dont really mind fulham, go about their business quietly with a shock here and there and play better football than teams like wigan & bolton.
just had a sneak on 'friends of fulham' to see what their take on us was and most seem oblivious to us. found this little comment tho which made me chuckle;
''Charlton will not bunker down they will play football and they have Gary Michael Thomas Doherty we will have to watch for him''
Welcome Sweek, good post however as with all sites we have our fair share of posters who go a bit over the top and get their facts wrong.
Fulham & Charlton are not a million miles apart in terms of capacity, crowd size, away following and having a reputation for being a family club.
We even both have a statue outside our ground although I much prefer ours being an ex player and legend as opposed to Michael Jackson but hey ho.
Good luck tomorrow, may the best team win.
We have a lovely Johnny Haynes statue in front of the stand named after him by the way. But yeah I'm willing to accept some Michael Jackson related banter for the other one. It's a pretty mad thing to do but then again if that's the worst thing your chairman has done things are probably not all that bad at your club.
Seth plum: Cheers, our owner does clearly have money and there's no way of telling where we'd be now if it wasn't for that. But at the same time he clearly does like our club and values our traditions, and listens to us quite a bit. Especially when all the plans to leave the Cottage were going about.
Macronate: That's a massive list. The only one I've ever spotted is Hugh Grant who, according to those who've met him at Fulham, is very down to earth and a very good bloke.
Welcome to the forum, do you think you'll field a strong team or rest players? Either way I can't see us getting a result.
Jol just said:
Martin Jol: “We’ve had four days rest since the win over Arsenal so I will play my strongest team against Charlton on Saturday. Charlton play in a style that is productive for them. They play a lot of crosses and have two good main strikers. They’ve played 24 games this season and only suffered two defeats. It’s the FA Cup and we want to go through to the next round but we have to be aware that Charlton are a team with a winning mentality."
Is there a specific reason for the AJ hate or is just that he's ex-Palace? Did anything ever happen in games between you and Palace that involved him?
Anyway thanks for the nice comments as well, will post here after the game and hope to see one of those boats some of you are coming, seems like a brilliant way to go to the game!

We won the first with a goal in the last seconds and in the second scored a late goal that was enough to deny them the three points they needed to avoid relegation.

Dont see them playing their strongest team as a 'concern'
Tomorrow is brilliant experience for our lot. Hopefully a few players will look at the likes of Murphy and Dembele and see the quality they have and see what it takes to be a player at the top level.
Even if we get spanked i dont see confidence getting knocked. tomorrow is all about the day out for players, staff and fans.
Everybody knows our objective this season...the Fulham game is a break from that and no matter what the result will be a good day for everyone.

Our objective? i thought we'd reached it with the People's Cup!
I suffer from temporary hatred through football, take last Saturday, I have always liked Orient, know a few O's fans and they are all good blokes yet when on the platform at Leyton being fronted by three likely lads during an unsavoury beer throwing incident I hated them, by the time they beat Stevenage on Monday I liked them again. I quite like Brentford but not for 24 hours on Monday and we won that game.....so Fulham, well i'm quite ambivalent to them really, once shared a train with the Fulham Psychos in 1984 and got off at Westcombe Park as they were demoliting the carraige from the inside and I think I was the next thing to go out the window! I think I will detest them until midday Sunday, am I alone with this temporary hatred?
Them 3 were the most embaressing people I think i've ever seen at a football match, there were hundreds of charlton fans on that platform singing at them and that lanky one was still giving it...usually dont like it when stuff like that happens cos i feel sorry for em cos they're outnumbered etc. but when he got covered in fosters i couldn't stop laughing
I would rather they played their strongest team - don't think they will thrash us and as long as we give a decent account of ourselves that will be fine. If we do go out it won't do us any harm and if we beat them they have no excuses.
...the other Fulham fan here! I am a moderator on the Friends Of Fulham independent site linked in the first post. Interesting thread and glad to see that the majority of replies recognise that our two teams aren't worlds apart.
1) Both 'unfashionable' clubs.
2) Both have endured groundshares.
3) Both have endured the lower leagues and successive relegations.
4) Both have enjoyed a spell in the top flight and punched above our weight.
5) Both have statues to great players, yours Sam Bartram, ours of the former England captain Johnny Haynes.
6) Both have a connection with Jimmy Hill (but maybe I shouldn't bring this up).
Anyway, to answer / reinforce what sweek has said, yes we have a sugar daddy in Mr Fayed, without his dosh we would probably be bumping around in the same league you are temporarily in, but if someone came along and bought out CAFC and pumped loads of cash into it and got you to even mid-table mediocrity in the premiership - would you not take that?
Our ground (ground not stadium) has changed since we came to the premiership but the changes have been 'sympathetic' to the history of the oldest club in London, and with the recent proposals of a new Riverside we could have a 30k seater stadium (yes, I know, to house all the premiership tourists) and help to make us more sustainable against our even richer neighbours,' the dark side' and the 'bitters'. I have been to the old Valley a few times and the vertigo inducing terracing was always an experience (plus I saw The Who) play there - so happy memories!
Re the game, yes, I think we will win, that is not arrogance, we have players who play in the premiership and are fast and CAFC are in a lower league, albeit at the top of their game, some of you think you can win, especially if we are too complacent, so we are no different on that score. Your 7000 fans will have a great view, and the acoustics are much better for you that the home fans as the Hammersmith End is a much older structure with a large void at the back where the noise disappears, but hopefully we will bring a few and help raise the atmosphere.
Hopefully whatever the result, it will be great entertainment and a spectacle worthy of the traditions of the FA Cup. Enjoy the day - "We Are The Whites"!
PS: Yes we have a statue to a dead singer, as it seems to be made of plastic it will soon be melting, and so even more life-like, sadly it is not made of metal as the local scrappies would have had that way by now.
PPS: This link is to all the famous fans of Fulham including pictures (see category links at the bottom of the page and click on them). http://www.friendsoffulham.com/FamousFans.php
There's one we haven't used before - have we got a void at the back of the north upper? What about that access hatch onto the roof - a small recess at least.
I couldn't see a statue like that lasting at the valley very long
...but would you risk being banned from watching your team play at home for the sake of a crappy statue? Where I sit at the Hammersmith End is about 20ft away from it, and I have yet to see it 'live' and refuse even to go near it. I can assure you that there are those at Fulham that would gladly see the back of it and would willingly help it 'swim with the fishes', and there are some that are happy to look at it as a folly from our benefactor. Anyway, at least you cant see the ruddy thing from the Putney End...

...come on, it's the best excuse I have for our quiet fans, but to be fair, when the away end has a full allocation most away fans will make more noise than the home fans.
By the way I sit right at the back of the HE and people who are on teh concourse below going for a jimmy or a bite to eat say they can hear me from there - mind you some think I am a loud b'stard.

TBH I don't really like any London clubs apart from us anyway

This is a great Prep game for Wednesday next week
If we put our strongest team out and Fulham put their stongest team out there could be a giant killing.
However I doubt it as I think we will win :-)
True that is the risk, ashame though cos a couple tyres would fit nicely round that
