Have to say I prefer the group logo to the sub-division logos, but as it's not a household name just having the group name wouldn't be great advertising. From a graphics design point of view they could do with a refresh, gradients are very 90s/early 2000s, as are logos with swooshes/curves of some sort (around 2000 every company had some sort of swoosh, BT, Sky, etc.)
It could have been a good idea to do a rebrand/update at the same time as a major sponsorship/advertising push, but obviously that would cost more money, and could cause some loss of brand recognition in their existing markets, so a tricky thing to get right.
Really liked the look of the shirt before we got that hideous sponsor design on it. Doubt I will buy it for me and my son now. Maybe when I see it in the club shop I will change my mind but not too sure.
TBH this has caused me some amusement. I think that this has taken the wind out of the sails of those lads who worry to much about looking cool in front of their mates rather than what financial benefit it might bring to the club.*
If you don't like it - buy a scarf and polo shirt instead!
Great to have got a local business as sponsor and what sounds like a decent deal to boot. Really could not care less whether the firm is seen to be "sexy" or not.
Linked to sponsorship but not Charlton related, I used to play Sunday league footy and my team decided to get a sponsor for the year. We asked for £200 and wrote to all the local restaurants promising in return to hold our Christmas and end of Season do's at their restaurant - minimum 30 people (players plus partners)...I remember being happy to hear from the favorite local Indian resaurant who expressed an interest in seeing us. When we turned up their first question was which of the divisions in the Football League we were in - they thought we were a League 1 or 2 team! Negotiations stopped there. Lol
Good news that a local firm wants to be the main shirt sponsor, though I would like to seen at least a 2 year deal, but in the current climate we should be grateful on any deal.
Bad news is the logo on the shirt which makes the kit look like Welling United. Hopefully there is still time for a more funky font.

This is why it matters to have a nice looking shirt, because if it's not a lot of people won't buy it.
Might sound like a simple question, but what can we assume the implications of having the second best kit sponsorship in the league??? Does this suggest we have persuaded them we are going to invest and try to push on up the league? Or perhaps we have had to go hunting for a better kit sponsor because of our lack of money compared to others in the league????
Also where does it actually state this is the second best kit sponsor?
Just think, in a few years we can all look back and say it was one of the worst kits ever, goes down in the hall of shame but at least we got promoted with it ha ha
does it stand the would i be seen dead in it test? hmmm
FAIL
we were doing so well with the Nike brand, then came the dull design and the somewhat obscure sponsor made far worse than it need to be by the poor logo, ah well I guess it was all a bit last minute (remind me why that was?)
roll on the following season's redesign/sponsor
(no offence to the air con folk)
No offence - but your logo is utter crap and we already appear to hate you
I'm sure they can't possibly take offence to that. Absolutely not.
We've secured a shirt sponsor in a time of recession - it's a local firm, Charlton supporters. By all accounts its a decent fee for the club. I really don't know what's up with some of you lot
I find this 'second best kit sponsor' stuff hard to believe, when you look at some of the other clubs in the league (e.g. Leeds, Birmingham, Leicester, Derby, Forest, Wednesday, Cardiff) leaving aside the 3 relegated clubs.
Am a I right in saying that this is a 1 year deal, whereas the new generic home kit will last 2 years?
I know, i feel embarrassed that they might be reading this.
Im just grateful someone input some money into the club.
Yep....it's like a 50 year old, skint, beer bellied virgin with halitosis moaning that his blind date's tits are slightly too big. (apologies if that description is a little close to the home for some on here ;-) )
I personally dont like the shirt much but will no doubt buy it for the gym, lounging around at home and to be honest if I was trying to look cool or was worried about street cred wearing a Charlton replica shirt wouldnt do you any favours even if you were sponsored by Googlebook or whatever da kidz are into these days.
Indeed. People are going to wear it playing football or at the football, it's hardly a fashion statement & unless your nights out consist of drinking cider in the park or smoking crack on the bench outside of the nearest Wetherspoons, it's hardly a design to make such a fuss about.
I know Charlton fans love a replica shirt, would be interesting to know how much revenue each year is gained from shirt sales and how much of an impact it has on the clubs finances - we're not talking on the scale of United, Liverpool, Arsenal etc.
Nothing rose tinted about it. The shirt is fine, if a little plain (which could be a plus/minus depending on your point of view) and made by a big name as many have been calling for for years. The sponsor logo isn't great (from a graphic design point of view), but it's not ugly, it's not embarrassing, it's not a dodgy company we wouldn't want to be linked with. It's just a typical logo like that of many service and manufacturing companies, i.e the company name and a simple logo.
So all in all the kit is OK. Maybe not the best we've ever had, but those saying it's the worst we've had for years are just spouting mindless hyperbole.
I'd say it's no worse than many of those, better than some. If you're going to buy or not buy the shirt because of the sponsor then you really need to look at your priorities.
If you are reading this, thank you for your interest in our football club, you've have resolved the pressing issue of us requiring a sponsor.
On a completely separate note your logo is awful and it's made our very dull kit look even duller, and I didn't think that was possible. Fortunately I run a branding & design company that's offering you, the new sponsors of my beloved club, a special deal on any work.

SYKES PUMPS
Goals past your keeper
Just need to sign a prolific goal scorer called SYKES now...

Couldn't care less what it looks like
Krbs looked like we were waitIng for him to return
How much is it worth is all I care about
I agree it looks very cheap and amateurish but such is
