  • What I don't understand is why we didn't cash in on deadline day with Stephens - there was obviosly a serious amount of money on the table.

Was TJ trying to be hard nosed and it bit him on the bum?
  • I would much rather have seen Harriott come on yesterday than Cook. I know he wasn't a sub, but I wished he had been.

Yep. Stephens was ready to go weather powell liked it or not hence the reason he didn't travel to forest.

Yet certain people became greedy and villa moved on.
  • I would have been happy to sell Stephens and bring in a couple of players that would fit into our first team.

If we need to push on, we should revert back to the 90's when we had to sell to push on.

    For example:

Sold Anthony Barness, Robert Lee to get back to the Valley
Sold Scott Minto to help fund the east stand and bring in players like Morts and David Whyte

I know it don't sound great but if we have no funds whatsoever then we need to do the examples like above. That means sell Stephens and Solly as much as we can and bring in the correct players for a smaller amount who can help push us on further.

  • Going back to the original post and ignoring the fact this is another thread for people to vent, why do we believe these rumours emanating from an otherwise impenetrable fortress?
  • What happens with throwing in a youngster when you are struggling, is that they will make wrong choices and get pilloried by gormless sections of the crowd and ruin their confidence and stunt their progress.
Unless they are a wunderkind you blood them sensibly - now is not the time

Agreed. Chris Solly took a hell of a lot of stick from people on here now he is up for a knighthood and would be cannonized on the steps of Woolwich town hall if we had our way.
  • I have never seen on here solly getting stick only uneducated souls thinking Francis was better

  • fair play to powell to be honest he has had hardley any money to spend this season on players the board are to blame for this mess we all no that this squad is not good enough and we needed at least 6 new players in the summer especially in midfield.we have been unlucky with injurys especially at left back but we need to get behind him

We now have a bright young manager who is Charlton through and through. If he goes we will have lost a gem. What I'm hearing about TJ is not good. If he already didn't rate Powell as a manager after our record breaking league 1 season then what hope does Chris have now. We need to make noises. What can we do?

I didnt even see the point in having Green on the bench, Powell doesn't trust him and neither do I

I said back in August that keeping Stephens was a mistake, he has his strengths but had we taken the money got that fella from Southampton in and a couple of others and kept some money back for January I think we would be in a better position than we are now

But then they would have go stick for selling our best players....

No way in the world will Villa come back with decent offers for him in January,

Villa only offered the same amount as we paid for Stephens, the rest were add ons, European qualification was one of them, that's why he wasn't sold.
  • european qualification lmfao, stephens will be doing last of the summer wine before they qualify for europe.

If anyone is going to do anything positive with this squad of players it is Powell.

He brought each of them in and got their confidence back and in return they will do anything for him.

If he goes then I hate to think where we would end up at the end of the season.

I was happy with mid lower position in the league at the start of the season, now I'd be happy with 4th bottom.

We have had injuries to first teamers we never had last season and are in a standard of league where financial muscle shows its worth.

A test of character for everyone at the club, fans included.

    Well said.

I'd be surprised if any of the squad wouldn't want to 'run through walls' for him.

I'm shocked at Airman's comments regarding TJ's alleged desire to get rid of CP, and I think if that was the case, the squad would be devastated and it would show on the pitch. I feel TJ would be shooting himself in the foot by sacking CP.

    This :-)

I know it's been done to death on here but how the hell did we go from model mid table Premiership club to the current basket case?

I gotta agree, not sure another thread is needed, we have to take some if the blame for the poor home forHeaders are going down in the crowd well before the teams does.

That of course would be a reasonable explanation, except it doesn't seem to be true.
  • I've only read the first couple of posts and the last few, but if SCP is seriously under threat then for the first time in my 29 years of support I will consider boycotting if he is sacked. What a joke, SCP has done wonders for us and is trying to keep a mainly league one team in the championship. What did the board expect, coupled with injuries to key players we are down to bear bones. Gutted about this thread.

I think my post was not properly read and has therefore put @olly in a strange position.

Was he referring to the milk or has he heard another whisper about this post?
