Personally couldnt care less if we were sponored by a local kebab shop, as long as it benefits us financially, just over 18 months ago we would have cut our arms off for a decent sponsorship package, which is allegedly the 2nd best in the CCC.

We could have the local fish shop again :)

At least it's not Wonga or Cabrini.

Christ, talk about mountain out of molehill.

Some people think that the shrt this year with that sponsorship on looks naff. of course the financial benefits outweigh that, but people are entitled to their opinion, and shouldnt be twisted as a slight on the individuals and company involved.

We all support the club buy we don't all religiously have to like absolutely everything to do with it.
No we don't but describing a multi-million pound company as a "pub" sponsor or that it looks like a kids team sponsored by a dad is going way way over the top.

If someone had said the CL sponsorship of the academy minibuses was cheap and nasty and ruined the whole look of the bus how would you have felt? Laughed it off maybe but I doubt it would encourage you to do it again.

I wouldn't worry what the logo looks like on the shirt. Few things that we should take note of.

Well established company who are one of the leaders in their field of work. Local company to the club which is good for the community, rather than having some company who we have no identity with. They are floating on the stock market in which would suggest they have money behind them. They have grown and developed as a company branching out into different sectors, they no doubt feel they have grown as much as they can within themselves and are now looking at external promotions. Andrew Sykes has been associated as well within advertising at the club for a few years.

Gets a thumbs up from me.
For a club like Charlton which has always had good links to the local community, I thought this would be right up your street. A local company with links to the club paying good money. Something that gives you identity rather than the run of the mill corporate sponsors.

We had a similar thing wth CYC, good for both of you, better than McDonalds or Dyson etc.

I don't like the shirt but at least we're all slagging each other off again about something Charlton-related rather than the Royal-related insults we have had these last few days.

No idea, vaguely remember reading somewhere it was going to be the 2nd best in the CCC this year.

Local firm, when the pumps factory was going I had a few friends work there.
Good to see sponsors putting money in, I would think there are many clubs being a little bit green with envy

good, we have a kit sponsor who cares about the Club not some mega conglomerate whose MD has probably never even heard of the Club his company is sponsoring or even heard of soccer or understands that there is promotion/relegation in certain divisions etc

and those figures above are not to be sneezed at.

Not really sure why some are 'underwhelmed'? Is it underwhwlemed in the sense that you don't think it looks good on the shirt in which case grow up, if its in terms of who the sponsor is well it seems like its a decent deal for the club and really who were you expecting, as was mentioned earlier we have rarely had any household names.

Oh and by the way, told you all it wouldn't be The o2 ;-)

After reading the report on the OS I have to say that Sykes ARE a big international company (what some people were hoping for) and if they bring money into the club then good on 'em.

If I buy a shirt it's usually the away one so looking forward to what that looks like.

Are they just sponsoring the home shirt? They way it is stated on website it appears that way. If this has been discussed then sorry, on a train and wifi is sh*te

They've got a number of companies/brands - one of their subsidiaries is likely to be the other sponsor.

Nothing wrong with a local sponsor .. it could have been worse .. it could have been 'wonga' or some other bunch of legalised thieving , pawnbroking .ankers

EDIT: Sorry Mort, only saw your post after I'd posted

Better than having an online bookies imho, but no wow factor....

We are never going to attract a high end 'name' corporate shirt sponsor. We couldn't even when we were in the Prem previously.

It makes a crap shirt look even worse. As for the sponsors themselves I'm glad we have opted for someone local and that has a history with the club.

I'll probably end up buying it as well because my home Macron shirt that I bought 2 years ago is falling to pieces.

I think it would be better if it had say Andrew Sykes Group or something rather than Andrews Air Conditioning

    Good deal for a year.

(sorry if I'm repeating views from above)

does it stand the would i be seen dead in it test? hmmm

    FAIL

we were doing so well with the Nike brand, then came the dull design and the somewhat obscure sponsor made far worse than it need to be by the poor logo, ah well I guess it was all a bit last minute (remind me why that was?)

roll on the following season's redesign/sponsor

(no offence to the air con folk)

Given the much publicised 'economic downturn' it's good to see that a company involved in engineering and manufacturing has had both the good sense and a good few quid to sponsor a club which is on the up again. Thanks Andrews. We are now sponsored by a 'real company, not a money lender, alcohol seller or off shore 'casino' operator.

Worst. Shirt. Sponsor. Ever. From a purely aesthetic point of view. Brings the shirt right down to L1 level! Still, if it's worth good money and helps the team blah blah blah. I'll still buy the shirt, but bloody hell, this is the most boring looking shirt sponsor we've ever had. And yes, I DO remember Redbus.

Don't understand Andrews' interest in getting a footy sponsorship though... I'm no business expert, but surely we're not their target audience? Or maybe they think we're all builders?

Have a look on their site. Click on the Air Conditioning link, and it gives us the sponsor. So click on the chillers, boilers etc and it gives their other brand logos.

What do we fancy for the away? Sykes Pumps? Andrews Dehumidification?

Well done to the marketing team on landing a new sponsor in these tough economic conditions.
  • Options
Well at least everyone has something to moan about again. Do people actually stop to think that even when given a 'custom' kit, you end up with that hiddeous effort UTD have ?

Fans and replica wearing herberts arent the target audience. We are playing in the second flight of English football and our shirt will no doubt appear on tv programmes and in national newspapers and depending on our level of success that kind of exposure would cost a fortune in general advertising.

Branson didnt sponsor the nigels with Fly Virgin because he wanted to corner the Croydon air travel market he did it to gain exposure. When they played in the cup final that year (and the replay) they would have had a worldwide audience more than likely and that's what they pay the money for.

We'll just ask him to change the name of his company then

Amazing how some on here will not say a single bad word about this club come hell or high water. No matter how big or small ,they can find no way of taking off there cafc rose tinted glasses.
In many ways its just as annoying as the mob who spend all their time spouting vitriol about the club on a constant basis.

Now the kit don't bother me either way but they have managed to make this look one of the worst I've seen in many a year.

    It could be worse.

Honestly it doesn't bother me who sponsors the club, well played to them. But I think it does matter how they are presented....

Agree with Sparrows and quite a few of our own on here. We've just had a great year, have a spirit that's been missing for way too many years and a feelgood factor about the place. We've finished higher than the season before for the first time in seven years and we have signed new money-raising deals with first Nike and now Andrews-Sykes. One a global behemoth and the other a good local firm, with a wider presence than most of us would realise.

We're in the middle of a recession and the year is only likely to get harder for many and we have a strong local business willing to invest in us for the benefit of both.

I'm delighted we have been able to do a deal with a strong local business, who have supported us for many years. I'm a grown man and don't wear colours anyway, but I have no problem with offering a platform for a local business to widen their own exposure and, hopefully, help grow their business.

Roll on the new season... :-)
