We had a pretty poor team, a central defence of Dailly and Llera.

But then this is the Llera who's been a regular for Wednesday in the Championship, so should have been easily good enough for L1. Indeed you start to look at the signings Parky made around then and think they were much better players than they showed on the pitch

I rated him Southend . i rated him at Charlton and I still like him I think he's a good player But just didn't get a chance at Charlton. I'm not saying I would have him over Solly but he was decent

WTF- Do me a favour! He was an appalling footballer when he played for us! They say end criticism with a positive......ok he tried!
  • He got the right back position in the PFA awards, League 1 Team of the Year as well.
  • I would like to see Callum Harriot run at Simon Francis, I think that CH will be able to get the better of him with his pace, no problem.

    So would my old mum!

Maybe we'll find out in a few months. I hope he doesn't get the booing treatment, seems like most ex players do these days.
  • We got in the play offs with Dailly, Llera and Sodje as our central defenders. Had we had a goalscorer up front we'd have gone up automatically.
  • Sure there was a player in there somewhere, but he was shocking for us.

The horror show in the cup vs Preston is possibly the worst individual performance I have ever seen from a Charlton player.

We had pretty decent full backs and a strong MF the first L1 season

  • Bournemouth with Simon Francis have finished 2nd in L1.
Llera might not have a clue, but was in a team that finished 2nd in L1 last season.
Alan McCormack was Swindon's POTY in 2011/12 in L2, playing CB, and has been a regular for them this season as they reach the playoffs.

I'm not saying I'd want any of the players in our team now, but all 3 clearly underperformed for us, and have shown more of their qualities elsewhere.

  • Don't get me wrong, good on Francis.
But anyone pretending he was less than absolutely poor for us is having a laugh.
  • You can say he was 'surrounded by shit' but he was hands down the worst of the shit, some of his performances were nothing short of comical
  • I dont think he was as bad as you're all making out. I mean talking of clowns - Seaborne was far worse!

I remember he had a wicked cross though
  • Don't know if I agree with that. Seaborne had one truly atrocious game that he will be remembered for but he did it while playing out of position a league up. Francis had proper shockers against the likes of Swindon in L1 and that was in his best psoition. The Francis great cross was a urban legend. You'd hear about it happening from a friend of yours but you'd never actually see it.

Glad he's doing well for Bournemouth though as he looked a broken man towards the end of his spell with us. Never like to see someone so bereft of confidence
  • Well done to the lad.

Was always a good crosser of the ball.

    He was pony though

Yep, I was going to mention that game too. Compare that to his previous game against Reading in the cup when he had a blinder and that summed him up for me. Started well when he first joined us but then became a far too inconsistent player for me and, at times, I wondered how he made it as a professional. And if I remember rightly Alonso played in the same Preston game. Fair play to him for getting the accolades at Bournemouth though. Just wonder why Howe has managed to get him to play so well!

  • Confidence is a very important factor in football at any level and poor old Francis' was torn to shreds by the home support.

I remember it starting just one or two games into the season with really nasty vitriol.

His award doesn't prove he is a great full back but it does suggest strongly that anyone is a much better player without a mass crowd groaning, moaning and hurling abuse very time they get near the ball. I suspect it also means that his team-mates at Bournemouth knew how much he was wounded by his Charlton experience.

    Good luck to him.

  • When a 9 yr old boy says its a good job you can throw the ball because you cant kick it or head it

You know your shit and he was shit you cant polish a turd

    Woeful footballer for us
  • To be fair to Francis he has been one of our most consistent players this year

As I remembered from my Southend days he has still got an excellent delivery both on left and right foot.

There are the odd occasions in a game where his touch is poor for no reason so if he was low on confidence I could see this happening more regularly.

It will be interesting to see how it gets on in the championship next season.

Looking forward to going back to the valley next season one of my favourite grounds.
  • Padding to feet - poor
    Throw ins - good
    Crossing - average
Turning circle - more than an a380
Pace - never saw him try to use it

  • Spoke to someone a few years back who was managed by Parky and played with Francis and he said that Francis was all about confidence and would always be asking how did I do and what did you reckon to his fellow players......
He also said that Parky was a top man but didn't have the people skills to know how to deal with players that were left out
  • Well done to him
  • Was ashamed of how our fans behaved towards him. Not the best player but certainly not as bad as people are making out - his confidence was destroyed at Charlton and I'm glad he has got his career back on track.
Never understood the logic of attacking your own players as it won't make them play better. It only hacks me off when players don't try but this couldn't be levelled at Francis.
  • Fair play to him. He wasn't a bad signing for the money (about a month's wages for Semedo?). Had a good game at Spurs and I'm not surprised he's done well at Bournemouth which seems to be a really well managed club and a nice place to play. All about confidence with him.
  • He had one game where he showed he could play well all others were pony.
  • Half the problem for Francis was that he joined us unfit and did not get a proper pre season, he then got shoved into the team before he was ready. As is the way with our fans he got slated from the off and lost what little confidence he had and never recovered. It was also a big step up for him moving to Charlton. In the end he did not recover and this culminated in the abject performance v Preston (I think) where even I could have done better. Also did npot help that he was a Parkinson selection and every one was looking to slate anyone associated with Parkie.
  • Pretty amazing to think that we had this guy as our first choice right back ahead of both Chris Solly (the best player Charlton have had in years) and Carl Jenkinson (now playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world in the Champions League).

Reminds me of myself! Poor lad.
