Looking at our fixtures prior to the season starting it was clear that whilst not necessarily a daunting task it would certainly be a very challenging start to life in the Championship. Realistically we are in for a rollercoaster ride. Our home form will be so important and we need to be realistic in so much that our squad is one that is in the bottom third in this league. So we will have more days like today and be subjected to teams who are, in all honesty, better than us. Reading Redmidland's and others excellent commentary thread today had me despairing. Not because we were bent outplayed or beaten but because of some of the comments about why Powell is getting it wrong, why Jackson is suddenly crap, why Hamer is suddenly a liability etc etc. Time for realism, people. We had a great season last year but this is now. This USA tough tough league withlayers who, seven or eight years ago would have been playing regularly in the Premierhip. So, sometimes a defeat or a bad performance is down to the quality of the opposition, not out own ineptness. Just accept that okay we were beaten by a better team.
They've spent quite a bit in the transfer market as well with decent signings. I seem to remember hearing that players could not feature today unless they were signed befoe 12. Am I making that up ? I think Billy Sharp was signed quite late yesterday but came on in the 2nd half.

He's only on loan so could play regardless of when he was signed same with Coppinger
Didn't see the first half display as "disinterested" ...more like outplayed by a terrific side with class, physical presence & great one touch football. Watching MOTD as I type this and haven't seen anyone perform as well as Forest in the first half. Can't believe most who were there didn't mention the way that Andy Reid controlled the game from midfield- immense ! ( not in a "who ate all the pies" way!)
Very heartened by the character shown in the 2nd half though & by the way we kept them down to just the 2 goals. Agree with most who lauded Ric for his cameo but can't agree he should have come on sooner- no pre season/not match fit surely ? Another 10 days or so and he'll be up to scratch.
The lads looked down at the final whistle but as most have indicated, Forest will beat most teams at their place this season. Now the fenetre is ferme everyone can relax and concentrate on the little matter of getting some well earned points on the board.
I thought Haynes did OK the last 10 or so minutes after a poor start, he got into a good position following excellent work by Solly but failed to apply the finish. Then cut inside from the left and almost opened them up. He has quite an awkward style, i wonder if he will get enough playing time to settle down and be productive for us.
Thinking back one thing I was really unhappy about was Blackstock's foul on Kerkar right at the end. Kerkar broke away within our half and Blackstock dived in on his ankle from behind while nowhere near the ball. Sure he got booked but there was nothing like any intention to get the ball and he really could have injured Kerkar. What a prick

Yep it was a shocker, on the train home Forest fans were saying the ref was biased toward us-if that was the case this should have been a red, totally cynical and as you said, dangerous.
Wasn't there but come on. Can't believe some of the shite I'm reading. Forest are the big spenders this year and they should be up there come May.
Think we all need to have a reality check. We can't win them all.
True, but you were not there, so your point holds no value.
I was there and i agree with rugbyaddick, anyone would think that this was the 4th we'd lost in a row with some of the comments on here, some people need to look back on the Dag & Red away game and when we were beaten 4-0 by Millwall and remember that things are pretty good at the moment.
Very poor first half we didn't get a kick, much improved second half and could have got a point when we really wouldn't have deserved one. Fuller looked great when he came on great touch and close control and looks like he's going to be a really good signing if he can stay fit.
The midfield looks a bit weak but then we all know that so hopefully we can bring in a bit of quality there if we can then I think we'll be comfortably mid table.

