Well, good luck to the guy - he could have been better, but he had his good days too. Singled out and unfairly treated by many supporters.
They'll have to find a new Scapegoat this season. They will.
Spot on Oggy. I liked him and could see how hard he tried in every game. I thought his treatment by some of our "supporters" was shocking. As you say, which poor sod will be the scapegoat next season?
every generation of CAFC fans, and i go back to the early 1960s, has had to have at least one player to hate. 'McOxo' and Francis are the current whipping boys, whereas a useless lump like Racon and an overrated lad like Solly are showered with praise. When I first started to go to the valley, the invective hurled at Mike Rose and Dennis Edwards for example was quite uncalled for. During the start of the second premiership season when things started badly, the amount of abuse hurled at Lord Curbishley was iunforgiveable. What is it with so many Charlton fans?. Do so many have the miserable gene?
I've never booed or abused Francis and I'm also not saying he didnt try but he is an awful player. He made me laugh out loud on a number of occasions too. Thanks for everything Simon but cheerio.
I think it is football all over Lincs not just us. I think you are a trifle harsh on Solly btw and if he is as bad as you fear then he will soon be the boo boy target.
this scapegoat crap is really giving me the hump now. if anything CAFC fans are some of the most gentle, light-hearted and polite supporters in the country. If you play well you receive praise, you play badly then you receive support. If you continue to play badly, make the same mistakes over and over then its no suprise that patience does start to wear thin with a few. Simon Francis wasnt a scapegoat....he was just rightly pointed out to be a shit footballer.
Hump on VG - Since the Prem our fans have been no more and no less intolerant than most of the fans in the country. We have always had our favourites that can do no wrong and those that are scapegoats who can do no right.
If we are that nice and gentle why is it that numerous managers have cited the strategy of keeping us quiet for the first 20 minutes so that our fans will get on the players back. For numerous reasons we are not a nicey nicey fans.
The first scape goat I can remember was Harry Gregory .. mind you he was crap too.
ur talking about 20/30 'supporters' out of 15,000. nothing like an over-reaction.
francis is crap...a huge majority of people that go week in week out see that...CP see's it, thats why he's offloading him for peanuts...see ya later simon, ive booked you a cab.

Harry G ?.. he was one of my heros.. the only player i can remember who stood up to Dave McKay, Clough's enforcer, and won
I can't argue that he didn't have crap games but he was playing in a pretty crap team - I saw something in it and I think this has the potential to backfire on Chrissy if true the same way as letting Anyinsah go could. Not saying it will, just that the potential for it to happen is there.
Seems a bit strange that neither Bournemouth or us have announced a fee has been agreed. Even if Solley is first choice, we are going to need a 2nd choice until somebody is brought in. This will surely cost money, so why take the risk of selling before this happens for a fee of only £35k. It doesn't stack up to me.

We have a month before the season kicks off - and I think from memory that Francis only joined the week before the season began last year. Given that 90% of the squad is in place and that we have a RB in place already selling Francis before bringing in his replacement isn't something that worries me - and if anything happened to Solly there is Jordan Cousins.
Who I don't think is ready. Just saying we should cover ourselves first - seeing as we are splashing the cash, can't see why it is worth the risk for £35 grand.

I take it they're not the ones that Boo a player when his name is announced in the team line up then, before he's even kicked a ball in the game?
What about the others who do?
There's nothing worse than victimising a player and totally destroying his confidence.
I suppose that helps his game and helps him perform better?
It didn't help Francis, did it?
As you know, many football fans can be moronic and savage - and no doubt Charlton has its share.

Garys ex?
is this the 'ex' who gave birth to Francis' baby last season, causing the bus to be stopped en route to Plymouth?
please note for legal purposes: simon francis is not seeing my ex and he is most definitely the father of his girlfriends baby.
Height issues aside, I still don't rate Solly as a footballer. Rumours flying around that we may re-sign Richardson....
Yes please!
