Charlton. Unfortunately, this Board don't seem to be thinking along Charlton lines and I fear he will lose his job shortly unless things quickly turn around. I just don't feel good about the Charlton situation at the moment. This is such a disappointment after the euphoria and promise of last year.
Are we the only club with injuries in the league or something? It's all well and good to say 'wait and see' but it could be too late by then.
Is that CP's fault? Not in my eyes although some baffling line-ups and tactics does not help.
I'm with you on this !!
anyone would have thought we are decimated with injuries...........I agree we have a problem at l/b, but Evina had played his first game last Sat at Wolves as Solly had been playing there, so hardly a hugh miss and I doubt v.much that both Fuller & Yann will play together.
I'm probably going to get absolute pelters for this, but do people really think we need to change the manager if we go down? Let's say we end up in the bottom 3 after 46 games and it's that horrible bastard league for us again - does Powell really deserve the boot? We only came up last season, in some style, and three teams have to go down. It's not completely ludicrous to imagine it could be us. Ok, we all throught we'd kick on this season and at the very least establish ourselves as a Championship team, but that was when we had money and were looking at Aluko and Quinn and some top Championship talent. With the amount Powell has been able to bring in and our ridiculous injury record so far the fact we're not in the relegation zone is relatively heartening. Let's not forget Curbs took us up to the Prem, straight back down and then back up for a long stretch. I know they're different leagues but given our situation I don't think it's a ridiculous bit of mis-management if we go down, as agonising as it would be, and I don't think the manager necessarily has to go for it. No doubt I'll be criticised for a lack of ambition but I believe in keeping faith with the manager
All the time you're all moaning and pissing and shitting on this thread, you missed serious debate on a subject that really matters over on the Whose Rack thread! But there don't worry, there'll be another one in the not-too-distant future!
I like CP as a person and he is my favourite Charlton player of all time but I remain unconvinced by him as a manager. I hope he succeeds as it would devastate mamy fans to see him sacked.
can we get over the fact we have a couple of injuries............4 to my reckening out of a squad of over 30 !! So certainly not decimated as somepeople would have us believe.
it just so happens that 2 are left backs................but Evina has only started 1 League game this swason & CP had played Solly there for 5 or 6 games instead, so hardly a hugh miss. 2 seasons ago I remember Jackson playing a number of games at l/b and I beleive Devite can also play there if needed.
the other 2 are strikers - but we have another 4 that are avaialble (Hulse, BWP, Haynes & Cook) with another 2 we could play if we really wanted (Leon Clarke & Micheal Smith)...............so we are not threadbare in that dept and having to play centre halves there.
we main reason we are where we are is down to playing players out of position, tacticle ineptitude by the management staff and being too negative
Powells interventions at half time at Leeds and at Wolves were not tactically inept or negative. This is not going to be an easy season, but there is more evidence that we're learning than repeating the same mistakes game after game. Not headless chickens so far this season, not lost the plot, not not trying and working hard...but sailing through stormy waters.

Not convinced?! Not convinced?! So I guess 101 points last season and walking the league was just a blip then.
SCP has proven that with backing in the transfer market he can succeed. He hasn't got that this season.
If we were to believe all the rumours going round Dennis Wise would be our manager and Chris Solly would be at west ham
SHEARER? Have you people finally gone insane with your hand-wringing miserablism? Shearer ...for the love of Christ.
Miserablism, lol, there's your word of the week. If the Charlton Life Mods ever want to to start a movement, there's the name for it right there.
I'm pretty certain morrissey owns the copyright.
I was happy in the haze of a Charlton game but heaven knows I'm miserable now I was looking for a match, and then I saw a match and heaven knows I'm miserable now
In our team why do we give valuable time to players who don't care if we roll over and die
Two opposition players pass us by and heaven knows I'm miserable now They were looking for the goal, and then they found the goal and heaven knows I'm miserable now
In my life why do we give valuable time to players who don't care if we roll over and die
What they ask of me at the end of the day Kinsella would have blushed "You've been watching that team too long" she said and I naturally fled
Most of of players are not good enough for this league, simple.
And that's the real issue. Powell wanted to strengthen in the summer and wasn't allowed to spend what he had been expecting to (if the rumours are to be believed). Certainly it seemed we bid £1m plus for Shackell. Then the transfer policy changed. Instead of experienced Championship campaigners, we got out of contract rejects, an ageing striker and reserves. Then there was Wilson who, if rumours are to be believed, the cash was made available for because five times as much was expected to come back the other way for Solly.
Cook Wilson Dervite Fuller Button
I'm pretty sure CP didn't get anyone off his A transfer list and maybe no one from list B. When you look at that list, we're seriously short of an experienced centre midfielder, which I'm sure CP was aware of. That might've been ok if, like last season, we were lucky with injuries and the confident title winning team built some momentum, but that hasn't happened. The side has been chopped and changed with players in unfamiliar positions. Dervite in centre mid, Solly at left back, Pritchard on the wing. The problem now is, we have to rely on loans if we want to/are financially able to bring players in - which personally gives me nightmares about Pardew's reign.
I didnt even see the point in having Green on the bench, Powell doesn't trust him and neither do I
I said back in August that keeping Stephens was a mistake, he has his strengths but had we taken the money got that fella from Southampton in and a couple of others and kept some money back for January I think we would be in a better position than we are now
But then they would have go stick for selling our best players....
No way in the world will Villa come back with decent offers for him in January,
I just cannot lay the blame for our current position with Powell. How can he legislate for the individual errors made not only yesterday but also bringing into that Hulse in the last minute at Molineux. Its just not running for us at the minute, last year the two last minute chances last week would probably have gone in, but again I can't see how that is a fault of Powells. You cannot progress at any level of football without strengthening the squad, the board didnt allow him to strengthen in the summer and now the fruits of this decision are becoming evident...
Lots of valid posts on this thread that I agree with, we look like we needed to invest in the summer to push on , but for whatever reason it didn't happen.
Yes playing players out of position , making substitutions too late , and injuries are major contributing factors, but some of the current players are just not good enough at the moment for the championship.
The one thing we have to do as fans is stay united and contiinue to back the team, the team needs our support more than ever.
You know when things are bad when you are having dreams about Charlton, and telling Chris
And telling Chris Powell not too worry, I sincerely hope if the board are unable to stump up cash for new players then they are actively looking for new owners, to provide necessary investment.

Will you be applying for the vacancy in SE7 ?
( BTW ...too much beer with your curry = a C- in spelling)

One of them baldock and the majority of them on the a or b list of SCP
This is back to Parkinson bullshit.
Wilson gets injured and then doesn't put Green on??

It was starting to look effective with SK and CS getting forward but we then gifted them the third goal.
Also Stephens who was meant to be the quaterback was terrible.
At least Powell had that alternative up his sleeve. It didn't work out but credit him with having a plan B at least.
No one else could do better with this team.
