hamer is a confidence based keeper and i hope todays blooper doesn't knock him back but wisens him up that it isn't as easy as he sometimes thinks
anyway as said above i actually only think peterboro are a shit team in this league and we will be one of 12 trying to avoid the other two relegation spots
the midfield is slow imo and not sharp enough to keep up with most sides in this league for 90 mins... defence and attack will be what carries us to safety(hopefully)
with palace and the scum winning , our south london supremacy has been short lived and unbelievably we could be bottom of the(south london) pile if it goes tits up against palace friday week
i know it's too early but lose that one and i personally will be worried.... which doesn't mean to say the rest of you can't still think we're gonna stay up easily/walk the league /or meander in the middle
0% top 6 .....20% 7th-12th .....65% 13th-21st .... 15% the abyss
a number of CL'ers are saying how much better we were with Fuller playing, as I didn't see the match can someone tell me what Fuller did that BWP didn't to make it so much better
He is a huge unit. Within 10 seconds of coming on he had the ball at his feet and went on a powerful run. He continued to impose himself on the game and had another couple of runs where he easily shrugged defenders off. Clever movement for the header which led to the goal.
If Chris Powell has one blind spot it's when to use his subs. Blatantly clear from early on that the starting team wasn't at the races and he should have changed things miles earlier. Who knows what might have happened if Fuller and Kerkar had come on after an hour instead of with just 15 or so minutes to go.
your right, if he made his Substitutions before the 2nd goal or just after, we could have got something out of the game . But im sure as time goes on he well get better as he's still learning .
hope updates were ok....as Palarse is on TV I'll be taking the night off.....be back with match thread for Derby away on 19th.
Cheers RedM
Red...another great job today. I'll be in Derby for the game, so I'll be ok for updates. The rest of your following might need you on Tuesday 18th though, unless the games been moved & I need to rebook trains & hotel!!
;-)
Oops!!! I meant 18th what a numbskull!!! Sorry guys (and gals of course)
Pritchard played whole game like a centre mid leaving right exposed all first half. Second half BWP filled in there very well, and Kermie did okay. Fuller and Kerkar very dangerous and for most parts restricted them to very little. Reid was almost untouchable and whole forest side played well. Could have been a lot worse
First half we just dropped too deep which meant that our towards and midfield just had too much ground to cover. As a result they could never put a foot in and we made them look like Brazil.
Second half we got it down much better (and having Dale in the team would certainly help with that).
All in all I am actually quite heartened that we nearly scraped a point away at one of the best teams in the league and if Fuller can provide a consistent impact, then we will be fine.
Just got into Hooters after the game, gotta say 1st out played by a mile, 2nd half played football and didn't give them time and put our foot in. Think there was a foul in the build up to the 2nd goal on wiggins. Fuller looked a different class, Solly played his heart out as normal. Can't complain about the result they are a very good team, Now back to looking at boobies
How I saw it pal but without the titties unfortunately
The first 80 minutes was the one of the worst Charlton performances I've seen from Charlton since CP took charge.
We were all over the place and could and maybe should have been 3 down by half time.
We couldn't keep possession , and when we did have it not much happened.
Credit to Forest , they had a lot of the ball and made us look a league 1 side.
The charlton fans were a bit patchy with the singing as well compared to last season, whether that was because we weren't creating much and they didn't have much to shout about, probably.
Forest will be right up there at the end of the season, I thought they were very wasteful in front of goal and we got a battering, we missed Dale bigtime, and Pritchard was one of many who struggled ( even Solly had a poor game by his standards.
But the last 10 minutes when Fuller came on gave me hope , we suddenly clicked and started doing all the things we weren't doing before, put in more performances like that and we'll be fine.
Play like the first 80 minutes and we'll be in a relegation dogfight.
CP and the players are still learning at this level , lSt season was much more fun dominating and besting teams, this season is a lot tougher so far but we are evolving still, hope we can beat Palace.

