  • Despite all this confusion, i think i've worked it out now. Gareth Thomas is so heterosexual and macho that although he detests gary he is compelled to do it in order to totally dominate another male. A bit like being so communist you are almost facist without realising it. He's so heterosexual he has to dominate other men with Gary in order to fully assert his heterosexual manliness otherwise he feels a bit gay?
  • Keep it up guays. This is getting more and more hilarious.

What I can't understand is why Gary's been dragged into this. He's an air steward with easyjet, so no question about his straightness.
  • True - but Gary just always seems to be involved though.

Yeah, rip it up your valley
  • i'm surprised you've not had to change it anyway given all the sensitivity around swearing recently - when you analyse what your name is actually saying, i'm a bit disgusted. You haven't met Gareth Thomas and his mates have you?
  • As someone that dont really use rhymin slang i never even heard it called a gary before.

little bit of hate for my parents now as well.
  • As far as we're aware, two (poss three) of our 1st team squad at Spurs are gay. Does it make a difference? course it doesnt.
That must be bloody awkward for them given your fans' penchants for certain songs about Sol Campbell
No worse than our manager and star striker having to hear the Lisbie song I'd guess.
You don't have to be gay or black to be offended by those songs or in fact any kind of discrimination.

Indeed not. I am offended by the Addams Family song, for example and my sister is not my mother (or watever the line is!).
I'm offended by the Addams family song, because it makes me seem as though I'm part of an incredibly unwitty and repetitive fanbase (a song that was once reserved for west country teams is now sang toward fans who live near and amongst the people singing the song?!).

Must confess, I didn't know there was a Lisbie song... and while I am naturally keen to know what the lyrics are (if only to know exactly how wrong it is), I am hesitant to ask...

And even though I'm sure many of the comments are not intentionally offensive on this forum, the lazy attitude toward gay people and the one-liners that are inevitable spouted on here as much as anywhere else (as per the Oxford player) pretty much answers the original question. "I'm not anti-gay, I was only joking when I said the pink side!" etc. - it's institutional I suppose is the word.

  • might have to change my username after this
How is Trev by the way?

  • for me it's like racism - I have a laugh and a joke about differences but I wouldn't discriminate against. I think you have to be able to laugh at yourself and others in this world but i guess thats easy for me to say because i'm perfect. (joke, of course!)

Same here... one up the bum, no harm done
  • nothing wrong with flipping her over and playing the b side
  • The majority of people my generation, born in the 60's, were institutionally racist, sexist and homophobic. It's not our fault it is the world we grew up in.
The thing that differentiates my generation now is the ones who have seen the error of the society they once lived in and as responsible adults have broadened their minds against those who haven't.

    P**f

  • Broadened their Garys you mean! No, in all seriousness you are spot on chirpy although i also think DM should take a bow - quality.
  • Well I've only managed to overcome one of those three prejudices!
  • Well went to the same Primary school in the 70's didn't we Dan? I'm sure you remember how racist a certain teacher was there....
  • Can guess - did the gymnastics? Probably had a few other 'anti social' traits.
  • Primary school in the 70s?
I always thought of you as older than that!

  • Maybe not Dan though!
  • Wasnt Trevor Morley & Kevin Kean caught in the showers ahem at Wet Spam?
  • This bloke plays for Switzerland

  • bloke at work is a bit artistic and musicy etc and can't stand football and blokish stuff - says he quite likes the idea of being gay but couldn't be doing with somebody trying to stick their c**k up his a**e. Guess there are all sorts coz i'd imagine that must be the main attraction for 'butch gays' like the welsh rugby captain - it was a lot simpler to understand when all gays acted like John Inman.
Well, I have to own up to being 'artistic', (having gone to art college) and I love my music, and when I had hair it was long.
George Best, was my hero when I grew up, a man not without his issues, but was a good friend of Jimmy Hendrix,( amongst other musician's) had a fashion line/shop, and had long hair, and had a decent score with woman, ( including several Miss worlds, and ex wives). I can remember a time when 'real men' did not wear aftershave. Henry Cooper must have gone out on a limb then flogging Brut?. And as for Kevin Keegan with his perm, obviously him and Souness, must have had a thing going on at Liverpool?....... I think not? Just good footballers.

I think the answer was in the ...... I think not? Just good footballers...... Bexley Dan
My attempts at 'irony' re :Henry Cooper if you excuse the pun, did not hit your 'g spot'....... a more 'straight' man I think might be hard to suggest.

Wasn't it Morley & Bishop? Did they get caught by a wife, not sure who's, wasn't there a stabbing involved ( by knife). Before you start.

    i know
  • i think the point is, who cares what they get up to so why bother coming out? Just to make other gaysw feel more accepted i guess. So the footballer comes out, gets a load of grief and the gay community feel a bit more 'normal'? Is that it?
Tough one this. On the one hand, you're 100% right - someone's sexuality is their own business, nobody else's. If they choose to be 'openly' gay, good for them. if they choose to stay in the closet - good for them too. There's enough prying into peoples' private lives nowadays with the celebrity-obsessed media as it is.

On the other hand, a high-profile footballer 'coming out' should certainly make it 'easier' for others to profess their sexuality (should they wish to do so) - although given the nature of some of the imbeciles that follow football, it might actively DIScourage people from coming out!

As far as I'm concerned, it's nobody's business but their own.
    Top post Leroy!

Why should it matter whether or not they are gay? That is the key for me.

We have to recognise that his is a process where, sadly football and footballers are probably the furthest behind of all the groups in the public domain.

The act of consenting homosexual intercourse between adults was a criminal offence in this country until the 1960's and it has taken a long time before openness and tolerance have taken root in many areas of society.

Film stars hid their homosexuality for years. Eventually some came out and I now there is relative openness in this area. I can remember a friend who worked in publicity telling me years ago that Rock Hudson was gay. I thought she was making it up. He covered it up all that time.

Politicians were also want to cover it up and until very recent time some continued to remain "in the closet", despite others including Cabinet Minister who were openly gay.

We have, as has been said, now seen Rugby players coming out. So as Leroy has said, high profile footballers brave enough to come out will perhaps, help others.

  • Its a well known fact that watching 'The sound of music.' will make you a gay.

To find put if any players are gay, simply have the PA to play My favourite Things
Anyone who knows the words and joins by singing is a proper gayer.

So be on the look out for anyone that sings

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

Remember one of thos away days at Man City and ending up in a pub where they were doing a full rendition of Doe a dear ....
  • I think that few have come out, and no one on here has admitted to being gay, shows that there is an issue with coming out.
I am quite surprised, but then I am an 'arty farty media type' apparently in denial.?
People should not be forced to come out, or be pressurised to do so. If they want to deny there sexuality that is for them.
I thought that society had moved on, it seems in some areas not to have?
It would not be the first time, I take a different perspective/opinion on football, than the main stream.
