  • Im embarrassed to post it, but I will. Was told today that Jiminez has a £30m windfall coming from a golf complex in the south of France and the club have been in talks with Di Canio promising him a war chest. Sounds like crap to me, and it's a ridiculous notion. The source is pretty reliable. My view is that if this happened they wouldn't get any more money from me. I have posted this because I heard it, NOT MY RUMOUR.....</

Not doubting you maiscat but I agree it would be very strange. Firstly the club would lose all credibility in getting rid of Powell after the season we have had. As for a 30 million windfall. Well would you really want to blow it on football ? Nah. Not believing one iota of it.

  • Powelly has to take the blame for that. We weren't poor, just never looked comfortable with the set up as too manu players out of position.
But he's still learning and he's got us where we are this far. So deserves some slack, it's just frustrating.
Fair do's to rochdale, they came and played football but we were obviously the better team and they were there for the taking.

I'm not a big fan of green but after tonight i can't justify prefering waggy anymore.

If Powell learns from tonight that wiggins can't play rb, pritchard isn't a winger, and we do have other players to pick from then that's ok. Unfortunately i think it appears that he has his favourites who he wants to fit in no matter what, and others are being left out.

    Ah well, onwards and upwards.

  • Di Canio is running for Mayor of London.
    LOL, and needed to.

got to agree with NSS on playing three at the back and playing 5 in midfield and 2up top ,i honestly believe this would have been a better option and we would have been more effective going forward, but im not the manager powelly is and he has done superb up till now ,so im looking at it as another point gained just hope he picks the right side on saturday.

Poor. But it has been coming, hasn't it?

Six points from four games is not a disaster. But it's disappointing.

Can't really put my finger on what's wrong. Maybe Powell should spend tomorrow watching videos of what we were doing back in Oct/Nov and are not doing at the moment.

Because it was like going back to the Parky era tonight. We scraped a draw. But we did so without there seeming to be a coherent idea anywhere in the team as to what they were collectively trying to do.
  • Repeating combinations of players that doesn't work repeatedly is very frustrating as is naturally playing right sided players on the left and left footed players on the right. For the majority of players it just doesn't work.

A totally strange team selection. Surely we have a younger right back at the club, who can understudy Solly, if not maybe that weakness should have been addressed in January ?

Trying things and them patently not working is acceptable in a manager. Repeating mistakes again is not good. Lets hope that Chris Powell learns from the team selection mistakes.

Chris Powell still has to come up with a solution for the left side for when Jackson is not playing. Playing Danny Green on the left is not it.

I would have preferred Evina and Wiggins to Evina and Green.

Thats how not having a proper reserve team doesn't help. Some of these combinations can be properly trialed before being let loose in proper league matches.
  • I was hoping nobody else has heard this rumour. Five of us all agreed it's crap. The rumour monger said it has been round the club for a couple of weeks and would break as a story soon.
  • i think are getting very 1 dimentional knocking balls long in to kermo because the man is very good in the air i feel we really need to mix it up a bit more with our forward play seems we are playing the long ball quite a lot lately.
  • i think chris powell has been great this season but today he got it wrong ......badly.
    1) wiggins at right back...not a right back..... why?
    2) pritchard is not a right winger naturally drifts inside
    3) dale stephens is a creative player but not being put in positions to create
    4) green is a winger but isnt taking the fullback on/ or getting to the byline to put in good crosses
just a few things wrong which all result in a lack of creativity and quality into the strikers who are suffering due to these problems.
if we had no right back why did we not play 3 at the back with wiggins on the left, leon cort seems alright and would of done ok with taylor and morrison therefore putting round pegs in round holes.
if we win on saturday tonight wont seem so bad,so not overly worried yet ,but a negative result saturday will be putting ourselves under a bit of unwelcomed pressure.
  • I agree almost word for word with what Clem Snide wrote.

yes ive heard this rumour too from a strong source hope its not true.
If Jimenez has 30 million war chest then why not give it to Chris Powell for an additional decent striker, cover at right back and cover at left wing ?

Not a big fan of Di Canio, with all those far right leanings he has got.

  • See, obviously I wasn't there. But I listened to the commentary which included Bradley Allen, a lucid and intelligent ex-pro. And they just didn't see it the way some of you lot did. And don't tell me they don't tell it like it is. I remember that Bristol City game when Phil Parry called some of them a disgrace to the shirt.
I think vff is right about not having a reserve team, but its also just too bad that right back is the only position where we don't have pukka cover.
This patch was always going to come, but for heaven's sake, we haven't lost.

Spot on, inifective hoof ball which did not create a worthwhile chance all night. Rochdale played the ball on the deck all night including playing out from the back and this is what we need to get back too.
  • Think we've just been found out a little by other teams - seems we're struggling to dominate sides that play with 3 across the middle.

Someone with a bit more movement might help that out. Perhaps Hollands and Stephens don't complement each other enough and we should go back to Hughes and Hollands. When we played that way Hollands was making more forward runs and getting on the end of crosses.

No one from centre mid got into their box in open play tonight - so we were always going to struggle to score.

