Pretty amazing to think that we had this guy as our first choice right back ahead of both Chris Solly (the best player Charlton have had in years) and Carl Jenkinson (now playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world in the Champions League).

To be fair, Solly was only 11 at the time..

Not really surprising it was No more than pish poor mgmt
Could say the same about Powell, signed and played Kerkar, Wagstaff and Cook ahead of Harriott for over half a season...

  • Confidence is a very important factor in football at any level and poor old Francis' was torn to shreds by the home support.

I remember it starting just one or two games into the season with really nasty vitriol.

His award doesn't prove he is a great full back but it does suggest strongly that anyone is a much better player without a mass crowd groaning, moaning and hurling abuse very time they get near the ball. I suspect it also means that his team-mates at Bournemouth knew how much he was wounded by his Charlton experience.

    Good luck to him.

    Absolutely this.

Don't care what anyone says, he's a confidence player, and he got so much nasty undeserved stick (as did Mooney). Whereas players in the same squad who hid, stole a living, and did not give a toss (of which there were many) seemed to get away with it. Just a chosen Charlton whipping boy.

Exactly the same now if Pritchard has a good game and at one point passes to the oppo, you'll hear a collective sigh and shouts of abuse. Morrisson could be having a poor game, and make exactly the same pass, and there will be nothing of the sort.

    Always been the way though...

Utter drivel ive never heard Pritch get abuse and if anyone stole a living at our club it was Francis and by using the term whipping boy it suggests it was undeserved! But anyone who knows anything about football can see that Francis was pelt for us!
  • Where did I say he played well for us? There's a difference between trying and not trying however bad you are. Imo he still tried more than Racon, and many other wasters from that era who I have tried to shut out of my memory.

I'm not talking about Francis type dog's abuse aimed at Pritchard, obviously. But abuse all the same. But if you haven't heard anything, then it obviously never happens. I stand corrected.
  • Arggghhh that poxy phrase 'whipping boy'

There were moans and groans with Francis because he was generally shit!

Players are always given a chance at the Valley. If a player continually plays poorly then i don't think the fans can be blamed for becoming frustrated.

Doesn't have the mentality for the professional game. I don't agree with getting on the back of your own players, but he showed no determination to try to win them over.

As for bringing Mooney to the table, He was just plain and utter shit, simples.............................

Agreed he did try. But he was one of the worst players I've seen play for us in nearly forty years of going to The Valley. I didnt say that you said he played well for us, I was making a statement.
Re Pritch, Obviously if any player makes a bed pass there will be moans and sighs of frustration, but I have never heard him get pelters.
RE Mooney, I was disgusted when he got dogs abuse while waiting to come on as a sub, a low point for my club, as much as I though Francis was awful, whenever he lined up at the beginning of a match for the club he had my support, more often than not after 5 min he lost my support.
Good luck to him if he has managed to get his boots on the right feet at Bournemouth.
  • Francis got steadily worse over his time with us and I think a lot of this was down to the stick from fans. I thought the abuse he got from some of our fans was awful.
If he was that bad a player then Bournemouth wouldn't have persevered with him.
Giving big name players stick if they don't try is fair enough but an honest journeyman doesn't deserve it.
I've never understood what those who boo and abuse players think it achieves?
In terms of this season I've heard abuse aimed at both Hamer and Pritch so it still goes on....
  • And the fact that he got in over our own solly who had won mom the game b4 and our mgr chose to play him out of postition to accomdate SF
.all this contributed to the feelings towards SFand parkinson and i am sure i wernt alone in thosr thoughts

    Woeful footballer for us

  • I will also state i dont boo never had

  • I've never understood what those who boo and abuse players think it achieves?

This, anyone who knows anything about psychology knows constant encouragement is more productive than constant criticism. If you have some one working for you who's shit do you constantly follow their every move and bollock them turning them into a nervous wreck or gentley encourage them to do right?

I've booed the team before, the team. Not an individual player, that's just plain flat out retarded.
