Watched on a stream. Predicted 2-1 to Forest, not surprised. We know we're going to lose more games than last season and top 6 or so sides are going to be very tough games, no need to overreact (as some were during the game).
Not down to a lack of effort, they just had more quality. They were more comfortable on the ball with better movement. As we know our midfield is our weakest area and that was really highlighted today.
Fuller very promising. Still very early but should be very dangerous at this level. If he turns out to be better than BWP or Yann and one of them is dropped then so be it. All part of the team evolving.
Be interesting to see how our line up and formation develops over the season. Can see us using 4-5-1/4-3-3 in games like this.

I suspect that shows how far away most of our players are from Premiership quality -which is hardly surprising as they were all div three journeymen last season.
Seems from the reports that Fuller and to a lesser extent Kerkar were a class above anyone else on our side . I suspect that shows how far away most of our players are from Premiership quality -which is hardly surprising as they were all div three journeymen last season. Although oddly,if things had gone diffferently yesterday two of them could have been playing in the Prem this weekend, of course!
Perhaps we need to find a couple more like Fuller with a top flight pedigree when the prem squads of 25 are finalised, and take them on loan.
Beginning to think it will be a tough season, although I still think we're too well organised and have an inspirational manager, factors which will keep us well clear of relegation worries.
A shame we appear to have no money again. I think it would have only taken three or four more signings of Fuller's quality to take us to the edge of the play-offs.
If NRC is still available and is on a free perhaps he will be the player for the midfield alongside, Kerkar, Stephens? just a thought
Not going to get too excited about Kerkar yet. He did nothing at Rangers and we only gave him a 1 year deal. Seen it enough times, a player with a bit of pace that likes to run with the ball usually looks good in their first few cameos. Promising though and different to what we have.
2nd looked handball but thought Morro should have held his ground. Midfield shape or personnel? Cook out of position, hard to blame him. JJ does seem to lack pace at this level, as we guessed he might. Tempo is just too high.
Piss poor first half from our point of view. We got passed to shreds by Forest and Hamer uncharacteristically made a blunder for their 1st goal. We did gradually improve in the last 5 mins of the half but were still not on top.
2nd half was much better even though Forest were still largely in control we managed to pin them back for longer periods and make them search for an opening. Alas Forest found that opening after some poor defending from our side. SCP then made some great substitutions by bring on Fuller and Kerkar who made a big impact. We immediately started bring the ball forward and got reward for our efforts with a goal straight away by Fuller. However as we piled on the pressure it was to little to late and Forest did deserve to win.
Forest are the most impressive team I've seen this season and I reckon they'll be right up their come may so losing 2-1 isn't a bad result.
Reo Coker would be a good signing, we'll probably pick up a few loans in the next month or so. Out of interest why wasn't Waggy on the bench again today?
Credit where it's due their lot played very, very, well and I doubt many teams in the division would have done much better than us today. Considering we looked a bit shell shocked for the first hour we did really well to stay in the match and could have stole a point at the end - it only ever seems to happen against us that though :-(
Clearly not too many positives to be taken today but we kept going and didn't end up getting a tonking as we probably would have done a few years ago.
We also have some ridiculous fans who need to get their heads around the fact that we will get beat much more than we did last year.
Great live stream to watch the game and just a shame we only started to attack in the last 15 minutes and could have snatched the draw at at the end. Obviously Fuller changed it for us and gave us that extra attacking option because I don't think Camp had to do anything until Ricardo came on. We were a bit ragged with our passing at times but thankfully we have a pretty strong defence as Forest did not have that many clear cut chances. Gutted I am missing the next game!!
We looked 2nd best for long periods, bit worrying personally. Perhaps if we can sign RC with a big promotion bonues/low wage...
Hope its just a learning curve
Comeon u reds!
Doesn't worry me. We WERE second best. They are better than us. Unless we're aiming for automatic promotion and 105 points we'd better get used to this happening. At least it wasn't Wallsall. (no disrespect).
First half we were as poor as I have seen for a long while I think we were scared of how good forest passed and moved
Hamer had a shocker for the first goal got caught out totally if you watch it he is out of position screaming orders just a second or two before he hits it then he is flat footed and still out of position as it hits the back of the net
We started better in the 2nd half but we were still 2nd best and that highlighted the frailties we have
When fuller come on the boys seemed lifted so be interesting to know if he has really impressed at training because the lift was evident
It's important the ball goes to his feet as that's when something can happen
Their second goal looked handball to me in the replay and when you consider a blooper by the keeper and a dodgy decision we could've nicked a win or atleast a point I ain't to despondent at all
I think some of our fans that don't travel need to man up grow some balls and stop being so negative when we go behind
Cook is very young and needs time he would not have started had Stephens been in the right mind to play
Jacko I fear for as he is too slow and I don't know if Powell will be willing to deal with that as he is captain
We havent played any sh*t teams yet in this division.
Are there any ?
That was exactly my thought when I read that comment!
Don't think there are any ***t teams - and I'm definitely including us in that. But I'd like to think that there are at least half a dozen who are no better than us and who are less well set-up and less well organised than CAFC.
Perhaps I'm being naive here, but I'm not panicking yet. When we failed to make the signings we needed over the sumer, I feared that teams like Birmingham, Leicester, Hull and Forest would all turn us over. And only one of them has.
