Powell is learning and has never been in this position before, he has never had the pressure of making a promotion bid stick... so overall this is a very good learning curve for him, as long as we go up obviously ...
The crowd booing is typical f******* idiot fans making the whole thing that much harder... Id love to take a snipers rifle and pick them off one by one ...
A loss is on the cards, and that may galvanise us or it could mean the wheels come off ... it is set up for us to take a decent loss in front of a packed house... that would be the charlton way ...
we have a long way to go and job will only get harder whilst on this form... we miss Jackson HUGELY ...
If this is our so called "blip" that everyone is meant to have during the course of the season then so be it, Id rather play poor and still be picking up a single point a game then coming away with 0 points. We've played 31 games and only lost 2! We've also missed arguably one of our most important players for the past two games. Were not going to go into every game and steamroll every team in front of us, There's times were going to have to settle/fight for a point instead of getting three, But as I said I rather we do that then coming away with bugger all.
I am I allowed to say I am now officially worried.
Are you worried that we're not going to win the league or not get promoted? From where I'm sitting I'd be more than happy with promotion. I just want to get out of this godamn keague. We're 11 points clear of Wendy with a game in hand. They'll lose to Utd on Sunday and with the GD that means means they'll have to win 4 more games than us just to catch up. Can you honestly see them doing that? For gawd sake, get a grip
Dale played some nice football at times, we tried to and times managed it. Solly came down with an illness very late and so CP had to do something, whilst I am not sure that his idea worked it may have. Our problem is that we have too many of our creative players out of form at the moment, Stephens is still not properly fit (it takes about ten games after a long injury to get back to where you were) and we miss our Captain when he is not there. Green has not been great for the last few games and really looked poor on the left, then Waggy came on and I was hoping he would really prove his point, but he spent the whole time moaning. Not great but we could have easily won and a better amount of shots on target than the last two home games.
Mate i know that we are all used to things going titts, and last night wernt good, but it will all be ok , this team are different they just dont get beat ,
We are in a good place and come end of the season we will be saying good bye to league 1
Firstly, not a disaster but disapointing. However, another point towards our goal and not beaten. In terms of what went wrong last night, I do agree with a lot of the comments on here - Wiggins is too left footed to be a right back and always has to cut inside. His attacking skills are very important in these sort of games and we needed him on the left. If you are going to play somebody out of position at home to Rochdale, why not use Waggy as an attacking right back. I know he isn't a defender but you are not going to be put under siege in a game like this and the balance of the side would have been much better offensively.
If we got the first we would have won comfortably but I thought if they grabbed the first we would probably only get the draw. They deserve a bit of credit, they were well organised, kept it tight and looked to break when they could - the best way to play us at the Valley and something we need to counter. Width is an important tool in doing that and our set up was too compromised. Hopefully Solly will be back on Saturday, we missed him most of all yesterday as his is the one position we don't have cover for.
Right firstly we were poor all over the park, SCP made a real mistake playing wiggins at rb,
Evina looked like a young lad who hasn't played all season
Green was way off the game but waggstaff showed why he has not been playing
Bwp looked bright got in the right postions and was unlucky Yann won everything and great goal
If you would've offered me being 7 points clear of 2nd and 12 clear of 3rd
If you would've offered me being unbeaten at home in still by mid Feb
If you would've offered me 4 points from mk dons and rochdale at home
I would've took the lot
And although we were shit their keeper made 2 great saves to keep it 1 all
So poke your booing up your arse
This team and SCP have earned the right to be shit, have a sticky spell even lose a few
Now get a grip and get on with it
Exactly and I am think I may have a small rest from forums for a bit. I want to be positive and enjoy the fact we are top, not listen to people going on about how crap we are all the time.
We should of been killing teams like Rochdale they were extremely poor but so were we! Wiggins was completely lost at right back as he always cut in to use his left, and Evina made far to many mistakes for my liking. Green also another play he was on the wrong side it just did not work for him!
