  • I thought West Ham's Matt Taylor was openly gay?

And I'm sure that Pique isn't with Shakira anymore...
Didn't they get Married very recently?
  • It's sad that this is even a topic of conversation. I couldn't give a rats ass if someone is gay or not, it's nothing to do with me.

I'm all for it. I think we've had enough of miserable dour players on the pitch. A smile on the face, an uplifting attitude...who could complain about that?

    I'll get me cape.
  • As far as I'm aware one of our current squad is gay.

It makes not one iota of difference.
  • Seems very sad that this 'topic' is still taboo in football. In the arts world and the media that I worked in 'straight' people like myself were in the minority.
The best manager I ever worked for was 'gay', he was honest about it , and was simply a great human being that was kind and considerate regardless of gender.
I wonder how many people on 'this site' are gay for instance? . Be interesting to see if anyone comes forward, somehow I doubt it ?
  • As far as we're aware, two (poss three) of our 1st team squad at Spurs are gay. Does it make a difference? course it doesnt.

    My moneys on Green.
  • why speculate on who it is? Who cares.

    Only mucking about.

On a serious note though, Im team Wagstaff and personally don't see what all the fuss with Green is, for example. If Green, or anyone (only using him as an example) came out as gay I would feel less confident about criticising him incase I get accused of being homophobic.

Imagine a high profile player came out and it was big news but then got dropped due to poor form the manager would get accused of homophobia. Guarantee it.

You seem to me in the know ooohaah . Is there something you want to tell us ?

Article in programme recently mentioned him and his girlfriend

  • Many years ago was working away from home in Leicester, there were plenty of pubs near my office but the best one was a gay pub which I stumbled upon, I was made to feel welcome even though I made it clear I was straight, it was then my regular watering hole whenever I was there.
  • Being married and/or having kids does not mean that you are not gay, there are hundreds of cases of men in marriages to satisfy society and family expectations, only for them to come out years later, look at Gareth Thomas. I have worked with a gay guy fairly recently and you would be surprised at how many men live double lifes. My own take on it as that it matters not who you choose to sleep with, your business, but neither should you expect preferential treatment because of it either, as the likes of Peter Tatchell seem to want. Gays can be equally as discriminatory, we have walked into pubs & clubs in Brighton and have either been told "This is a gay only pub" which is illegal, or been ignored at the bar, one lesbian tried to pick a fight with my partner because of it once, until I explained that I would quite happily kick her butch head in myself if she wanted to play that game.
Again, two sides to every story. I'm inclined to agree with you - equality should mean equality - unfortunately, there are plenty of people out there who would want to pick a fight with someone if they saw a bloke kissing another bloke in a pub. The reason there are 'gay only' places is because they're the only places that a large proportion of the gay community feel they can truly relax and be themselves in. Until societyu actively accepts that there is no reason to treat gays differently to straights, they'll always feel more comfortable in 'their own' places
My point is that legally you cannot tell people that they are not welcome into a premises or business because they are NOT gay, or even suggest thats the reason why they dont want you there, look what happened with the christian B&B owners, sued by the gay couple due to being turned away for their sexuality, so the gay community cant have it both ways (ooerr), happy to sue or report discrimination against their own community, but happy also to practice discrimination themselves when it suits their reasoning or agenda.

  • Personally i don't give a monkeys.
I find people with the morals of Ryan Giggs to be offensive though.
  • I like your posts baldy. Don't say alot but it all makes sense.
  • Statistically there must be a number of high profile gay footballers and possibly one amongst our own squad, if you think there isn't you're in denial. In fact over 50 people have commented on this thread so statistically there's an excellent chance that a gay person has had their say but probably haven't admitted their sexuality for much the same reasons a footballer wouldn't.
  • After Justin Fashanu came out, even his own cousin disowned him, and it pretty much did for his pro career.

It shouldn't matter, and times have moved on, but after that you can't blame other gay footballers from wanting to keep it quiet.

  • Mario Gomez at Bayern is openly gay.
he urged gay footballers to openly admit they are gay, he has never commented on his own sexuality.

And in context you'd assume he isn't.

  • Gourcuff is the only one that comes to my mind...One of my friends saw him with his partner of the time in Bordeaux.
  • I think the main problem with a footballer coming out and openly admitting to being gay is he'd probably get dropped by his manager as he'd be "playing for the other team"

    Bada boom..................now where's me coat?...........................
  • Its a well known fact that watching 'The sound of music.' will make you a gay.

To find put if any players are gay, simply have the PA to play My favourite Things
Anyone who knows the words and joins by singing is a proper gayer.

So be on the look out for anyone that sings

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

  • It's favourite

    Whoops.....
  • I am not going into details because it was told in confidence (by an ex pro, who happened to be gay) but he listed loads of gay footballers (this was about 10 years ago and refereing to 5-10 years before that). Also I have had a number of gay mates who swear blind that they have slept with various footballers, the footballers were well known but not mega and not the kind of great lookers you would brag about. Same bloke told me that Curbs was the nicest bloke in football.

Not trying to add tittle tattle or pretend to be in the know, just saying that there are gay footballers, many of whom lead double lives. This bloke also told me that what happened to JF would put off people coming out for 20 years. He came out about the same time but packed himself off to the USA to get out the way.

bloke at work is a bit artistic and musicy etc and can't stand football and blokish stuff - says he quite likes the idea of being gay but couldn't be doing with somebody trying to stick their c**k up his a**e. Guess there are all sorts coz i'd imagine that must be the main attraction for 'butch gays' like the welsh rugby captain - it was a lot simpler to understand when all gays acted like John Inman.

What a weird post. For a start, I'm not sure there's ever been a time when 'all gays' acted like John Inman, and I'd imagine the main attraction of being gay for anyone like Gareth Thomas is the fact they'd be sleeping with people they fancy rather than ones they don't?

Interesting BD a mate of mine said the public loves the idea of gay men being like Dale Winton, Graham Norton, Stephen Fry etc basically assexual. What the public did not want to think of was "hard cock up arse".
  • A friend of mine used to work with Will Young's brother or cousin or something and claimed Will Young had shared a night of passion with John Terry. Since then I've definitely noticed a camper side to the man. All that stuff with his wife and other players girlfriends suggest otherwise though of course.