Too many players out of position and Stephens nowhere near the player he was pre-injury. He wasn't the only one off form but he is the one who makes us tick.

Have to laugh at the Waggy bashing. Yeah, must be his fault cos we were playing so well before he came on.

Great goal from Yann and their keeper made some other good saves but we really needed to finish them off and we couldn't. Credit to Rochdale who passed the ball well and threw their bodies in front of shots when needed.

This is not championship winning form but there is a long way to go yet. Keep the faith

There are obviously lies, damn lies and radio commentaries. Sorry Prague but this was not the sort of performance you expect from a top of the table side including the bizarre selections. Few too many bad days at the office lately for my comfort. No crisis but must do better.

  • We as fans have every right not to be happy with that performance today. We showed Rochdale too much respect. Why do we left the away team come at us in the first half? Why do we wait until we are a goal down to turn on the heat? If we don't get to where was before Xmas, we will be pulled right back into the chasing pack. We need to be winning these types of games.

    Onwards and upwards.
  • Rochdale played well today, closed us down really quickly and put pressure on our players. This pressure led to Evina losing the ball from a throw in where they capitalised on the break. I didn't think we played dreadfully, and we were definitely the better team towards the end, as we would expect to be. However they were very well organised.

What a great freekick by Kermogant - he won nearly everything in the air today as usual and I'm so glad he bagged a goal.

I personally would have had Waggy starting as I think he offers more than Pritchard on the wing (esp when we're at home). Having said that Waggy didn't look too great when he came on.

Unbeaten at home in the league.
  • I am I allowed to say I am now officially worried.
  • and if wasn't for there keeper making 2 world class saves, we pick up another 3 points.

It wasn't very good, but there are going to be points this season where its going to misfire, the shape and balance wasn't right, and we suffered for it. But I think we can turn it round, hopefully on Saturday, and then kick on for the rest of the season.

Sheffield United won't keep winning every week, and will have moments where it doesn't happen for them, in the same way us, Wednesday and Huddersfield have.

    Keep the faith

  • Was surprised at the quality of football displayed by Rochdale, and their desire to play a passing game.

Thought Yann was absolutely immense tonight, and Morrison is a player that is increasingly impressing me the more the season progresses.

    Couple of great signings there.
  • Powell got it soooooo wrong tonight. We had no balance and no width at all. After 10mins you could see it wasn't working. If an early change wasn't on the cards then it had to be changed at half-time.

Absolute madness playing Wiggins at right back. You loose so much from the left hand side. If you are looking for a player to sit and have a steady game at full back then surely Hughes needs to come in. I'd have played Morrison there before what we saw tonight. When you add the fact that Evina had an absolute shocker into the equation it doesn't help matters.

The subs were all wrong as well. How long did Green get on the right? He actually did ok on the left and was looking lively on teh right. Pritchard was the obvious switch - Wagstaff was utterly hopeless. It took him exactly 3 minutes to start moaning and another 5 to start diving. He offered nothing.

The substitution of Wright-Phillips was unbelievable. He looked sharp all night. Most of those there tonight witnessed the Clarke and Yann experiment against Bury and unanimously agreed that it was a disaster. Clarke is not mobile and struggles to hold the ball up. Really can't see what he brings to the table at all.

Rochdale looked dangerous on the break allnight. Their goal was a farce with Evina and Stephens being equally culpable.

Have to say that I'm not sure about the Stephens and Hollands partnership either. Hollands looks 10 times the player alongside Hughes and for me, Dale goes missing for too long in these sorts of games.

Only real positive for me - Yann. Absolutely immense.

Hopefully we put this one to bed and come up with a big performance on Saturday.
    Absolutely spot on.

To add to the Stephens point, he had an absolute mare tonight. Can someone please explain to him that consistently trying Cruyff turns on the edge of your own box is not a good idea.

Also, Rochdale's goal was absolutely comical, hospital football if ever you've seen it.
  • Another poor performance and our midfield offers very little. We're resorting to hoofball and I would think Stevenage must be v confident about Saturday. Stephens is like a poor man's Matt Holland and Pritchard looks out of his depth.
Only Kermy was at the races tonight.
    Wagstaff was embarrassing.....
  • Thought Clarke looked very miserable but with PDC on his way I suppose he would be. ;0)
  • Saturday will be an important test for CP; he needs to show that lessons have been learned tonight and that he can inspire the team to put this poor showing behind them.
  • But you told us we would be 12 points ahead of Sheff Utd by Sunday Rothko, you lied
  • dreadful performance like it has been for weeks
  • I am I allowed to say I am now officially worried.
    I'll join that club.
  • we might be 10, I'll take that. We didn't, well done to Rochdale, and we didn't get it right.

But we're not going to win every week, we're not going to play well in patches. But we're picking up points, and it's really easy to be a pessimist, in fact it's lazy, so I'm going to keep believing this team and manager will get us out of the league.

And as for the gap to Sheffield United, the one to third is far more important
  • Look at it positively. We beat Stevenge and Wednesday beat Utd and we will be sitting pretty with a ten point lead. That's all I am thinking now.