I was there and Forest outclassed us, playing like a team who know what they're doing at this level - no shame for us in losing there. Their midfield in particular was exceptional, and if you keep the ball as they did you will do ok - especially now they've got BiIly Sharp up top. That said, we weren't annihilated and could have come away with a point, given how we finished the game. We'll be fine, and I have a feeling this could turn out to be a 'good' defeat for us in the long run, showing that the whole squad needs to somehow find an extra 5-10% to do themselves justice in this division and making last season virtually ancient history, which it needs to be.
Too many moans about the ref making mistakes in the build up to the goals. If they hadn't been goals no one would even mention it. Lots of little niggles in games go overlooked or else there would be no flow to football at all.
It doesn't matter. It's over and we were beaten by a very good team.
Palace should be live out here as well so looking forward to that one.
I only watched on the telly. We missed Stephens and I still think that the upset around Stephens not getting his move to Villa and his disappointement will have unsettled the squad a bit. Forest were simply much better than us and the squad has got some learning to do. No shame in that. The second half showed that the fight is still there and that Fuller is the sort of player who can lift the whole team. Hopefully in January SCP will do some deals to strengthen the mid-field but right now I can't wait for the Palace game when we will make the kind of noise that will boost the whole squad.
This match was a bit of a reality check - Forest are a good side and will challenge for automatic promotion. A 2-1 defeat puts things in perspective, we are a decent side capable of holding our own and have a good team spirit but lack of a bit clout in central midfield.
We are going to have days like today and it is how we go onto to deal with them that matters. Having Fuller and Haynes fit gives us a lot more options which we need. Think we are good enough for mid table.
Having just read the match thread (which I don't get time to do when I'm doing it), I didn't realise the comments were in some cases from a few people quite negative. Yes we were outplayed and weren't at the races in the first half....we got a bit more into 2nd half and Fuller, Kerkar made a difference when they came on, but we are going to have games like this and we aren't going to find life as easy in this league. We've only played 4 games....all against teams expected to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season and have 5 points, which, if a bit more luck had gone our way, could easily have been 9.....Birmingham equalising with last kick of the game at St. Andrews and our perfectly good goal we had ruled out against Hull. Lets look at the positives and see what happens and where we are after 10 games. Anyway, its going be tough for me this week, I work in Nottingham and surrounded by Forest supporters all who report into me!! I will be polite to them and agree they deserved their win.....after all they have got to come to Valley later in the season....we can get our revenge then!!
Really poor first half and could have been 3 or 4 down. Cook look totally lost and was moved 3 times in the first half alone. It is not often it has happened in the past 12 mnths but Powelly got it wrong badley.
2nd half was slightly better and a lot better once Kerkar and Fuller came. Forest looked very good and if they keep playing like that will be one of the main contenders this season.
Wanted to have a good think about that before I commented. I do agree it wasn't Chrissy's finest hour but hey ho - we'll give him that. Forest are a funny team, they are not good defensively but have very good players in midfield and attack. We came out with our usual plan but they bullied and harried us. To an extent that you couldn't play that way in another country or even possibly the Premiership and keep all your players on the pitch with the constant sliding in, but in this league you get away with that game more often than not and it unsettled us as we had no time to compose ourselves on the ball.
Not saying Forest weren't good though, they passed the ball very well. They were unlucky when they hit the bar so it sort of evened out the good luck they had getting that free kick which was pretty soft. Not sure Hamer could do too much - difficult for a keeper when you are expecting a touch, but I'd have somebody on the back post and treat it like a corner. A bit of a fluke goal though.
We were frustrating though and unfortuante that Haynes and Fuller were not fully fit as the changes we made in the 80th minute were needed 20 mins earlier. Nobody can say we deserved anything though most refs would have given us a penalty for the hand block from Kerkar - but maybe you have to be at home to get them. We have things to look forward to and Stephens' worth to the side was shown.
My final thought - you have to look at the strengths and weaknesses of teams in this league. They all seem to be a bit different so far. Forest are a team you have to attack - they know that so really attack and are very committed to stop you. We played too deep, which might work 9 times out of 10 but wasn't the way against them. If we have learned from the game, it could still benefit us in the long run.
The first 80 minutes was the one of the worst Charlton performances I've seen from Charlton since CP took charge.
MIA Really?! Are you saying that the team in the second art of the 2010-11 league one season was better than the side yesterday? Or the side that was 0-4 down at halftime to Notts County at home better?
Yes our boys had an off day but I'm fed up with all those knee jerk reactions, rein these in please...
Watched the game on live streaming, thought that the second half we played with lots of spirit, blood and guts stuff and a draw for the half was about right.
We are not going to walk this league, if anything we are going to be bottom half, although I expect that to be the top of it and Fuller may even drag us into the top half.
Forest are a good side, the real tests of where we are will come when we play the Barnsleys and Peterboroughs of this league and of course the palaces.
We - Manager, Players and fans - need to learn as we go along, we also need to pick up points although not everyone of them and we need to be realistic as fans.
Palace up next maybe this result will temper some of the views that have been expressed of how we are going to tonk them and we can focus on actually getting a win .. any win.

As Annakissed rightly said, we'll be fine.
Keep the faith !
