  • [cite]Posted By: D_F_T[/cite]You're lucky, it's all bad news!

Linky worked, cant see the bad news anywhere! ;-)
  • Welcome news if true.
  • If we do sign Rooney, er, I mean Mooney...

Will all our effing fans get behind the lad from Day One please?

If we are to have any chance this season we ALL need to get behind Parky, Mooney, Llera and whoever else may pull on OUR Charlton shirt... please!
  • Could not agree more Red, Mooney or hoever is wearing the shirt lets suport them no more negativity.........please!
  • As I've said before, I liked Mooney. Didn't think he was a world beater, but thought he had a bit about him and was definitely our second best striker last season so deserved to start as many games as he did, on that basis. I'd be willing to take a punt on him for another season to see if he'll improve with some regular games (and perhaps working with this new strength guru we have as a fitness coach).

My question would be, though, how well would he fit into a squad with Bauza (if we signed him too)? From the descriptions of Bauza it seems like they're quite similar (Bauza probably the better player). If that's the case should we carrying like for like forwards in our sqaud or trying to build options into it (Bauza/Mooney the link man, Akpo the target man + a poacher and someone with pace)?
  • That Sky story was posted yesterday. Are we going to have another 20 posts today saying that he is worth signing, and another 20 post saying he's useless?!
  • hat -trick at Shrewsbury - locked on.

Well it looks like Huddersfield may pip us for his signature then.

Perhaps we will see how good he really is next season in League One playing for Huddersfield, not us!
  • if he did sign for us I would be chucked out within 20 minutes for having a barnie with the Mooney haters. Thick feckers

Huddesfield have just signed Joe Garner on six months loan from Forest so may not be interested in Mooney now.
  • Thanks for that good news, Large !

I'm with you Red5 & northstandsteve. Nothing else makes sense.
  • [cite]Posted By: Fanny Fanackapan[/cite]Thanks for that good news, Large !

not from my viewpoint it isn't

Haha! Stubborn, grumpy old men! Charlton wouldn't be the same without them! :-)
  • Wonder what our chances are of getting Freddie Eastwood? (see rumours thread)
He'd be the 20goal striker we need for promotion and Akpo, Mooney, Bauza and Eastwood would be an improvement on last season.
  • The thing is, it's mainly our illiterate millwallesque chav inbreds who don't probably don't know how to use a computer who love to BOOOOOO and give stick at every given opportunity, and seem to (despite being CAFC 'fans') WANT people like Mooney to make a mistake (even tho they put in a shift unlike certain others). So they won't even be reading any of this.

I agree with Steve - ain't gonna be pleasant if he signs - a great signing, but I'm just going to end up rowing with one of these imbeciles.

If he signs and gets a couple of goals immediately, hopefully he can get a bit of confidence and kick on, cos sometimes that's all it takes, as we are a fickle lot. Look at his standing ovation and chanting when he went off against Swindon.

I think he seems like he has the oldschool Charlton attitude, and the more players we get like that the better. Rather than Prima Donnas like Hasselbaink, Thomas, and to a lesser extent, Burton.
  • [cite]Posted By: boggzy[/cite]. Look at his standing ovation and chanting when he went off against Swindon.

I think calling it a standing ovation is a bit OTT. About his only half decent performance too. Plus a number were clapping because he was going off !!

Large has set his stall out with Mooney ......and even if Mooney scored 20 goals for us this season, and created 20 assists. in Large's eyes he'd still be USELESS!

    :o)

that's not true Oggy. If he improves his game that dramatically then I'd be chuffed and would give him the credit he would be due. At the moment though, in my eyes, he is USELESS and I can't see where such a dramatic change would come from.
  • Can Mooney do a job at right back?

  • Wow, this debate is going the distance - we are really split aren't we?

... and he hasn't even signed as yet, it's all ifs and buts at the moment.

Imagine if he does sign. Wowee, there could well be a mass brall in the Noth/West stand quadrants in only a few weeks time!

I agree with all the comments regarding booing and I would never boo a Charlton player and I hope that if Mooney signs he doesn't get booed.
That doesn't alter my view and the view of many, many that he is a very poor footballer with many faults and not many pluses.
His main fault is that he is lightweight and gets nudged off the ball far too easily, a defenders dream in fact. That won't change unless he toughthens up and to be honest he doesn't look the type that will ever be tough enough.

I really hope we don't sign him, I think he will be booed mercilessly the first time he misses a chance or gets knocked off the ball by a strong defender.
He doesn't deserve to get booed because I think he does genuinely try his best but he isn't what we are looking for and Parkinson could regret signing him as, unless Mooney defies all the odds and plays well he will unsettle the crowd.
  • It is interesting that all these brilliant, fabulous players that people 'rate', like Mooney and many others before him, and that we must sign etc and yet we are still stuck in Division Three.

Mooney had his chance last year and didn't deliver.

He didn't hide (bar Millwall away where he and other shat emselves) but just did have it.

Hopefully our crack team of scouts will do their jobs and unearth someone else like Akpo.

Bang on. Cant knock his effort, he just isnt very good.

seems we all know what the problem with Mooney is but why couldn't Parkinson and the coaching staff see it

they have a decent weights room at Sparrows Lane (or used to at least - maybe the equipment has been sold off as part of the cuts) so why wasn't he made to do a two hour session in there three afternoons a week after training last season?

He's not going to get us outta this league unless people want to be mid-table??

I don't *do* mid-table in Division Three thanks.

or the team could play the ball to feet and into space and play to the strengths of players like Mooney... lumping the ball down the pitch is cack FACTAMONDO.

Most centres backs in League One will deal with the hoofed ball up field all too easily. Only Burton had the capacity to deal with that which is why he got batterd all season and eventually injured.

Don't think it's so easy to create a player that can hold the ball up, or else every striker would just get pumped up. As Red sed our game could do with a bit less long ball, when we don't have the players to suit it. When Forster was used up on his own it was embarassing to see him isolated with a bunch of balls flying over his head

They probably did see it, but we didn't have loads of options.

How do we know he didn't work on his strength? If it was that simple, wouldn't every lightweight player do just that?
  • he was too busy posing for the Match Programme as Peter Pan.
