No one can deny Semedo was a top bloke and did his job well, but we all know he was extremely, extremely limited. In my opinion, not a loss at all, as even a defensive midfielder needs to be able to cross the halfway line without panicking and getting a nose bleed.
Good luck to Jose, but I think, bar Robbie Elliot, he is the last of the players we got relegated with. Here's to a fresh start!
(Now lets just pray the Francis deal goes through!)
We'll look back on this and think we were easily pleased lauding water carriers such as Semedo.
i've never been pleased in recent times ... i could see most were absolute pony .... and we've sunk to the pits of this league where the crap found their level, anyone decent was bought by other sides and all that was left is the crock of shit that helped get us here , it's no coincidence
Good luck Jose at the end of the day I was bored of watching him and racon who some rated as superb get over run without disrespect by the midfield of the likes of carlise and Exeter. If they was that good we wouldn't be where we are now!

A fabulous defensive midfielder but needed an equally fabulous creative next to him. Anything less than that and the midfield would never be good enough - which as we have seen it wasn't, because he could never contribute anything to the other 50% of the midfield product.
When Semedo came to Charlton we had that fabulous creative in Andy Reid and that's when Semedo formed his reputation. I wonder how well regarded he would have been had he joined after Reid had gone.
Don't blame him for leaving but I too am hoping that we're now better off without him.
Sheff Weds at The Valley in early September, he'll be suspended by then.
vff - why would you sing the Semedo song when they visit, clap him when the teams are announced etc, as I will, but sing his song? HE DOESN'T PLAY FOR US ANYMORE.
Well in regards to the Semedo song, he hates millwall right ? But I don't know maybe you are right about a the song.
( J block who said anything about cheering him on during the game ?)
Semedo was player of the year and despite his limitations as a midfielder he always gave his best, which you can't say for a lot of the shower that has played for us over the last few years. When he arrives on the pitch, as a decent former servant of the club, who was voted player of the year last season, I would give him a warm round of applause like I have and would do for any other Charlton player who played well for the club and moved on. I don't see what is controversial about that. I don't know, you would never thing that Semedo was just voted player of the year.
Semedo tried hard at the Valley but like Racon never delivered..........
As for moving to advance their careers both Racon and Semedo have had every opportunity over the past years to do that - they simply are below average footballers.
I would not boo either of them when they return ..Semedo will get sent off against Charlton....
Wish him well. Hardworking and lots of effort. Don't blame him if we offered him reduced wages for moving on. Best thing for us and him. Just had a drunken chat with my Dad about him signing for the Owls. Both a lil erm merry but we are in agreement that have always associated him and Racon with part of the contributing factor/reason for the free fall down the leagues. Likeable with moments of class topped by frustration.
Got a mate whos an Owls fan and am surrounded by Wall fans at work so I'm sure I'll be updated regularly how they get on.
Well said Vff. Some people need to grow up. Semedo deserves a warm reception, then on with the match.
No one has said not to give him a warm reception. The suggestion by vff was to sing the Semedo song when Wednesday visit. Now call me old fashioned but that is way over the top.
I am one of the few on here who never had a bad word to say about the bloke, to me he was absolutely player of the season last year, and should probably have been the year before that too. I think he is a terrific player and can't fault his effort on the pitch whilst he was with us.
Sadly he ruined that by spouting all that garbage about wanting to sign for life and loving the club before jumping ship as soon as his lucrative contract ended. 4 months ago he was crying after scoring a goal and telling everyone he wanted to stay for life...4 months later he is off to Sheff Wed! Sadly that tarnishes it for me and drags him down to the also runs.
Plenty of former players like Jonjo I would happily clap on their return but not Semedo any more.
Just spent half an hour reading their lot wetting themselves over the best signing for years. Oh dear. it must have been a barren last few years. Yes, we might possibly end up with egg (or pudding) on our faces but i doubt it.
As i said weeks ago, Despite so many fans singing jose's praises and him being P.O.T.Y, I don't think the club were too bothered about him signing a new deal as Powell had his own targets. So they offer him a less than appealing contract so when he turns it down and goes elsewhere, the club come out of it saying "well, we offered him a deal but he refused". Everyone's happy, especially Sheff wed fans who seem to think they've got jose's old team-mate, Riverdance Ronnie.
By the way ValleyGary In case you didn't read the comment about you by an owl:

a song that used to echo around the valley for him, if that's being sung again in full voice when he is playing for the other team that is definitely cheering him on.
Dont confuse me with not clapping him because I will, he has been my favourite player these past two season and i'm gutted he's gone, but I won't be chanting his name is all.
Maybe CP didn't want him, maybe he didn't rate him. I think he was grossly overated and the phrase "In the land of the blind the one eyed man is King" always springs to mind.
The only thing worrying me now is "Is CP a genius?". To do what he is doing and to get it right and to gain promotion would take a genius of a manager. To know that this
will all fit and the team would be a winning one would be unbelievable. The players going are losers, we need winners. CP is a winner, maybe he will get it right>>..

None of us even know whether we offered him a new deal. Therefore you can't blame him moving to a new club - surely you didn't expect him to stay without being paid?
Whichever way you look at it, Semedo (and Racon) were part of an under-achieving midfield that didn't score goals, didn't set up many goals, got relegated and stagnated in League One (twice): time to move on now and try something else.
I won't slate him as he at least seemed to try more than others (sometimes too much with silly fouls/cards) - but that's not really saying much now is it?
I think (and hope) that our new set of midfield players will shine brighter than our last few attempts (in this league at least).
Decent player, very nice bloke who showed his emotions. How many of us would want to take a drop in income in this day and age ? Boo if you like mac, but you will be drowned out by the big welcome he will get.

I think there are a lot of us hoping against hope that CP is a genius manager. He has his own team now and a full pre-season to get them used to each other. It's a tall order, but no excuses.
good luck to jose,we probably never offered him anything or what we offered him wasnt good enough, last season personally i didnt think he was at his best and i was amazed so many people voted for him as our player of the year which just goes to show how poor the side was , when he comes back to the valley i will applaud him ,but i think a change in midfield was needed ,holding players for me are a waste in this division we need someone to get hold of the ball and drive us forwards not sideways and backwards, a central midfield player should score at least 10 goals a season .

Glad he's gone but booing him is crazy - he was never short on effort but in the end of the day, he wasn't going to be central to CP's plans because he's a midfielder who can't play football and was shown the door. How can you boo him for that?

Give him a clap, fair one. He was a consistent performer in a role most full backs can play and rarely gave the ball away.
Never gonna win much with players like that unless they have Robben, Cole, Drogba and Lampard in front of them though
We won't miss him and as much as I thought he always did his job well he is the last dreg of Pardew gone at last. And that is good
He is odds on to get 3 Red and 8 Yellow cards.
