Oh good, I haven't been on this thread for a few hours and it has degenerated into a "who's got the biggest willy" competition.
We have been a big club in the past. 75,000 crowds, 40,000 average crowds etc. The disastrous 1960's and 1970's coupled with the move to Sellout Park didn't help our fan base.
Being out of the top flight for almost 30 years made a huge impact on our fan base.
Being back at the Valley and the most recent Premiership years gave the club the opportunity to re-connect with lapsed fans (Valley Express) and to re-build from that disastrous time.
If you compare our gates now to what they were when we were last in tier three, we have come along way.
Wednesday has been a yo-yo club but has benefited from less years in the doldrums than us.
Can we please all agree to drop the 'how big is your away support' theme? It's tragic and about as interesting as a rectal haemorrhage!
but....
Ironically enough our smallest home crowd this season??.........you guessed the Wendies...for me that states that we don't see you as a big club (IMO) - we had more against Exeter 5 days later
I can hear a song coming on when you have your biggest league crowd of the season on the 14th....."you've only come to see the Charlton"

Simples!
Absolutely........spot on Bing my man!
The closure of the Dockyards in the 50's and 60's, as well as going down, killed us!
On a different subject, does anyone know whether when away tickets are on restricted sale just to season ticket holders, you have to produce your ST before the game? Or do you just have to quote a reference number when booking. In other words, can I use a friend's without actually having it in my hand?
Considering its on general sale, you wont have to do anything
Yeah I was referring to Exeter, hence the opening line 'on a different subject'. I jjust couldn't bring myself to start a new thread.
You just have to have all relevant CON numbers. So if you're buying for 5 S/T holders etc, one person can do it as long as you have all CON numbers.

Co-sign. Sometimes I feel like I'm back in school reading these 'my team is better than yours' posts.
but the away support is one of the main measurements in establishing what is a big club. and in a thread littered with telling wednesday that they aren't massive. a reference to what they call themselves in a pisstaking way anyway that has gone over some of the heads of a few impressionable souls, for them to bring up away support seems fair enough to me.

But who cares which clubs are big- it's who wins the most that matters surely? It is still the 11 players on the pitch rather than the plebs that play the match isn't it?
