  • Robbo the solution is simple. Don't light a cigarette when you are at The Valley. It's not impossible to refrain for an hour and a quarter is it ? What do you do on an aeroplane ?
  • If you want a solution I suggest you email the club with a few ideas of your own.
I for one am fine with the law as it is.

    Get you.
Call the ink ipolice, someone's lit a cigarette in a no-smoking zone.
    Dick
well hopefully they'll never be another Bradford.
That goes without saying. Although I don't think it is the fire risk that is behind the particular ban

  • What annoys me is that a ground not too far from here, has to build a subway to escort away fans from their ground safely, yet we can manage to pick a fight amongst ourselves for smoking.

All I ask is that things are put in perspective, and if there is a problem with smoking, suggest a solution rather than smugly suggest banning people for carrying out the activity.

So your one of those who leaves early?

Why don't you write to your MP if you feel that strongly about it. Or you could always suggest your own solution rather than call people "c****", "f***ers" and "dicks". Not gonna get much support with that stance.
  • There are some fucking sorry cunts on here. So smoking in a toilet isn't ideal, but introduce an area that people can. The east stand is wide open, yet you cannot smoke there.
Lets write an e-mail and tell everyone how disappointed we are (of people smoking).
How about writing a message offering possible solutions.
There are some depressingly sorry fuckers on here.

No need for that, is there?
    Maybe not, i apologise.
It does wind me up though. We have a good group of supporters, yet people still dig.
    FFS, what next?
  • Robbo. I must be one of the posters who shout loudest against smoking at The Valley but I don't want to see anyone banned. I think those who do smoke should have a little more consideration for their fellow fans and for the possibility that their actions might actually cost the club a fine but if I'm honest I don't feel the need to find a solution. It is the club that is at fault here. The stewards should be instructed that smoking is not allowed and that's the end of it. If there are solutions the club can think of that would accommodate the smokers at half time outside the stadium then that's fin by me.
  • Seems to me that Robbo needs to have a fag and chill the fcuk out.
Hahahaha. I have no sympathy for smokers, but as long as the smoking area does not allow any smoke to go anywhere near me, get the selfish gits out of the toilets.
For christs sake, come up with a solution rather that a confrontation.
    Touché, Robbo. Touché.

  • Robbo, smoking is a habit that you and others obviously enjoy BUT why shoud CAFC or anywhere else for that matter have to go to the expense of providing facilities for you to enjoy YOUR habit. I'm sure you could manage 90 minutes without a fag.
  • What annoys me is that the east stand concourse is wide open, yet a smoking ban.
Its although smoking is now illegal regardless of where you do it.
Sorry for the earlier outburst, but it bloddy annoys me when other grounds open exits at half time to allow people this pleasure, yet we have a carpet ban.
    That's me done,
Lets hope we don't have another Bradford? FFS....
  • So they can take their money at the gate?

People could go a couple of hours without beer and second rate fast food, yet they still want it.

aah but, they make the club money.

  • Isn't the easy solution here to stop smoking?

    You're welcome.

    So your point is?
I'm not wasting my time with you. Bradford? FFS...

    lol
  • My old man has got emphysema. I'll tell him to bring a bottle to piss in so people can continue to have a smoke in the bogs.

Selfish attitude and one I have been more than guilty of similar things myself in the past when i was a heavy smoker....and never gave a second thought about puffing away during games years ago before it was banned. Ceased doing it when i stopped and had a word with myself that perhaps kids/ supporters with lung cancer or just anyone shouldnt have to walk into it because people want to have a smoke.

Sensible option is to do a wycombe with an area outside and perhaps could be funded by those who want to smoke at a game.
  • If you don't want to waste your time don't ask.
Bradford was caused by a discarded cigarette.
The club will provide any facility that makes them money, unfortunately smokers don't.

  • Charge smokers an extra £50 per season for a smoking pass to go outside.
  • couple of prats in the toilet before the game yesterday using the cubicle for a fag rather than let me and my little girl use it....I had words with them !

    MOG will be happy. NOT!
  • Those that indulge in their grubby little disgusting habit will eventually cost the club a fine. Not much I'm sure but a fine of let's say £10,000. That's my season ticket money for the next thirty years. Up in smoke in fact.
Happens at every club in the country, yet to know of any club that's been fined yet.

I didn't think smoking was banned by law in football grounds anyway, I thought it was an initiative brought in by all football clubs to coincide with the ban?

  • People know there not suppose to smoke there's signs up in the ground I suggest people learn to read
  • The non-smoking in any part of the ground is part of the stadium's licence regardless of arguments about how inconsiderate the smokers are being.

That could be re-negotiated but the Club would have to satisfy the Council and the Police that there no safety or crowd issues related to having smoking areas in the street. There the issues of people gaining re-entry or even entry without tickets for example.

There is also the cost of staffing 4 smoking areas (if you have one for the Covered End then you need to offer the same for the JS, East and West)plus the barriers and waste disposal bins etc plus the cost of cleaning up as residents may not like the idea of piles of dog ends in their streets.

The Council view, whether you agree or not, would most likely be that these are extra duties so require extra stewards.

There is a Safety Advisory Group at the Valley made up of CAFC staff, the police, LB Greenwich, ambulance service, the Football Licencing Auth and others. They also have Addickted as a member now I believe to represent fans plus another fan who is not, I believe, a Lifer.

If you feel you have a solution that stays within the operating licence for the Valley, doesn't cause a health and safety or crowd control risk and most importantly you can come up with a way of funding that long term then let Addickted or john.little@cafc.co.uk know.

saw someone complain to a steward at half time about the smoking, steward said they were dealing with an incident in the nwq area, so if we wernt fighting amongst ourselfs at halftime then the stewards would have had more presance at half time.
  • What do these people do on a flight? Do planes provide smoking areas now?

I think it's sad that people can't go 2 hours without having a fag.
  • What I can't stand is the amount of smokers outside after the game , in a tightly packed crowd moving slowly, with their cigarettes down by their sides. I've lost count of the amount of times they've burned my daughters clothing or mine for that matter. I'm tired reminding the kids to be careful of irresponsible smokers. Kids are so much lower in a crowd and in danger of getting a nasty burn on their face or arms . I've had words with many smokers after games telling them to lift their cigarette up or put it out and watch out for the kids. Not one has ever apologised for burning the clothing and all them have whinged, pulled faces and got very protective of their precious cigarettes. It doesn't bother me at all about smoking in toilets, inhaling second hand smoke or even brushing their fags against me but the kids are a different matter. Pisses me right off.
