Of course Powell should be given time, but at the same time that was an awful second half, where we fell apart and nobody knew what they were doing, which doesn't reflect well on the coaching and organisation of the team. A few more of those performances, and Powell's position will genuinely be under threat.
I'm sorry but all this about being better when these players come back is rubbish, we wernt winning games when they were fit so why will things change when they're back?
Im struggling to keep as much attention with football this season due to personal work & life situations right now but if Powell gets sacked then im counting this season as a right off for me as a fan, as despite recent Home results im still delighted that we have a Charlton legend in charge who is as much a fan as us and a genuinly all round nice guy.
CP was so miserablist on tv after the point gained at wolves, i did wonder then if maybe he was upset by something. Times like this he needs to hear the fans support, and he definitly has mine for what it's worth. Still plenty to enjoy in this league and plenty of good football to come. We have a couple of games now by which to bounce back before the derby game with Millwall, and by then hopefully any milicious rumours will be forgotten.
One thing I'm certain of, if Powell goes we're relegated, if he stays we have a chance. Consider this, a new manager would need a new team, because the impact on our players, our fans, and the wider incredulous football aware public if we lost Chris Powell would be an utter disaster for Charlton Athletic.
But looking at CP today from the covered end upper he spent a lot of the game sat down on the advert hoarding, it seemed to me and didn't seem as bright and jumping around as bormal - and this in the first half. Perhaps he just had a sore leg.
If the club let go Powell, and by that I mean don't prevent him walking or sack him, I reckon it would be possibly the worst board decision since Curbs wasn't retained.
Ill be honest, for various reasons I've not seen many games this season (so probably shouldnt even comment on this thread) so don't know if we have been bad/ unlucky or whatever but I fail to see how without any money another manager will do any better and would be gutted if he left.
F**cking Charlton....all that hope from the Hartlepool game didn't last long!
Wilson going off was a shame. Solly and Wilson on the right looked good and the team was more balanced. Bradley Pritchard on the right and Dale Stephens just does not work. Bradley Pritchard, decent person, he maybe but he is not a right midfield. John Robinson he ain't. Stephens was very poor. To think, we could have got near 2 million for him. There was no pace on either wing. Tactically, this was a mistake.
But for the love of God, Shearer ? With the current level of investment, and team, we will be consigned to relegation. If the board / Jimensz, Slater or Protheroe or whatever mysteron (if there is one) think that they can deflect blame onto Chris Powell for the lack of quality in the team, that only significant finances bring, they better think again quickly.
If Shearer or AN Other is to be supported with proper investment then why not Chris Powell ?
The bare bones of the squad are being exposed by the injuries, and tactically, he does make mistakes, but Chris Powell has my support. Overall, he does learn and is still learning. He is Charlton, whereas I am not sure where the loyalties of Jimesz, and the rest of the owners lay, other than the bottom line and the health of their bank balances. Message to these people, don't think you can offload or deflect criticism onto Chris Powell.
SCP is one or the rare good things at the Valley at the moment. To talk about getting rid of him is absolute garbage. It is obvious that all is not well behind the scenes, but dont doubt Powell's commitment.
I thought first half we were ok, Should have scoted three goals, didnt and no one marked Woodgate for their first. When Wilson went off we lost our shape, terrible mistake for their 2nd and we tried to chase a game and were not good enough.
Have a stack of injuries to key players in a thin squad, that is not down to Powell. I really cannot believe that Charlton supporters are saying he should go. He is an excellent manager and we are lucky to have him.
After he won the first five inaugral games CP's first season was appalling. Gave him money to pick his squad and we walked the league. No or very little money to boost the squad and we are struggling particularly with key players out injured.
To sack a manager who has won you promotion after giving him little or no money to strengthen the squad for a higher level, particularly when a successor would have no dosh in the kitty would seem madness to me.
CP as a Charlton legend is the one thing that has probably given all supporters a sense of Charlton-ness in the last couple of years of transition. I think the board actually need Powell more than he needs them for that reason.
Talk of Chris Powell going is just ridiculous . If he is pushed out by the idiots supposedly running this club then they might as well start planning for league one again .
The Board are not charlton fans and dont see cp as we do. Bad decisions have already been made and they are more tham capable of making another one. Even if we were relegated id want cp to stay but they will not be thinking the same way.
All this makes me smile....we have lost 4 of our better players. Fuller, Yann, Wiggins and Evina....CP has had to play people out of position and when he tries to keep the Solly/Wilson partnership together (which many of us wanted) Wilson gets injured....so that's potentially 5 out.....Haynes has just come back and is made of glass......Taylor's not match fit.....Green is more out than in when he plays......so taking all this into account coupled with people saying we have no money.....who is going to take over, and more importantly what choices are there that would be better, Jewell? Shearer?? Redknapp??? (no money)....I'm at a loss to think of anyone who is currently not managing (other than Curbs and he won't come back) who would be able to work with the bare bones squad we now have.....I agree CP has made mistakes.....but get a couple/all of our first choice players back and who knows what we might happen.....sure we wont get promotion....but we are 14 games in with 32 left to go.......lets just be realistic is all I ask. If we had loads of money then it would be different and would have been in the summer as we could have signed a few players, but jeesh.....we haven't and CP has to work with what he's got....and currently that's getting less and less by the week!!!
Yep, we certainly can't blame the players or Powell, they are all doing their best.
If CP is sacked, it would be a disaster. It would be hugely damaging and we might not recover. Relegation would be calamitous, irrespective of who is in charge. This afternoon's performance was indeed another duff one and we need to score some goals. As to Shearer becoming our manager, many Addicks, myself included, would simply not wish to continue supporting the club if that were to happen.

"@JaShea99: Ludicrous thread. Don't give the poster the attention he's craving by keeping it alive."
You what? I'm away at uni and I had a text from my dad and two mates at the game RE: the first post and was wondering if anyone else had heard the same; why would I post something like that to "crave attention"? Helmet.

In SCP we trust!
That was a success wasn't it?
In my opinion Alonso was not a signing chosen by Powell.

So you sack a manager, you want an experienced manager, a manager with experience of dragging teams out of a relegation scrap...so you hire Shearer?
What's he done? Nothing. Great player, yes. But CP has more experience than him!!
On day one I knew it would be like this, it's goin to be a scrap.
I worry Tony 'The Trigger' Jimenez may start having twitches in his knee. I hope he doesn't though. In SCP we trust...