I wonder how much we missed Stephens today? Aston Villa clearly perceived potential prem quality in him and perhaps they were right?
We got beaten only just with how it ended by a team with a budget of many times ours who im sure will be serious challengers for promotion, never mind but we move on, no need to panic we are still on for a nice mid table season(which is brilliant).
Only concern is the Jacko situation, he is one of are classiest deliverers of the ball but he does look a little slow for this division, tough call as i think his positives match the pace negative.
If Fuller is going to be as good as his cameo suggests and given the centre midfield is clearly our weakness then should we not be going 4-3-3/4-5-1, packing the centre-mid and getting our three good strikers all on the pitch?
Kerkar to start on the left in next match with jacko and Hollands in the middle and pritch on the right, pritch looked too lightweight to be in a central midfield battle, forest will go up this year, Kerkar and Fuller changed the game, Solly on Wiggins seemed to just get walked passed IMO, good last ten minutes, poor performance for 80 mins.
One other criticism, why did Powell play bwp on the Wing most of the game, what was he thinking
Sorry for the hysteria on the match thread guys.. I havnt slept for 48 hrs ( no excuse) and I think i was a bit shocked by quite how uninvolved we were during that first half...
Fuller was a massive positive and evn kerkar... Unfortunately I can now see what people are talking about re Jackson, but it is clear the tempo seems to be JUST a little bit beyond him, however if he hit some form he could still cover that over IMHO ...
Kerkar looked good too I thought ...
I liked The shots of Powell deep in thought and discussion I think he can get the best out of this group and do well for us this year ... Comfortable mid table ...
I suspect that shows how far away most of our players are from Premiership quality -which is hardly surprising as they were all div three journeymen last season.
Fuck me. Astounding.
Why thank you, Off-it. Always delighted when CL's most skilled analyst comments on something I've said ! lol,,,
First half was painful to watch. Forest had way too much for us and it looked like men against boys. Needed a tactical switch much earlier than it came. When a side finds itself in that sort of situation an extra man in midfield is usually a sure way of stemming the tide. Hamer was clearly at fault for the goal and it badly effected him, he looked very very nervous throughout the rest of the half.
Second half was marginally better. Have to say Forest definitely took their foot off the gas though. Having said that the 4-5-1 was much better than this ridiculous diamond formation.
As already said, Fuller looks quality. Whether he'll be able to do that in any more than cameo appearances remains to be seen.
Clear for all that we are crying out for some quality in the centre of midfield. Hollands and Pritchard just weren't in it today. Hopefully we can do something in the loan market.
I won't write Jackson off just yet, but have to say, I had concerns about his ability to step up and at the moment they look well founded. He looks a yard short and his passing has gone to pot completely.
The Cook on the right situation just baffled me. He is a left sided player or a forward. We have Danny Green sitting on the bench so why aren't we playing him?
Worried about whether we have enough goals in the side at this level. Unless Fuller stays fit we may have an issue.
Positives - both fullbacks stuck at it defensively despite a total lack of protection. Solly also tried to get forward in the second half.
Is it just me, but do all of the sides we have played so far look much bigger than us physically?.
Forest much the better side and clear auto promotion contenders but at least we gave it a go 2nd half. Don't think we should have any ambition but mid table and it's important we must 'beat the sides around us' not to get drawn into a relegation fight.
Powell's going to need to use the squad he's got wisely because several players are going to get tired very early in the season if they have to chase shadows like they did today.
I hate to say this, believe me I do... Johnnie Jackson is possibly the best League one Captain going, and possibly one of the worst championship left mids going.
Just got into Hooters after the game, gotta say 1st out played by a mile, 2nd half played football and didn't give them time and put our foot in. Think there was a foul in the build up to the 2nd goal on wiggins. Fuller looked a different class, Solly played his heart out as normal. Can't complain about the result they are a very good team, Now back to looking at boobies
hope updates were ok....as Palarse is on TV I'll be taking the night off.....be back with match thread for Derby away on 19th.
Cheers RedM
Red...another great job today. I'll be in Derby for the game, so I'll be ok for updates. The rest of your following might need you on Tuesday 18th though, unless the games been moved & I need to rebook trains & hotel!!
Because Forest played with a bit of pace, our backline dropped too deep which isolated our front 2 - leaving our 2 CMs exposed with too much ground to cover between our defence and strikers.
Hence our almost total lack of midfield linkup play - before Cook moved into the hole and BWP went wider late in the 1st half.
During the 2nd half, the team played closer together as a unit, but still there was no CM imposing himself on the game, as both Pritchy and Jacko looked lightweight.
The thing is, once we began taking the game to Forest late on, their defence showed signs of panic.
Liked the look of Fuller, not afraid to run with the ball and imposing presence - I'd forgotten what a big unit he is! Let's hope he keeps fit.
a number of CL'ers are saying how much better we were with Fuller playing, as I didn't see the match can someone tell me what Fuller did that BWP didn't to make it so much better

Watching Leicester vs Blackpool right now and we are in a bloody good league that's for sure can't wait for the palace game
Watching it on tv is a poor substitute to being there
Is it internationals this week and palace next
;-)
