Waghorn signs

  • The bottom line (my new fave saying) is that when a club decide to make a player available for loan, the player is touted about. In most cases, if the player has two workable legs then he will have a choice of clubs who will take him on and ist down to him , his agent and his club to mutually decide what is best for him.

As you can imagine, i don't think we are at the top of too many people's lists at the moment.

[cite]Posted By: nigel w[/cite]What he said was 'a couple of experienced players who can do a job, one of them defintely a striker' ... rightly or wrongly, a lot of people on this board though he meant Helguson and the Hermanator.

We are definitely not getting what the billing implied - but that said I still hope the inexperienced Waghorn astounds us all!

So you assumed it was Helguson and when it MAY not be him you are not getting what was implied.

Come on Nigel that is like me saying I assumed it was Rooney but he hasn't come so I've been lied to. But I haven't been lied to I just inferred something that wasn't implied.

Big big assumptions Nigel. Firstly that is was Helguson or Herman based on no evidence at all and secondly that one of the three possible loans will not be another striker.

One thing I will predict is that some people on here will be disappointed/uninspired solely because some people are setting their expectations way too high. I can't see a huge queue of players desperate to leave the prem to come to us and I can't see that we have huge pots of money to tempt their clubs to release them.

At the end of the day the bottom line is that AFKA is correct. It's not rocket science but at least he and I are singing from the same hymn sheet ; - )
  • Henry,

you have ended up restating my very point which you started out disputing. Like you , I can't see a huge queue of players desperate to come to us when we are having one of those seasons... Not sure what it is that we are disagreeing over!

I thought your point was that you had been lied to.
  • Where on earth did I say that?

I said QPR look like they are getting Helguson and we get a young lad with a nice smile who has never socred a senior goal. I then joked 'just one of those seasons, eh?''

You then came in saying it was all about money...

Yes, we were told we were after an experienced strker. We couldn't get one. That doesn't make anyone a liar , does it? Certainly not in my book.

Alistair Campbell was once famously called 'the most pointlessly argumentative man in Britain''. Sometimes it seems that Charlton Lifers can top him on an almost daily basis!

    No we can't ;-)
  • When you said "Whatever, we are not getting what the billing implied"

And I didn't say it was all about money. I suggested that that might be one factor in a loan that hasn't even happened yet.

And I always infer that when someone switches from argueing the point to attacking me that's because I've won the argument. : - )

Yes, but what point are we arguing? I don't see one - that's why it''s being pointlessly argumentative. Which you say is an attack on you and therefore proves you've won the (non-existant) argument!!!

It's all a bit Alice in Wonderland for me. I'm off to live, love, laugh and be happy...

Meanwhile, you might care to look at the thread about Helguson started by Large.
  • Enjoy and have a look at the date on the other thread.

No doubt! Really? and if he does what will that prove?

Club with more money that us signs a player we may or may not have wanted on loan shock.

    See I could be a journalist ; - )
  • Henners, just read your post, sorry for not responding, i've not been on since. I need time and a big screen, neither of which i have now, give me a chance and i'll either dig something up or apologise, fair enough?

Suze - i'd like to say that Pele, Maradonna and Croanaldo are good players but as i've not seen them doing cones and flags i'll not venture any opinions.

BDV - i'm in the same place as you on almost all points. Maybe we're both going radio?

Finally on the West Ham thing, Pardew did drop Tevez and mascherano, both of whom are consistent performers in ECL semi final teams and in the best 10 or so in their position in the world. He was running a relegation bound side. I've defended the man but people who are denying these facts are just not worth debating with, there'll always be any answer, made up or fantasy. You do our corner more harm than good with this stuff.

Going to stick my head on the block here. I reckon Pardew will be gone by this time next week.

Where do i pick up my prize?

Reception... Are you pleased you were correct or will you admit that you are just relieved?
  • Anyone who thinks McLeod, or even Dickson, should be playing ahead of Waghorn is mad.
  • Back to Sunderland now though most likely as that was his last game...typical !
  • Thought we had signed for another two months with him. Have I got it wrong?
  • Just been told his loan has been extended
  • Parky in last nights interview says loan deal runs out today but he'll most likely be with us 'til after xmas.

  • This is what I put when we signed him (Page 2)

I'm actually very happy with this - not a "Billy big spuds" that will upset the applecart - and a bit of an unknown quantity.

I watched him in the Youth cup last year and he destroyed us - fantastic touch, VERY strong and a great eye for goal. I expect to get ripped into for this but am willing to go on record as saying he reminds me of a young Wayne Rooney

He may not be a household name but he is a bloody excellent footballer and I, for one, am pleased.

You'll only hear good stuff about him from Sunderland..

I rest my case. He looked lively, keen, aggressive and took his goal nicely.
Linked well with Gray and, dare I say it, reminded me a little of Rooney
  • Looked good but lets not go mad, had the ball not taken a defelection, theres no way it would have gone in.

One game doesn't make Wagstaff a world beater, any more than one game makes McLeod or Dickson rubbish.

    WTF?

It was going in from what I saw on TV

I agree one game doesnt make the man - but he excited me last night

No but I've seen enough of McLeod to see he isn't good enough at this level.

Waghorn is a much more all round player, even if he doesn't have quite as much pace as McLeod.

Can't judge Dickson properly until we see him start a few games, but I'm not sure he ever will.
