good luck jose! but really now do they think it has weakened us! jacko was our best player last season full stop!!! and we still have the player chrissy really wanted to keep ;-)
Was an ever present and key member of a midfield that missed out on automatic promotion by 2 points. I know people look upon the first season in this League as a failure because we missed out on promotion, but it wasn't the unmitigated disater that last season was.
Semedo played his part in tat disater too, but the season before shows that with better players around him he's a more than useful assest in this division. I maintain that Powell was getting a bit extra out of him in terms of goal threat and general attacking influence and had he stayed and Powell kept at him he would have grown as a player and been seen as less limited.
Hoepfully he won't be badly missed as we've signed some promising players to replace him but I don't doubt he'll be a good signing for Wednesday and I wish him the very best of luck in finishing second behind us.
After his first goal at The Valley suddenly he was a brilliant player and apparently was the only player that should win player of the year. Now he's gone and actually he wasn't that great and Sheff Wed will be disappointed. Somehow we know for certain our new signings are definitely going to be much much better.
If Sheff Wed need someone to stay back in midfield, work hard, cover for team mates and win the ball they won't get much better at this level. If he plays in a 4-4-2 and they expect him to offer something going forward they will be very disappointed.
How many players have been poor here and good elsewhere, or good here but struggled at another club? It's about how the manager uses them and the players they have around them. Semedo can be a good player at this level just as he can look very limited in a struggling team (e.g. us under Powell last season).
I'm not bothered he's gone, I'm hopeful our new midfielders are just what we need, but just as he wasn't brilliant he isn't suddenly a poor player.
for those quoting the wednesday fans reaction, how about these for some quotes.
Engine room midfielder. What centre midfielder to leave?
Great signing.
I believe he is firmly in the "combative" bracket
Seems a decent signing
quite happy with the two signings so far, hardened players just what we need
if he's willing to roll his sleeves up and get stuck in for us - that's worth a lot in this league - could be a good signing
I know nothing about him but like the look of this signing from what I have heard - tough, no nonsence central midfielder. It would seem if we can get his head right he could be a decent player for us.
Sounds like a good signing to me.
Pretty happy about this signing.
this is how some of 'us' reacted to the signing of Mccoxo
ha ha ha ... standard footy fans bullshit bidding up EVERY player that signs for their club and i would say we've got as many fruits as any other club ....
and there was i living in cloud cuckoo land thinking jose really loved us and wasn't in it for the money like all them greedy premiershit footballers .....erm err no that was some other fruits .... weird really weird