Kermogant is the only form of attack, with a HOOF up to him all the time.
The only positives are we got a point towards promotion and BWP looked generally a threat in the first half.
Plus the idiot next to me screaming abuse at clarke and powell... should be ashamed give clarke a chance he hadn't even got on the field and you was judging him!
People seem to forget that because we are top of table that the opposition lift in order to get bagging rights. This team has only lost 2 games. Just shows what fighting spirit the team and CP have got. Let's stop the whinging and get behind them. Top of table will do me ( I haven't forgotten 2 seasons ago) COYR
As everyone has said, Wiggins at RB and Green at LW does not work. They are so 'one-footed' that they constrict play. That this was the case was obvious by the 30 minute mark so it is puzzling why no positional changes were made. I think the reason we played better with Hughes is that it allowed Hollands to play in a more advanced position in support of Yann and BWP as he knew Hughes would defend. Last night Stephens played deeper but he doesn't tackle so Hollands dare not go forward. I watched a number of times when Stephens let his opposite number race past him and he didn't chase which meant Hollands had to do it. Furthermore, Stephens slows the play by going sideways and back and when he does play forward it is often the spectacular (but unproductive) diagonal. Any chance we might have had to grab the winner disappeared with BWP (who put in another good shift) being replaced by Clarke. For those who adore Waggy, I'm afraid that he had 30 minutes last night and did nothing other than fall over and claim non-existent fouls. Yann was MOM by a country mile.
1. To often its the lump up to kermy looking for the flick on, if we are going to do this he needs to be more central to many times he was found out wide miles away from goal. 2. Wiggins was played right back it didnt work a not to be repeated exercise. 3. Evina looked a man that probably hasnt played a full 90 for god knows how long, had 30 minutes to prepare and didnt look it but not gonna right him off just yet. 4. I think we have real problems controlling cente mid the oppsoition team play 1 up top 3 in the middle and just null our engine room. 5. hollands looks leggy but has played nearly every this season but it may just be they are overwhelmed by that extra man. 6. green has to play on the right wing i thought waggy might have been keen to impress well all he improve was our appealing. 7. pritchard not a winger 8. Still we are in the middle of a fantastic season with plenty to play for but the goals have dried up from open play.
For me i would have real change up saturday in the forward positions.
Hughes, Stephens, Jacko, Clarke, yann, Bwp 4/3/3 we have also added physical prescence and height which they looked to do last time we played them.
A very loud wake up call for the management who got it terribly wrong last night and must shoulder the vast majority of the blame. I would normally defend a manager who has little control over the performance of players once they cross that white line but last night's tactics of playing people out of position and the 16 personel employed leaves little room for excuses in my eyes. Somebody on either this or another thread said SCP has a Curbs stubborness about him and after picking his team he seemed determined to prove he was right when clearly at half time it wasn't working. Kenny Jacket on BBC's Late Kick Off this week praised Charlton in the the pre season friendly for how balanced a side we were, just as well he made that observation before yesterday! A response against Stevenage is essential and hopefully Jackson and Solly will be available but if not I am sure SCP will be hard at it on the training ground looking for a better formation than he chose last night, Hughes, Russel, Hayes, Cort must all fancy their chances for a starting berth. We all make mistakes SCP made a big one last night but he's done a great job thus far and I have every confidence that he will lead us to pastures new. Onwards and upwards, COYR now go and get a win against the team who took your unbeaten record away!
Have no doubt Jackson will be back on Saturday. If Solly has the s**ts he'll be back as well. Those two back in and Hughes for Stephens and we get the 5-1 I have been predicting.
I understand he had a migraine. Should be ok for Saturday.
Solly dropped out really late, not even sure Hughes was an option at that point. I think it's always a mistake to make two changes when you could make one, and in hindsight perhaps Cort at right back might have provided a better option but I think the bigger problem was Green on the left. We really need cover for Jackson, perhaps Evina there might have been a better option if you're going to use him.