Its going to be a long season for us in this league with this squad of players, that is my view so far 4 games in ,we need to add to our midfield before its to late.
Comfy in this division: Hamer Solly Wiggins Morrison Hollands Pritchard Stevens Kermorgant BWP Fuller
Jury still out on these: Kerker JJ (sorry but it has to be said!) Cort Haynes (To be fair he had a cameo but did very little today)
worried about him: Cook
I wouldn't worry about Cook. He's a striker/winger, not a wide midfielder. Frankly Powelly shouldn't have put him in the position where he would be required to track back and sit more. I imagine he was only moved into the starting 11 as of yesterday so he likely didn't have much time if any to train in that role. Does make me wonder where Green was
He was running up and down the touch line trying to get on . What does he have to do to get a game prob the best crosser of the ball at the club and our strikers are not getting the service. Playing players out of position never works , made cook look poor today.
Why continue to play 2 up top if the midfield is being over-run? BWP hardly touched the ball in the first half. Maybe CP needs to work on playing 5 across the middle sometimes........especially away from home.
You can't play players out of position when there are players on the bench that know their job and expect not to have critics. It's not the players fault none of them go out to play badly.
Woeful in the first half, not helped by Powell changing the formation on three occasions. Never a free kick leading to the first goal, but Hamer is more than at fault for the goal. Best thing to happen in the first half: The ref blew for half time.
2nd half, another new formation, but with a 4-5-1 it looked slightly better. Putting Haynes on the left for Cook did not work. As soon as Forest got the 2nd, they put the cues on the rack and like the rest of us thought the game was gone. Until the introduction of Fuller, which suddenly turned us into an attacking threat which led to getting one back, but sadly time run it's course.
Scoreline flattered us today, but hopefully lessons have been learned.
We keep saying every game that "we wont play many more teams like this". Well we need to hope that Forest are right at the top, because in truth they were A LOT better than us. Fuller was a positive, as was Kerkar. But I dont like the way people on this board shoot someone down as soon as they mention anything related to Jacko struggling. I really believe that he wont play more than 15 games max this year. We need to bolster the midfield big time, and lets hope the board backs Powell on this. It is key we do this, as I think up front and at the back we are ok.
First Half- Forest were class, Gilllet in particular controlled the game and our midfield was all over the shop. The goal didn't look like a free-kick from where i was sat, admittedly I was a long way away in the forest stand. No creativity from our point of view but BWP still looked dangerous.
Second Half- Powell seemed to change up the midfield with Jackson moving into the centre which seemed to work much better. The referee lost control of the game despite it not being particularly dirty, Simon Cox was pretty pathetic and got what he deserved despite a blatant dive from Hamer. The substitutes definitely mixed things up and Fuller looked a class above when he came on. Didn't see what all the cuffufle was about for the Forest second goal
All in all pretty dissapointing but we didn't deserve anything more really and desperately needed Stephens IMO.
Didnt understand why Cook was given the right midfield slot over both Green and Waggy. He was far too ponderous and easily robbed of possession. Neither Pritch or JJ are wide players at this level either. Forest had width and used it well and I felt both our full backs could have had more energetic support from the midfield. Reid gave a masterclass in how a classy fat bloke can find space and use it. We need a player like him. Nice to hear the travelling faithful give him a hand at the end.
Also SCP needs to be bold enough to make changes sooner when we are being overrun like that. I hope he learnt plenty today because I would like to see us playing fluent stuff like Forest.
I rarely if ever slag off the team unlike some of the other miserable posters on here, I'm due a moan! I only speak as I find , it's only one game, and yes we are going to loose plenty of games, people are way too touchy about warranted criticism.
This was the first Charlton game I've seen since I moved to Dubai almost two years ago. The last game I saw live was CP's first game after being appointed. I must say that I was pretty shocked at how poor we were until the two late substitutions. We looked lightweight across the pitch & I was struggling to see where goals would come from. I was, however, very impressed with Forest &, amongst a number of others, I though their RB Hutchinson was excellent. He's on loan from Chelsea apparently. Forest seemed so much bigger, faster & stronger than us in all parts of the pitch. I can only hope that I caught them on a bad day. Fuller did look different class in his cameo performance though.
if palace beat us they'll prolly be involved at the top end .... i mean at some point we'll play someone who will end up near the bottom !
Palace will be lower down, so far we have played Birmingham who were in last years play off's, Hull who have Steve Bruce who has been told that they must get promoted & the 2 richest and most free spending clubs in the division all things considered we have had a fantastic start with 5 points from that.

Still room for us to become the new Stoke.

We lost a game of football ladies, we are probably going to lose another 15 or so this season too, maybe even more, so get used to it.
We are finding our feet at this level but having got 101 points last season we are probably a decent enough side.
Man up FFS and show the team/manager a bit of respect.

We have a big enough squad, but it really lacks quality in depth.
With a board no money this won't change, so keep doing those lottery tickets eh.
So it's gonna need balls on, and probably more off the park judging by some on here.
Although if you think it's bad on here avoid twitter.
Some are so thick they still think the world is flat if they were told it is....
Onwards...

No panic. Plenty of teams will lose to Forest.