Interesting that on our forum the new midfielders are definitely much better. Over on the Sheff Wed forum Semedo is an amazing signing and much better than Hollands.
Yet most fans have seen their new signings play a handful of times at most.
Good luck Jose. Always gave 100% but as already said limited and one dimensional. What we have replaced Semedo and Racon with will I think work much better.
At the moment, I'd put Semedo above Hollands -but I must admit I haven't seen enough of Hollands -but who else has? Lets hail the good things (of which to date there have been many) and be honest that losing Semedo isn't one of them.
I remember Pardew complaining that we applauded returning players and it seems we have fans who are adopting his desire, never thought our fans would be pardewites. Some one in one of the threads said that Charlton are nice fans, if applauding players is one aspect of our niceness then I am all for it.
Current player of the year or not he has been our player for a number of years and deserves the applause, not boos, even if like me you are one of the fans that did not hold him in highest esteem.
We are not so different from other fans in that respect - watch the Bournemouth fans in August -they will clap and cheer Hollands and boo Wiggins. It is how you leave which makes the difference. Semedo made some comments in relation to his commitment to us that might mean he gets booed, but we dont know the full story and I certainly wont be booing him.
Booing Semedo is pointless. You'll just make this into a big deal when it isn't.
Semedo's comments were meant to show his love and respect for this club, but at the end of the day it's a career. Why stay here to sit on the bench when you can get more money to actually do what you love?
Anyone who boos a player who gave it his all game in game out for us is incredibly fickle and doesn't share in the ideals that, in my opinion, are what our club is about. Other clubs do it, doesn't mean we should join in.
For me it's not so much whether Hollands is better than Semedo - more how players combine and compliment each other, and their contribution to the team performance.
You know, the old Curbs-ism ........."The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts".
A player with more individual ability may not consistantly be as effective as another with lesser ability playing a reliable simple game, who provides an essential platform for the entire team to perform.
Semedo hasn't delivered for us for some time now, and although you can't question his commitment, he is not what we want anymore - let alone all those yellows and reds !
He gave plenty, and was almost in tears when he scored at home last season. I met him several times in the street and he was 100% Charlton. We made him a low offer, and our POTY has moved on ( even if only sideways).
We have bought Exeter's POTY and a string of hungry players. Out with the old and in with the new - no hard feelings.
No, didn't mean I was going to boo him, just relaying the date Wednesday visit us.
Don't boo players/the team at all, never have, never will.
For what it's worth I liked Semedo for his attitude. Let's just say we've parted amicably, by mutual consent.
I liked Semedo attitude and did have some good games. He always gave 100% and glad he got a goal at the Valley. It was great we voted for him to be player of the year. But truth be told he was too slow for the midfield and not good enough in the air to be a central defender. The pairing of Racon and Semedo never really fired. I am happy with the midfield we're building at the club.
I wish Semedo well at Sheffield Wednesday as he is a decent person, I will join the applause and sing the Semedo song when he plays with Sheff Weds.
Sad to see him go, he was a fully committed player. Whatever limitations people might see in him a want of trying was never one.
I like the look of where Powell's taking the team now, but there's an element of me that remembers that some of us were excited at the prospect of McCormack. If some of the new guys fall short of expectations then we could regret this one, but for a variety of reasons it was inevitable and probably best for both parties.
"At the moment, I'd put Semedo above Hollands -but I must admit I haven't seen enough of Hollands -but who else has? Lets hail the good things (of which to date there have been many) and be honest that losing Semedo isn't one of them."
I've seen a fair bit of Hollands actually and would suggest that he's a far better all round player than Jose. Jose was part of a truly dreadful midfield on the whole and, whilst I don't think he's a poor player per se, he's extremely limited and when he's not doing that job well, (as was often the case if we're being honest) we effectively handed the midfield over to the oppo for free.
He certainly needed a change of club and I wish him luck. Maybe he'll come good but I won't miss him, especially as the wages he was pulling down have enabled us to get in several other, in at least two cases for certain, better, players IMO.
Guess we won't have to wait too long to find out who's right on the Semedo issue!
Would have been a graet player to have on the bench, especially to see games out or to fill in for injuries etc but it just shows how we are progressing under the new owners that his departure isn't all that big a deal.
Sheff Weds at The Valley in early September, he'll be suspended by then.
vff - why would you sing the Semedo song when they visit, clap him when the teams are announced etc, as I will, but sing his song? HE DOESN'T PLAY FOR US ANYMORE.
Wednesday are a much bigger club than us in every way , it is humiliating when your player of the year gets poached by a rival club , what a coup for Wednesday , rips our midfield apart , & what with Racon going as well , their fans have every right to feel smug with this one , perhaps it has given them the edge in the race for promotion?
All these players leaving Charlton ... very worrying and unsettling times for Charlton fans.

Now I'm all for clapping the bloke but to cheer him on !? no chance.
No chance of me booing Semedo. There's very few players I would boo anyway, but you just know you'd hurt the lad's feelings if you did boo him. He'll end up crying in front of the Covered End again

I'm sure in the Full Monty the Utd fans got their dicks out for cash...
All we had to do was give the blue half Semedo

Only good in a 5 man midfield, useless in 442
Stronger more dynamic squad with a perfect blend of youth, experience and northern grit. Sheff Wednesday League One Champions 11/12
Now that he plays for league rivals he is the enemy and i hope his visit to The Valley is uncomfortable so as to put him off his game.
Outside of that I wish him luck as very likeable player and always did his best.
No time for sentimentality til we are out of this poxy league though.