Unlike Clem I thought Green was woeful last night, totally agree Waggy was too but we needed urgency and energy and Green offered precisely nothing in that regard. Along with Stephens he seemed to think a lack of work is justified when you're clear at the top - 1-1 with Rochdale shows how wrong he was.
As for Stephens, he strolled around all night letting others do the work even when he lost the ball, which he did with alarming regularity. As good as he can be, even at his best he slows the game down and limits Hollands showing his best form. Get Russell or Hughes in to release Hollands and put Stephens on the bench.
The guy has barely played a game of football in 6 months comes on with the team struggling and a centre back playing behind him and gets slated yet he still made a few things happen
Green has been rubbish for 6 months living off a goal at Yeovil yet he was bought to supply the strikers and consistently never does it always looking to shoot
Beckham wannabe and the most overrated player in the league
I'm convinced had we stuck with Solly and Waggy we would be in an even better position
As mentioned in another post, Hayes frozen out, CP did the same with Benson until he got rid of him. Think CP needs to keep players in their correct positions and bring in at least one QUALITY striker.

Hayes is not going to make an impact from the bench and needed to start if he was going to feature. But that means dropping Yann, and frankly he's been our best player pretty much every game for several months now.
Booing when playing the ball all the way back to the keeper or along the back four is a disgrace in itself! Sometimes in football, you have to go backwards to go forwards. Build from the back. Why force it and give possession away?
If only that were true, I can understand the logic if we pass the ball back to "build from the back" but we don't, Hamer just hoof's it straight up to Kermit who wins it, knocks it down and then we lose possession.
Kermit was immense last night, he wins every thing in the air but where does it get us?
Somebody told me last night we have not scored a goal from open play so far in 2012, I don't have the will to check but if true it clearly shows the long ball and knock down is creating zilch.
lots of very good comments here in my opinion firstly we have got to go at he opposition at home from the start (especially lower teams)we seem to be waiting for things to happen rather than making them happen yes team was set up wrong ...i think that was poor selection hollands and stevens dont seem to work well together its hollands /hughes holland/ pritchard for me stevens obviously has talent but he was wasteful last night and i personally dont think he is the longterm answer

Lump it forward to the big man. IMO this is symptomatic of players lacking a bit of confidence at the moment. Instead of looking to play they bang it forward because it’s the easiest option.

Which is why we need added experience in midfield, especially with the absence of Jackson. Hughes and Russell have both been promoted from this league, one of them to steady the ship would have helped a lot last night. As the matchday programme highlighted so well!
disappointed by last night but credit to the Rochdale players who worked their nuts off.
team was wrong but not gonna bang on about that.
i hope the management team pick the bones out of this one and get it right for saturday.
think we are too impatient, Yann might win all these headers but they result in very little. would rather see us keeping the ball longer (despite the moaning of some of our support). we need to step the pace up from the off, whilst maintaining a passing game. we look so much better when we do things quickly, almost instinctively rather than settle in to the pace of play the other side dictates.
Complete lack of pace in midfield, I now think that Green, Stephens Hollands does not work, Powell tried to inject some pace when he brought Waggy on but other than falling over a couple of times and moaning at the lino did not do much in his cameo. Yann was immense, Centre-backs were fine, BWP did not do too much wrong but as far as I am concerned that static midfield is neither creating chances or supporting the forwards and that is why we are not scoring in open play. I would start with Waggy on Saturday as if nothing else he does move from the centre of the pitch.
Goals in open play at home to Brentford, Bury and goals away at Exeter and tranmere. Lets just forget the last few games and get on with it.
Stop the negativity people. I know this is Charlton and we worry but I am sure it will all be ok.
As I said Rob I did not have the will to check so happy to be proven wrong but I am not giving you Tranmere because the goal came from a set peice i.e. corner
