  • But the one big flaw in what you say is that some people enjoy breaking the rules! Especially when they know there isn't much you can do to stop them.
  • If there is such a huge demand for safe standing areas why is it that out of the the hundreds of thousands of people that go to football matches, only 13,000 have signed a petition to bring it back?
  • They haven't got computers up North.
  • People will want seats on trains next!!
  • I wonder how a club, say Fulham, would react if you wrote asking for a refund as you couldn't sit in the seat you had purchased due to them as a Club not enforcing ground regulations, especially if you copied the letter to the Council Dept responsible for enforcing the ground regs. Do you think they would issue a refund ?

In terms of any real time event you are 100% correct but the ultimate sanction rests with those responsible for compliance with the prevailing "industry" rules and the authorities that set them.

I know not whether such rules are referenced in anyway with the provision of ground safety certificates but sanctions for any operational breach have a compelling ring to it.

Sadly as is the nature of such things no one is likely to act unless and until someone actually gets hurt, where upon "everybody will learn from experience" (never mind most people over 30 learned about it years ago).

Does not make it right though. One can always live in hope.
