I think Brandy the 5 foot 6 striker from Man United would be a better bet imo, however, cons are he would want big wages, wouldn't want to drop 2 leagues and has never lived outside Manchester, but pros are he needs a club, we need a short, pacy striker, he has played at Gills so has been down here, and has played all the way up to England u20's so far
I tell you what, my nephew was telling me about this cracking player called Andrew Walker - he said he's mustard. Apparently came through the ranks at Macclesfield and was signed by Manchester Utd when he was 16. He's now banging goals in for fun for Man Utd's reserve team - he showed me his stats - scored 47 goals in reserve competitions so far in just over one season. I think if we can somehow get Chapple scouting in parallel universes, where Football Manager is 'real life', he might be one for Parky to consider.
Stern John - no thanks. Luke Varney - yep, think he could do a decent job at League 1 level. No way would we pay 230k or whatever it was for a 30 yr old Benson. If we spend that on anyone, which we won't, it would have to be someone young with potential with a resale value of at least what we paid which Benson wouldn't have.
I see this as a similar situation to the prospect of Lisbie returning. I'd love to see him back, just as I'd love to have seen Lisbie come back. Both players are fast, can open up defences and create chances. The goalscoring is questionable, but Varney has proved in the past that he can score regularly and we saw it in patches in his last spell with us. I think he'd be a different player in a winning team where he'd gain confidence.

But the pressure would be on him to turn us into a winning team, and that's the problem. I remember Danny Mills commenting that Luke was potentially an extremely good player but added that he he would need to find mental toughness in front of goal and he wasn't sure that it would happen. If Luke had found it, even with his injury problems, he wouldn't be in the position he now finds himself. It would be a gamble for us, but maybe we're due one that pays off.
We WILL definatley be signing a striker before the deadline, whether it will be Varney who knows. He's the style of striker we need, but since he left Crewe he really has gone backwards each season, is he really what we want?

What I dont undestand is why Warnock would take a risk on a player who has failed at Championship level. Maybe he sees him as his new Ambrose challenge
Warnock wanted Johnaton Walters from Ipswich, and there linked with Jason Roberts too, and Varney is the back up to them.
We'll get a striker, I'm just not convinced Varney will ever be the same player he was at Crewe or in the first few months with us, and will be an expensive risk
If we got the Varney who was almost unplayable against Blackpool at the Valley, I'd be pleased.
Unfortunately, that game and his couple of goals against Palace were the highlights of a disappointing time with us.
Am I the only one who is disturbed that Parky has enquired after "30 or 40" strikers? Hats off to the club for putting the work in, but 30 or 40? There was me thinking that they carefully selected from half a dozen or so individuals who just might have the necessary attributes and personality to gel into our existing set-up and tactical options.....I scored a few goals in the school playground once - am starting to feel a bit left out )

It all depends on what search filter you have set, on FM2010.
i would rather hear about how they have looked at 30 or 40 than 3 or 4, as what happens if those 4 are kandol, stern john, me and torres? I may be 6 2 but i have pace to burn, and can run the 100m in sub 12 seconds ;) seriously though we need to get them in before saturday, whoever they are, so they can gain match time in the jpt and learn ppl's names and such. I dont want benson or varney, but que sera sera
I guess it's a sign of where we are now. Back in the Prem days I doubt there'd have been 30-40 (affordable) strikers in the entire WORLD who would've been good enough for us but now apparently there is :.o( :.o(

After the game cough stated that varney will be going on loan to free up cash
Bristol today look to have signed 2 strikers
Warnock was on radio yesterday saying he wanted a striker to play off the big man and he wanted a winger
We have said the same
There is an element of truth in it mate but to which club I know where my money would go
I hadn't heard of him till the post above
That might be the same for Pp
When does school start again?
In teresting stuff...

Also that we enquired about "30 or 40" strikers over the summer.
so he hasn't a clue who he really wants ;-)
When you buy a house how many do you look at? : - )
Actually, Large ........ I think it's us who don't have a clue who he wants!

Note to Parky, kill the thread around the 4/5 comments mark please to save time and worry. :)
on sky sports news it says bolton will loan him out again.
