  • [cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]Looking at the respective run-ins, yep I am.

Swindon have the goals in them and have probably timed their "up" form just at the right time.
Perhaps but Leeds were expected to have won the league by now, anything could happen.
  • [cite]Posted By: PL54[/cite]A few questions please as not been there before:

How far is ground from train station ?
    Which station is best ?
    What's the pub situation ?
    etc

This answers your first 2 questions
  • im sure we have sold out, after two battling wins.

There must be a better pub in the whole of Southampton than the ground !!!!
  • Nope, no other pubs worth going to...(!)
  • best place to drink is the town centre about 10 mins walk from the ground, loads of decent pubs to choose from.
  • [cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]I think if they beat us on Saturday they stand an excellent chance of getting into the playoffs.

    Millwall, Leeds, Charlton, Southampton. Fun!

I cant see Huddersfield dropping that many games to let them in TBH if they win tonight they are 9 points clear of them

I Think we have the toughest run in and potentially could lose the most points out of the playoff teams, Sthmpton,Narwich,Colchester,Leeds not exactly easy,

we are currently 17 points above them if they win their game in hand they will be 14 behind us with only 18 points to play for

If anyone is going to slip back into the play off zone i think it is colchester

Nice, I assume it's the usual selection of Wetherspoons, O'Neils etc that litter every town in the UK (sorry still suffering from commercialisaiotn overload after our trip to MK) !

becareful if anyone going here on saturday thinks that there will not be a nasty edge to this game you are mistaken, a fair bit of recent history between us and be on your awares

  • Yes your right they are all pub chains but they are spacious, cheap and have sky sports.
I think it will be trouble free in the town centre before the game, after the game is another matter, saying that even then I think it will be ok.
  • Bedford Place is best place to drink in Southampton. 10 minute walk from Southampton Central station, 20 minutes from ground. No chain pubs, more than enough places to keep you happy before and after the game. Mixture of nice locals pubs and lounge bar type places for the trendier types. Think it's in the student district - not been heaving with football supporters when I've been there in the past, very little chance of finding any trouble there.
  • Realistically Saints can only catch Huddersfield to make the play offs. If Saints win all their remaining games they'll have 78 points meaning Huddersfield need to win 4 and draw 2 of their games. Huddersfields run in is:

    H Oldham
    A Brentford
    H Walsall
    H Millwall
    A Stockport
    H Colchester
    A Exeter City
  • There is no way Saints will make the play-offs. It's just a bit unfortunate that they still have a tiny glimmer of hope to cling to - would have been nice to face them when they'd just realised that they've got nothing left to play for this season.

Southampton is a decent place to drink of a night. 2 big uni's, so plenty of students....easy to just mix into the crowd. Really looking forward to this.....especially if we can keep Lambert & Lallana quiet, then we have a chance.

    What about Puncheon and Barnard?

good players, but im just highlighting their main two. Lets not make Southampton out to be a better side than they are.

I actually think Southampton are one of the best two sides in this division (with Norwich). Saturday will be a really tough game, but if we want automatic promotion we wont get it without getting points in tough games.

The league position and results would suggest otherwise. In fact, it would suggest that we are better than them (even with the 10 points added on).
  • Agree that they are one of the better sides, but they are still a League One outfit. I look at going to Southampton the same as say, away to Swindon. We got to believe we can get something from the game, and if we play well defensively then i think we have every chance.

The same Southampton that are 7 points worse off than us, than at the start of the season
  • only worse off, in my opinion, because if you start off the season on -10 it is psychological. It's tough when you are at the bottom as it is but if you are on minus points for quite a few games you must be thinking that we won again and yet we still havn't hit zero. Without that deduction they would be right up amongst it at the top. However, there is no way they will make the play-offs this season with the limited number of games left. Ten or twelve left then maybe, just six - no way.
  • [cite]Posted By: Ru1986[/cite]I just find it hard to take that any league can have Swindon Town in second place

Swindon have played in the Prem before.

I really think if they hadn’t had that 10-point deduction they’d be up the top with Norwich with the likes of Schneiderlin, Lambert, Barnard & Lallana all very good players. I think to still be in with a chance of the playoff’s is a great effort after starting on minus 10 – which I would imagine has a bigger impact than simply taking 10 points off a team. They must have a quality manager !
  • I agree - Southampton are probably amongst the best 4 sides in the division.
  • If it wasnt for that deduction they'd be right up there and as much as i hate Pardew, he's done a very good job to get them close to a play-off place. Obviously he's got the money at his disposal but he's spent well and they would be my tip to win League One next year. As for Saturday, it's gonna be a tough one. Pardew said last week that it's a big game and he expects a big turn out which he'll get. He'll desperately want to get one over on us and dont be surprised if they're all over us in the first 10/15 minutes. If we can get through that then there's no reason why we cant get at a point and maybe even three...
  • I think were going to get the 3 points on Saturday. Last season when we was awful we turned them over in front of a sell out crowd. The season before we turned them over with 10 men for 65-70 minutes. So nothings impossible. COYR

How come he spent so well at Southampton, but was totally clueless at Charlton?

Perhaps he has a better No2 these days?

    ;o)

Maybe... cant remember who his No2 was here to be honest....

Be interesting to see a comparison since January when they signed Barnard, Fonte, Puncheon, plus a couple of others. We also started the season with a lot of players who were with us last year. Saints had a lot of new signings who needed time to bed in (as their first 5-6 games proved).
Over the season they obviously have less points than us, but apart from Norwich i'd say they're currently the 2nd best team in this league.
