  • Don't want to turn this into another in the litany of threads coating off our own fans, but I feel it's probably correct to point out that it isn't just a small group of away fans. It's just more noticeable because they make up a higher percentage of those travelling to away fixtures - but the same bunch of tosspots go to home fixtures as well. Cue posts from the usual suspects laughably suggesting that 'if you don't like it, do something about it'.

Did you even go to the game?
    No. Did you?

What does that matter anyway? FWIW, my father-in-law, sister-in-law and two good friends did, and said they were disgusted by the abuse from some (albeit a small minority) morons. Some people on here who have said they didn't hear it might well be suffering from the same selective deafness that seemed to strike a few people when the Lisbie song was being sung last season. Just because I wasn't in attendance, doesn't mean I can't be disgusted at the way some of the troglodytes who follow us treat a fellow human being.
  • It was sung in the concourse under the stand so they might not have selective deafness they may have just been upstairs

  • And the song wasn't about him being gay

    He was bi In the song 8+}
  • Anyone caught singing homophobic songs should get a ban from the club. At the moment people get away with with it because they can.
  • All of the 92 clubs have been sent rainbow laces for their players to wear in their boots if they wish this weekend, will be interesting to see how many from both sides chose to at the derby on Saturday;

  • What a brilliant idea - well done Stonewall.

Let's hope we get to see these on Saturday from both teams.

I don't like the idea. Anyone NOT wearing them are likely to highlighted and even branded homophobic by some sections and that makes this feel forced.

....and what if the player wears laceless boots?

    Showing solidarity with hermaphrodites.

Not sure I'm keen myself. I'll be surprised if any wear them though - I guess that in itself will give Stonewall the basis of an argument.
  • IMO all this promoting of homosexuality and Gay marriage is getting very tiresome. Why no promoting of Heterosexuality and traditional marriage between a man and a woman? We are heading towards a new generation that were created in a test tube and raised without a mother or father figure. I have nothing against gay people at all and condemn homophobic behaviour, but why do people have to come out and state their sexual preferences, isn't it supposed to be a very private matter?

Spose he could tie em to the tops of his arms WWF stylee
  • I don't think homosexuals should be unduly abused.

Equally I don't think their organisation should attempt to coerce footballers (or anyone else) into overtly supporting their cause.

What happened to discretion and individual choice in a free society?

*Cue shouts of homophobe from the usual suspects who choose to not understand or misrepresent the point*

I don't think anyone's "promoting homosexuality" and don't worry I don't think "traditional" forms of marriage or methods of reproduction are about to die out.

You do think that they should be duly abused?

Whilst agreeing with you on the heterosexual marriage front (I believe the lack of the church in today's society is a cause - and I don't really believe in god), what if a player wants to be open about his life but fearful of being abused or vilified?
  • Rainbow laces? Whatever next? Proves nothing if the worlds biggest homophobe wears bright rainbow laces - some players would probably laugh about it in an ironic sort of way and have a reverse effect. If it was deemed to be a success, I hate to think what the next idea will be. Anyway, a lot of players are already wearing pink or lilac coloured boots.

Well I've spent most of my life being fearful of being abused and vilified before coming out and admitting that I supported CAFC. I guess it's a choice people make, keep quiet, or be open and risk copping some abuse.

If they, you, me or anyone else does something to merit abuse then we deserve it.

As you well know really that's what "duly" means!

I might be old fashioned but in many ways I feel that singling out groups like "ethnics," "homosexuals" etc is discriminatory in itself and self-defeating.

We are all people at football what does it matter what colour or where one prefers to place one's naughty bits when being intimate?

Totally irrelevant to whether or not Wilson should play ahead of Solly when fit etc, etc.

  • I dont think they would have come up with this initiative if football provided a level playing field for all sexualities. Players dont get berated from the stands for being in a hetrosexual marriage.

    Hes got two kids
    Hes got two kiiiiiddds
    The guy on their team
    Is married with kids.

Its a good initiative that does no harm to anyone and at the very least will get people talking about the issues which I guess is the whole point.
  • "By wearing rainbow laces players will send a message of support to gay players and can begin to drag football into the 21st Century"

Somehow i can't see any gay footballers rushing to 'come out' just because a few fellow pros wear rainbow laces
  • Why can't they just get on with it.

This is the point that I've try to make before (badly). Cheers Len
