Before the start of the game, a warm round of applause at the minimum. Its a matter of opinion whether one chorus to confirm that wherever he goes, Semedo will always hate Millwall is over the top or not. You never know, maybe Sheff Weds will pick up the song.

I think J block you are overstating the level of support, you think I am suggesting. We can agree on a warm round of applause for Semedo.

  • Other offers?  I'm sure his agent would never release those to the press to win Shef Wed's offer up?
  • The other offers were more likely much lower.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to these signing on statements. He's hardly likely to say that he doesn't know where Sheffield is on the map and hates living up north.

  • I believe we offered him £3k per week (down from £6k) & Sheff W offered £4k per week.

Additionally, on The Owls site, they reckon he has family in Wombwell which is just North of Sheffield. Brother I believe.

I know up there last season, there was a number of his family sitting just behind me.

  • I'm glad he's gone.
In over 75% of his tackles he gave away a free kick often resulting in a yellow or even a red card, and over 75% of his passes never reached their intended target. What kind of a midfielder is that?
It seemed to me that he was popular because he tore about and 'gave his all.' I've always been bewildered by how people were so easily pleased with such a typical lower league player. I think it was because his name sounded flashy.

And I always thought exactly the same as this about Bailey too. In my opinion Semedo will be as much as a success in the future as Bailey has since proven to be.

I'd agree with most of this, but I'd say Bailey had a bit more to his game and he was always a dangerous customer going forward - certainly had an eye for goal.
For me Bailey's legacy will not be the missed penalty, but the casually misplaced pass that led to the Swindon goal. (In fairness the volley against Millwall will live long in the memory, absolute ecstasy - I was hugging the bloke next to me who I'd never met before!)

Nail on the head Mid Life Crisis thingy. Bailey certainly had a bit about him, esp goals and box to box player.
  • For every great finish of Bailey's there was a misplaced pass that conceeded a goal. Bailey was a bit Hollywood, where a simple pass would often do he would play a looping pass, that's how he ended up skying that penalty, by trying a more difficult attempt into the top corner instead of a more conventional attempt. The Millwall goal was excellent, and he did score some good goals but Nicky Bailey always thought he was a lot better than he actually was.
  • I'm not sure I buy all this not giving in to demands bs. If we wanted him, we should have paid what he wanted within reason. If our average player is on 3k, which I've only read on here, then offering Semedo 4k is hardly breaking the bank. I'd rather we kept Semedo and made up the difference by not akin on pritchard (can he be on much less than 1k per week?).

Now poor old Semedo has to live in the hovel that is Sheffield instead.
  • It was poor old Semedo's choice.

As opposed to the shit hole that South East London is?
  • Fight!

    ;o)
  • Oi oi, owlsonlineadmin.

Don't be coming onto a Charlton message board saying that we live in a "shit hole". It might be a shit hole, but it's our shit hole.

Don't suppose I'd be welcomed with open arms if I came onto your board and called Sheffied a "shit hole" would I?

People can go off people you know.

    You've been then.
    Respect
  • I was responding to someone calling Sheffield an "hovel", what's good for the Goose is good for the gander, or summat like that.

Both grounds are in similar areas with terraced housing round them.

But we are not up north and our players usually live in the Garden of England, that is beautiful Kent ;)
  • I live in a hovel. What's wrong with that?

I like my hovel. But it's not a shit hole.
  • Kent, jesus if it wasn't bad enough playing for you lot ;-)

Sheffield is the greenest city in Europe and we sit on the edge of the Peak National Park.
  • ha ha ha ... standard footy fans bullshit bidding up EVERY player that signs for their club and i would say we've got as many fruits as any other club ....

Interesting that on our forum the new midfielders are definitely much better. Over on the Sheff Wed forum Semedo is an amazing signing and much better than Hollands.

Yet most fans have seen their new signings play a handful of times at most.
Spot on.  It's always the way; (unless your operating at Prem level, where it's forced down your throat), most people wont have a clue about about new signings.  But that doesn't stop them commenting.  It seems to me that there's two things going on here.  Firstly where people don't really know a player they judge on what team they've come from.  Secondly they always big up their club's signings, more in hope than anything, whist simultaneously putting down players that leave.
  • Hovel v Shit hole.  It's an age old debate.  However in this case it's irrelevant as Sheffield is both a hovel and a shit hole.

    And a slum.

So it is a great location spoilt by the people?

  • We have greenwich and blackheath close by.

    You guys have..... Rotherham.

Greenwich park is about to be covered in horse poo though :(
  • good luck to jose,we probably never offered him anything or what we offered him wasnt good enough, last season personally i didnt think he was at his best and i was amazed so many people voted for him as our player of the year which just goes to show how poor the side was , when he comes back to the valley i will applaud him ,but i think a change in midfield was needed ,holding players for me are a waste   in this division we need someone to get hold of the ball and drive us forwards not sideways and backwards, a central midfield player should score at least 10 goals a season .
    Great summary.

Hey, you dropped an 'owler there, Owlie.

Kent? Pikey country around Gillingham can, lets be generous, be an aquired taste.
But the rest of the very green 'Garden of England' (as it was always known) draws accolades far and wide for it's beauty and attractiveness.

But you won't appreciate much of it from driving along the motorway.

Go and explore the real Kent. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Whoa there. Please can we not turn this into a reasoned debate, with evidence and stuff.  This is a bit of Monday morning name calling with a northener.

  • Indeed I live in the Weald of Kent, which is the best bit of gorgeous Kent, all history and hop gardens.  I actually live in a 13th century mansion, on the gate the sign reads;
    NO CHAVS
    NO PIKEYS
    NO UNSOLICITED SALESMEN
    NO FRENCH
    AND
    NO BLOODY NORTHENERS

As you say Gillingham leaves a lot to be desired, sadly I doubt I will never get to see the "real" Kent unless I get to the Open next time it's down there.

The thing is with most places is that whenever people call it a hovel/shithole etc then the locals will defend it, i suspect we like where we live depsite it's deficiencies and wouldn't have it any other way.

Sheffield has some bloody horrible areas but as I said it sits on the edge of the Peak District so within a ten minute drive there is some stunning countryside and areas to enjoy.
  •  Peace and common sense prevail. Damn.

  • Can we not just kiss and make up and just agree that England is both beautiful and a shit-hole at the same time?

Kent has lovely area's but also has the likes of Chatham.

Yorkshire is also very beautiful in many places and spent lots of time there during the 6 years i lived oop north.

The definition of a beautiful place?

Somewhere that hasn't been fucked up by humans.
