The guy has barely played a game of football in 6 months comes on with the team struggling and a centre back playing behind him and gets slated yet he still made a few things happen
Green has been rubbish for 6 months living off a goal at Yeovil yet he was bought to supply the strikers and consistently never does it always looking to shoot
Beckham wannabe and the most overrated player in the league
I'm convinced had we stuck with Solly and Waggy we would be in an even better position
Obviously everyone has there own opinions (as it shows so diversely on here!), and as much as I don't want to go against a fellow Essex lad from up the road, I disagree with every word of your statement.
It made me laugh that as soon as Green had a couple of average games, people were calling for the wonder that is Wagstaff to be re-called. As I have stated before, one's a footballer, one's a long distance runner!
I expected to see a slaughtering of Evina on here today but am pleased his performance has been seen with a degree of perspective. He was responsible for the goal, but the pass he received was poor too.
Overall the partnership that fiered us in the early part of the season is now letting us down. Maybe the babies are taking their toll on both Hollands and Stephens but the centrl midfield seems to have all the negatives of the Pardew Parkinson era.
The key thing is that we are going through a blip but still not losing, if and I do not think it is a big if we can turn it around then we will quickly forget about the last few weeks.
I don't understand the absence of both Russell and Hughes and feel we need those types of midfielders at least on the bench, and there are lots of things to nit pick, however we are top of the league, by a margin and we have the where withall the sort things out.
I'm not panicking, not really worried, but would like to see us get back to winning ways soomer rather than later and be entertained.
BWP gets caught far too often offside, a striker of his abilities should be more aware of where the opposition backs are. BWP has the pace over short distances, if he gets the ball, he should be able to pass his marker. So unless he has eye problems, he should try to stay onside more.
Some brilliant post on this thread, sadly I haven't had time to read them all.
In summary last night was awful but we have enough points and a big enough gap to allow this to happen. Stevenage has become more important as a result and if Jacksons back I'll be very confident that things will be turned about. I was confused by Powell's subs and wonder how Hayes must be feeling right now.
Firstly, not a disaster but disapointing. However, another point towards our goal and not beaten. In terms of what went wrong last night, I do agree with a lot of the comments on here - Wiggins is too left footed to be a right back and always has to cut inside. His attacking skills are very important in these sort of games and we needed him on the left. If you are going to play somebody out of position at home to Rochdale, why not use Waggy as an attacking right back. I know he isn't a defender but you are not going to be put under siege in a game like this and the balance of the side would have been much better offensively.
What a great free kick btw.
Totally agree, as I think Waggy might find right back is his ideal position, given his lack of a trick or crossing ability.
Unfair criticism of many players who suffered from playing in a side lacking balance, totally down to the manager.

Agree on Waggy. Think you are being slightly harsh on Green as he has done some good stuff but while his failings are ignored, Waggy contributions are also. Halo and horns
How long til Powell admits that Stephens and Hollands doesnt work? We've gone from completely turning over half decent teams, to struggling for a point against relegation candidates. We all know why, so why is Hughesy nowhere to be seen?
Waggy at RB? Surely the main thing yesterday taught us was we need to stop taking our players and shoving them into random positions all over the pitch.
To be fair, I think Sir Chris is not the sort to play an offensive player defensively - he sees a defender as a defender and an attacker as an attacker. I understand why that is, he will know as a top class left back that there is a craft and knowledge required that a forward can't be expected to have. I wouldn't play Waggy as a right back against a good side or away from home or if I had a right back available, but at home to a lesser side who are going to get bodies behind the ball and break quickly and not necessarily in great numbers, it was a good option because balance is important and it would have allowed us to play Green on the right and Wiggins on the left. We desperately needed a bit more quality in the wide positions last night to get around them.
Powell is a conservative manager is some respects and progressive in others - for instance- he is willing to change a winning team when he thinks it is needed. I think his approach may have cost us a couple of points last night but over the course of the season he is well in credit!
To be fair Muttley I doubt any of last night's changes were made willingly. In fact if Solly had pulled out earlier (which is not a criticism of him, just the way the cards fall sometimes) then a proper right footed, defensively minded player would have been in the squad (e.g. Hughes). It's just sod's law that both Solly AND JJ were out at the same time, just one of them and the balance of the entire team would have been so much better. Onwards and upwards, lessons learned.
Aw man, we were a bit rubbish last night weren't we? I hope that S-Dog and Jacko will be back saturday, otherwise we will have another embarrassing display in front of a large crowd.
Having scanned over the posts above i think its all been said. The biggest question though, even assuming that JJ and Solly are back Saturday is how do we get our attacking play back? Hayes and Waggy in for Kermo and Green were my solutions but there is no doubt that Kermo was the outstanding player (again) for us last night. It's a real conundrum but personally i would play the usual line up Saturday but swop Waggy in for Green. Cp has earnt the right to have a blip but if it isn't solved soon, i can't see us going up as Champs although think promotion is still pretty much in the bag.
The problem with the Stephens/Hollands combo is that neither knows who is supposed to be the defensive midfielder and the attacking midfielder. Stephens sits too deep, but his unwillingness to track back means Hollands is wary of venturing forward.
At least with Hughes Hollands knew he could rely on Hughes being there to cover the defence if we were exposed to a counterattack, it's no coincidence that most of Hollands' goals came when they were played together.
We need a very competative midfield for Saturday otherwise we could well come unstuck. I'd put Hughes in for Stephens as only change assuming Solly and Jackson start. Would have bench including Russell.

I agree with this post from EpsomAddick. It makes total sense and also Hughes allows the full backs to bomb forward as he fills the gaps left behind . Its almost like the team feels comfortable when he is in the team. About last night, a point is a point and another on the way to the target. Kermo was excellant again and I would love to see BWP stay on the whole gamebecause he is quality, just lacking decent service at this time. Nice to see Waggy get a run out. He never had enough time to get into the game and add to that the pressure put on our guys by the Rochdale players. Still good to have him back on the bench and wouldnt it be great if Hayes and Huges were there too on a regular basis.
I'm hoping like others are that Solly and JJ are back. I think we will need them. Saturday is a game where we can't go too gung ho unlike yesterday when I think we could have taken a few more risks than we did.
It wasn't great last night against a quite poor side (apart from Jones), but got a draw, and move on to Saturday. SCP is still cutting his teeth, every match he will learn from it. So to be top with a good side, not a great side ala Southampton, Brighton and Norwich of past seasons, respect to the players and coaches for such a great season so far.....One Aim
Cant add anymore to what has been written, think its all been covered. Was there last night,in the NWQ and thought their goal trickled in,just seen it on SSN and Wiggy put a great block in which actually sent it in the opposite side to where im pretty sure Hamer had it covered. Looking at it,I'm fairly certain Hamer wouldve saved it as their lad didnt hit it at all well. Yet another deflected goal against us this year, theres been a few! My honest opinion is that we are losing the midfield battles at the moment,no-one in there is doing the dirty work that Hughes/Russell do. I just dont think the Hollands/Stephens partnership is working, much the same as people say the Gerrard/Lampard pairing doesnt work for England. Im sure SCP and the team will work hard in training and iron out the deficiencies(sp). COYR!!
One of the group i go with (who shall remain nameless), sits in a different stand and we meet him after. His view was that CP has to go. He surpassed himself with that one. It would be great if he ever signed up on here.

Bit harsh on Colin Powell. I thought the pitch was pretty good considering the weather we've had.

And there was me thinking Chris Parkes had failed to register Messi on time.
