Thanks to my fellow supporters at Fulham this afternoon

for standing throughout the match. You don't all stand at the Valley so why today, don't you have any consideration for those of us who are unable to stand for long periods? You made the afternoon unbearably painfull. Usually at away games I sit near the front and the standing element go up the back but today no consideration was given to those of us who could not stand.

  • Didn't take long.

FFS, people just LOVE to moan on here.
  • i thought the fact everyone was standing helped generate a far better atmosphere than if half were sitting down, you say 'at the valley' yes, but at an away game where we've sold out 7000 tickets with no real organised tickets eg. north stand compared to east stand what did u expect? if people two rows in front of you were standing then the people in the row infront of you are unlikely to sit down so that they cannot see the game too?
  • Sorry Off-it aren't I allowed to put my view, are we all bound by your view on things, is CL only for you and your lot.

I was I agony this afternoon, had to miss seeing some of the match and leave early, after being a Charlton supporter for over 50 years I think I have aright to moan, so go bury your head
  • I actually enjoyed standing today but i can see Lanc Lad's point of view. Absolutely everyone stood today.
  • This was at an FA cup match against premier league opposition, with 7,000 other fans. What do you expect?
  • I can understand LL views on this but personally i love standing and think it defiantly generates a better atmosphere.
  • We had to stand as well, my son couldn't see a thing but he loved the day and the atmosphere. He wants to go to Wendy's next week but his mother wants to take him to the pictures...Decisions, decisions
  • Lanky, I make you spot on, but I'm afraid when you have the next 3 rows on front of you standing up, then you have no option (if you can) but to also stand up.

This will be a lengthy thread, I'm sure.
  • can understand his views but i dont see how he could expect any different really.

there was a sizeable amount of 'older generation' around me and they seemed more than happy to stand.

didnt hear one 'sidddaaaarrnnn' all afternoon.

  • I completely agree that the atmosphere was brilliant and I loved the bouncy bouncy, maybe I expected too much, maybe I shouldn't have gone, but I'm inpain and pissed off and so my remarks , but I shall be at hillsborough nest week, sitting down the front.
  • I wonder how these people coped in the days of terracing...
  • Lancashire, I'm sure if you had made your concerns known to a steward they may have been able to move you down the front.  I was a couple of rows back from the front, there were a few spare seats and the stewards near me seemed friendly enough.

We were a good many years younger so managed very well thank you.

  • It's a valid point but shouldn't have been unexpected, I think. I have a thing called spastic paparesis which makes it not comfortable to stand for long periods but I knew that there would be no choice today - and  I enjoyed the atmosphere and sat at half time. I would suggest that the next time that you go away and a big crowd is expected, talk to the ticket office and see if they can get you a space in the area reserved for people with disabilities. For obvious reasons you will be able to sit here.
  • I was in my punching element :-)
  • I wonder how these people coped in the days of terracing...

In the days of terracing there were lots of railing type crash barriers that someone like me could lean against and rest their back or legs, in an all seaters there isn't that luxury, in fact I do sometimes stand at Morcecambe where they have a terrace and no problems due to the railings.
  • Havnt spoken my parents yet but I'm sure as two eighty year old they are not going to be happy to have stood all game. In fact my dad has such dodgy knees he wouldn't have physically been able to do so and will have had to have sat for a while. They were in Row G too. Oh well I suppose that at heir ge they shouldn't be going.

Sadly that is the way our "proper fans" see it....
  • Lanc lad, while I sympathise, the atmosphere was fantastic and that was due to everyone standing. Look at it like you took one for the team today.

  • There is the minor consideration of course that in a seated stand the legal default position is sitting.

Strange how so many are "holier than thou" on so many other issues but conspicuous by their silence or disagreement with this.
  • Think it is also now making a mockery of the fact we have all seated stadia. Every time I see WHL on tv everyone is standing. The sooner they introduce safe standing areas the better.
  • Lanc lad has a valid point, but I don't think our supporters deliberately wanted to cause misery (which happend and I wish it hadn't) there simply seemed to be no other option but to stand. The issue is about stadium design and segregation, the desire for standing areas and atmosphere....it is really difficult because it is hard to stop people being people, and football fans being football fans in this particular instance (standing).

lanc, hope some of the day was good for you mate.

  • Everybody standing made it a fantastic atmosphere. I felt sorry for people who couldn't stand but when everybody at the front was standing as well nobody would have been able to see if they had sat down out of consideration.

"My lot"? I don't think my dad or son are members of Charlton Life so I have no idea what that's supposed to mean.

I feel sorry for you if you were in pain, really I do. It was a good day out, for most, we took 7,000 fans and the atmosphere and support was great. But it seems to me there's always people from within digging our own fans out.

Maybe that's a bit unfair to you, but I don't think most of us had any choice in the matter so I don't really see why you are digging everyone out in your opening post. Nothing personal, but I hope you get my point.

  • I wasn't there and I'm young and sprightly enough that standing doesn't bother me, but I really hate the 'what do you expect?' attitude going round. 'Oh I'm sorry I punched you in the face mate but what do you expect; I'm an arsehole 'Oh I'm sorry you fell over and broke your arm lad, but what do you expect; you're only on two legs and have arms'. You're supposed to sit, and if you can't manage that horrific requierment then you should at least not cause other people to suffer for your selfishness. In the end at least have the balls to acknowledge the people who suffered suffered, not try and claim they have no right to be annoyed because 'that's what happens'. It's daft

    What's your problem Len?

Where did I say it's "right"? My objection was that someone clearly couldn't wait to slate our support - and ALL of our support is how it reads to me - after a day like today when most people had a bloody good day out.

For all I know I was standing in front of LL , but what could I do about it?

I could not stand all game due to knee problems, just got up and went over to P7 and sat down there, no problem.

My "problem" is what  LL had to endure and I bet there are plenty more elderly fans similarly suffering because they felt insecure at asking our big, brave tough "proper fans" to sit down.

I happen to think that is offensive and wrong. Just my opinion like.
